SEPTI-GORE Zine Issue 5, 6 & 7

Release date: 2005

Review:
Ok, I totally slacked in the zine review department so now I have 3 Septi-Gore to cover, I'll just do them all at once... So this zine is still going strong, this is just great work, I've rarely seen someone so dedicated to put out new issues as quickly as Erik...

SEPTI-GORE Zine Issue 3 & 4

Release date: 2005

Review:
Thought I'd review the 2 latest issues of this fine zine all at once... Erik & his Septi-Gore Zine continue to explore the most obscure corner of the controversial underground gore/grind world, issues keep getting better and better... First, issue #3 comes with a color cover/cool new logo and features pretty in-depth interviews with bands like Terrorism, Bowel Stew, MDK and labels Kinetic Sleaze, Fecal Matter Discorporated, etc... A bunch of no-bullshit, straight to the point reviews are also thrown into the mix; the whole zine is pretty much 100 percent pure goregrind/noise/sleaze... I also really dig the sick movie reviews (Rigor Mortis, Murder Set-Pieces...)
Issue #3 drops the color cover but bulks up with 48 pages instead of 30! This is a pretty heavy tome and much heavier in contents than previous issues! More in depth reviews, plenty of interviews with a skilful job of mixing well known bands like Haemorrhage, Lymphatic Phlegm, LDoH and more obscure outfits you've probably never heard of like Gangrene, Anatomically Incorrect CrackWhore, Grindustry, Acrotomophilia, Nunriders of Black Doom, Anus Tumor... Probably the highlight of the issue is an interesting interview with Bill of Last House on the Right, who usually is a pretty elusive guy so it's nice to hear more about his label and occupations... What else to say?! This is probably the best Sept-Gore I've had to pleasure to read so far...This is pretty much the most active and awesomest zine about Goregrind right now so get with the program and get these issues right away!

BORN DEAD Issue 7

Release date: 2005

Review:
This is the seventh issue for this fine canadian zine, edited by Mike Alexander (of the band Putrescence); small format, top notch content... You've got things like a detailed, hour by hour journal of Mike's experience at Maryland Deathfest 2005, a really insightful and fun interview with Bile, a bunch of quick/sharp reviews on various grind/brutal metal records and finally a few smart-ass articles about various "societal issues"... Ok, I gotta admit some of these articles like the ones about canadian politics kind of went over my head! Still I strongly recommend this new Born Dead issue, if you're looking for something both clever AND about grind (it's really not that common!), this should do!

SEPTI-GORE Zine Issue 2

Release date: September 2005

Review:
This guy Erik is no slacker and keeps the issues coming like there's no tomorrow!!! This is issue number 2 of Septi-Gore hot on the heels of issue number 1 and issue 3 shouldn't be far behind... More than 30 pages filled with pure underground goregrind goodness, many awesome inties with the likes of Devoured Flesh Regurgitation, Frightmare, Embryonic Cryptopathia, I Shit on your Face, Anal Probe Android & Bowel Fetus... Of course there's also a bunch of really obscure, sick goregrind/music/gore flick short-and-to-the-point reviews to sink your teeth into as wall as a Exhumed/Abcess live report... Simply a great read! Certainly one of the best printed goregrind zines in activity so don't hesitate checking this out...

SEPTI-GORE Zine Issue 1

Release date: Summer 2005

Review:
Behold the first issue of Septi-Gore, killer new zine from United States! As it says on the cover, it's totally dedicated to goregrind, deathgrind, noisecore & sickness... This is the work of a longtime fan of this type of stuff... This is typical quick, photocopied, black & white zine, but all quite well done with a bunch of very nice grind & gore movie reviews... The meat of this tome however are the interviews with Oxidised Razor, Blue Holocaust (seems like I'm infesting just about every zine out there!), Autophagia, Faeces Eruption, Granulocytic Blastoma, Gruesome Toilet, Anuus Altaar/Fantasmi Di Sodoma & Diseased Maggotectomy... Pretty much essential reading for all self-respecting underground goregrind freaks! The guy behind this zine is pretty hard-working as a second is already on the way!!!

NUCLEAR ABOMINATIONS Rag Issue 2

Release date: 2005

Review:
Ok, first, this thing is looks terrific... The layout here is just superb, a definite throwback at old school death metal zines with old flyers and cool death metal art adorning every pages, simply amazing! Content-wise, well this zine seems to have been years in the making because some of the news are a little outdated and alot of the material reviewed dates back back to the 1999-2002 period... But, it's all good because Death Metal & Goregrind are basicly the only styles covered here and even though the editor is italian, he has an excellent grasp of the english language, his reviews are always really well-written and fully descriptive. The interviews in this zine are also very insightful... The interviewer is often pretty obsessive about details, especially on his Dead interview, and as a result you're getting a hell of a lot of information out of this stuff... You'll also find interviews with Demilish, Hideous Mangleus, Kaamos, Nuclear Death... Again, the choice of interviews shows how much the editor is turning himself towards the past... So if old school is your thing, definitely get your hands on this zine. It's also a perfect exemple of how every zine should be done! This is very close to a pro-done magazine, though for once the content is also worth it! This is made by the guy behind Nuclear Abominations Records (remember the great General Surgery demo ep's) and the italian Buio Omega shop... This is some fine work and a definite must-have!

DIS-ORGAN-IZED Issue #3

Release date: 2005

Review:
Alright, if you're looking for a paper zine all about goregrind, Dis-organ-ized is definitely one of the better ones. These guys don't skimp on content, you've got tons of news, reviews and interviews with Blue Holocaust (me!), Last Days of Humanity, Faeces Eruption, Oxidized Razor, Agathocles, Plasma, Abosranie Bogom, Fistfuck, Intestinal Disgorge, Autophagia & even film maker Andrea Schnaas! Layout is OK, could be better but this baby is nearly 100 percent sick goregrind and definitely one of the major zines in activity right now for me... So it obviously comes highly recommended!

BORN DEAD Issue Number 6

Release date: 2005

Review:
Here's another issue of this canadian zine... Once again I'm writing a review about this one long time after the fact since it came out in January... Anyhow... This isn't your typical grind zine... Well, actually it's pretty typical in that it's got the usual brutal band inties and record reviews but what I mean is that on the other hand it's also extremely well-written... The grindy content is intersected with various articles, reports or movie reviews that almost read like short novels; You'll find majorly weird things like something called "Differing Assumptions: Human Rights Activists and Conflict Resolution Specialists Within the Framework of Peace Building" on one page and then a review of the Smothered Brothers/Purulent Spermcanal Split Ep on another(!). Anyway, it seems only 2 bands got interviewed for this issue, but still they're two really good ones, namely General Surgery and Cerebral Turbulency... And the focus of the reviews is grind/death/crust/obscure metal all the way... So, that's about it, a pretty short zine but some really top notch content...

MENTAL FUNERAL #5 - Zine

Release date: 2004

Review:
Sick Flicks and Brutal Music... That about sums it up! This is definitely one of the finest zines around these days. The pages are filled with obscure stuff you probably never heard of... On the musical side, it covers all kinds of things from noise/power electronics to totally underground metal and grind... It features interviews with In Memorium, Viscera, Black Leather Jesus, Inhalant , Archon Satani, Deinonychus, Throneum, Grunt... and even a pretty embarassing one with... me! It's got a shitload of reviews too, again covering various genres of the sleazy/underground variety... Mental Funeral is also quite heavily focused on movies, with tons of awesome film reviews, mostly dealing with exploitation, horror & even old/classic porn! One of the highlights of this issue is an interview with Enzo G. Castellari, cult director of Keoma, High Crime, The Big Racket, Bronx Warriors, Last Shark, etc... All in all, a really killer issue, highly recommended!

BORN DEAD Issue Number 5

Release date: 2004

Review:
I've been slacking around a bit too long with my reviews so it seems like Born Dead #6 is already out by now... So I'm kind of lagging and this issue might be a little outdated... Anyhow, I'll just say this is a really well-written zine... The Born Dead editor is actually also vocalist in Putrescence & Head Hits Conrete (that's the guy I interviewed here) and the main attraction here is a really detailed and insightful Heads Hits Concrete Us tour diary... Quite a fascinating read, touring in the Us does sound like a bumpy road... You'll find a colorful Putrescence gig report in there as well... Interviews concentrate on canadian bands that were then to appear on Arsonfest 2004 (Malefaction, The City Champs, Kursk, etc...) and you've also got a bunch of reviews in the last few pages, mostly grind... Real cool stuff then, pretty short but extremely good... Clever writing style, infinitely more literate than your average grind fanzine... Available for something like 2$...

BRINGER OF GORE Issue 1 - Zine

Release date: 2004

Review:
Very nice zine, great musical taste, a strictly goregrind and grindcore focus, no filler, 100 percent great juicy content... It contains interviews with Lymphatic Phlegm, General Surgery, Putrid Pile, Fondlecorpse... A shitload of insightful reviews. It's only like 30 pages long but still a fantastic read from start to finish, no time to get bored... I think this one is available for free or maybe only a few bucks just to cover postage! Recommended!

THRONE OF TORMENT #4

Release date: 2004

Review:
This is the first english-written issue of this italian zine... The two main editors here have somewhat different musical tastes, one of them is leaning towards death & grind stuff and the other one is more into the black metal side of things... The zine ends up as a mixing of genres... This issue is pretty thick, abounding more than 80 pages, so there's a decent amount of interesting stuff to be found throughout. I was more interested in the grindy bulk of the zine obviously... So, let me see... The noteworthy parts are probably the interviews with Gruesome Stuff Relish, Oxidized Razor, Harmony Dies & Leng Tch'e... There are also alot of reviews which are all very detailed, a fair share of it is grind shit too... Just a solid zine with a lot of work put into it...

GOAT GRIND #2 - Zine (French Language)

Release date: 2004

Review:
I should probably write this review in french because well, this zine is strictly french-friendly... But I'll keep this short and just say this is great stuff, cool inties with Agathocles, Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, Inhumate, Pustulated, Infected Pussy, Yapapeno... Lots of grind & death reviews... Cool stuff for frenchies only!
