"Black
seeds of vengeance" (Relapse Records) Release date: 2000 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Review: Saw this band on stage not so
long ago, in my area, with Cryptopsy, Enslaved &
Vader and I liked their set quite a lot, they were the
only good band this night with Cryptopsy (god live
Cryptopsy is wicked violent! and... god I didn't know
Vader was sooo boring, anyway I couldn't headbang anymore
after I broke my neck during Cryptopsy). First thing I
wanna say about Nile, they're just the best death metal
band around since a long time, they embody Morbid Angel
and Massacre at their best. Their atmospheric interlude
parts are not lame, they're actually original and very
scary at times. And when it comes to grinding death, Nile
knows how to tear the place apart, with their heavy and
technical internal-organs-ripping riffs and their
blasting drums of immortal doom. Some parts are even
truly epic and haunting, like the final chorus of "Black
seeds of vengeance"... It seems they digged Iron
Maiden "Powerslave" concept alot back then, and
they always keep it up with the egyptician curse concept.
If you like your death metal very brutal and scary, with
a huge sound production, and a few contrasting original
atmospheric parts... Nile's for you. This is definitely
one of this year's biggest death metal event for me. |

the catacombs of Nephren-Ka" (Relapse Records) Release date: 1998 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Review: The new Brutal death sensation! I
have heard so much good compliments about this band that
i had to check it out myself. So for whose who have not listen to this band yet, this is Brutal fucking Death dealing with egyptian mythology. So musically it 's like INCANTATION 's style but they had some interludes to get you in the ancient times mood, you know: tribal stuff, sacrilegious atmospheres and sacrificial screams. It makes me think of stuff like Conan the barbarian, not the usual pussy romantic shit that you can find in the black metal trend! There is even some keyboards parts (rare...) but it doesn 't sound gay. Sure it is brutal like a ancient tyrant god slaughtering legions of mumified warriors! Again great artwork (Relapse, of course...), so let you be transported into an age of metal and magik. note: 3/5 (5/5 if you don' t mind the keyboards, but I do!) |
