Review:
"Putrefactive and Cadaverous
Odes about Necroticism" is the first Pathologist album after
the release of a few demos, where the band developped a very morbid
kind of noisecore ("Sexual Cadaveric Mysophilia" 1990 demo
& "Medical Jurisprudence" 1991 demo respectively containing
385 tracks in 45 minutes & 974 tracks in 30 minutes!), they then
turned into more structured gory grind-death with the 92 demo "Forensic
Medicine and Pathology"(9 tracks) and kept it the very same way
on this album. Cyklo's vocals are honestly some of the sickest I ever
heard: guttural, gurgling, splattering, putrid, raw... something really
stomach turning, but in the end maybe not aggressive and hateful enough...
The music itself is vying with early Carcass elegant and visceral
complex death-gore-grind style. The musicianship and technicity are
decent and skilful, all the songs have a morbid and sick feeling through
them, but apart from some quite catchy songs ("Progression of
putrefaction part II" or "Carcass dismemberment"...),
in the lump, the album is not abusively powerful... The muddy sound
production is not helpful, and even the compositions, which are maybe
to complex loose the force and impulse recquired to make a good grind-death
album! Anyway this album is a MUST HAVE for any goregrind freaks,
the lyrics are masterpieces of pathological art, as well as the cover
(I rarely saw a so beautiful and artistic anatomical collage of cadaverous
body parts!).
