SOILENT
GREEN "A
Deleted Symphony for the Beaten Down" Cd |

| (Relapse Records) Release date: 2001 ![]() Review: Soilent Green is fairly constant
in their style, they just keep it up with their
intricate, touched and menacing metal. So, if you heard
them before, I bet you already have an idea what this
album sounds like. Mostly a comprise of hardcore, death
metal, grind and Pantera-like powermetal. "A Delted
Symphony for the Beaten Down" is still a dreadful
strike of rancorous vocals, rampant guitars and unbridled
drumming, with an overall special musical sensitivity. I
acknowledge their musical greatness, their songs are
really damn well-written, clever and all... The sound
production behind it totally rules, but for some reason
Soilent Green music just slips out of my ears. I can
never totally get into it although I truly realise this
album is a truly fine piece of bent, corrosive metal. I'm
just more attracted to simpler music, but it's just
personal. If you're a Soilent Green fan or a Relapse
bands (Coalesce, Dillinger, Benmb...) fan, I doubt this
new album will disappoint you. I honestly prefer this new
album over "Sewn Mouth Secrets" which I thought
was a little frustrating after a couple repeated
listenings. As usual, the cd art-work is not a let down
either, it looks really awesome, the cover unfolds like a
big square shaped poster, (like for the Agoraphobic
Nosebleed/Converge Split Cd), the artwork is just
stunning... Pretty tasty new blood for metalmongers then.

Release date: 1998 ![]() Review: This Soilent Green album is a
pretty good surprise. Although I must admit this isn't my
favorite kind of music. It's hardcore mixed with a little
grind and other stuffs, or mostly just aggressive but
complex metal. It is indeed intense and hateful. Fastness
isn't the biggest factor here, but reasonable enough to
make it sound kinda grindy at times... It fits right with
other bands from Relapse catalog, say Benmb & co.
It's just very acid, pissed off metal. I thought it had
some Pantera influences as well, especially the vocals
which are close to the Phil Anselmo type. Personally I
think this type of vocals is really hard to digest. Also,
note that Brian Patton from EyeHateGod is on guitars...
So expect a little sludge in the mix as well. The sound
production is very clear, but my opinion is that their
previous mcd "A string of lies" got a more
adequat slightly rawer sound. Anyway, it's a Relapse
release, so expect highest quality in artwork, booklet
and everything else... With the nasty lyrics printed this
time around... www.relapse.com Tracks: 1)It Was Just An Accident 2)So Hatred 3)Build Fear 4)Looking Through Nails 5)Breed In Weakness 6)Cold-Steel Kiss 7)Openless 8)Her Unsober Ways 9)Sewn Mouth Secrets 10)Walk A Year In My Mind 11)Gagged Whore 12)Emptiness Found 13)Sticks and Stones |

Release date: 1997 ![]() Review: 3 tracks of excellent grinding hardcore/metal, typically american. Soilent Green is aggressive and fast, still their songs are quite long and totally metal oriented. Thick guitar sound, swift drumming and bitter vocals... I especially like the sound production on this one Ep which is a slightly rawer/less metal-sounding than the following releases. Tracks: 1)Sewn mouth secrets 2)Cat with nine claws 3)Felt nothing |
