MACABRE "Sinister slaughter" Cd

  (Nuclear Blast Records)
Release date: 1992

Review: This band is awesome and "Sinister Slaughter" is a cult record to me. Totally crazy! A shitload of fucking tight heavy death/grind songs, played with their twisted personal touch. Great humour, and serial killer concept, each song is about a different mass murderer celebrity! The Beatles cover art is excellent. "Nighstalker", "The Ted Bundy song", "Zodiac", "Vampire of Dusseldorf" etc... All these songs are hits; Heavy and catchy all the way through, sometimes very grindy, although midpaced mostly. They have a clear and brutal metal sound, the drums have a crushing tight sound, and make an outrageous use of double bass, guitar riffing is shredding, partly fast and technical, with amazing solis, partly damn extreme, thrashing and heavy! Vocals are insane! with many variations, you'll find sick low pitched grunts and weirdo high pitched bitch screams (which probably inspired Gut or Mucupurulent, later on). There's an acoustic song called "Mary Bell", real funny, mostly because of the lyrics. It's just crazy stuff. Fantastic, kickass technical death/grind album and insane dark humour... A masterpiece to me!

Tracks: 1)Night stalker 2)The Ted Bundy song 3)Sniper in the sky 4)Montreal massacre 5)Zodiac 6)What the hell did you do? 7)The Boston strangler 8)Mary Bell 9)Killing spree 10)Is it soup yet? 11)White Hen decapitator 12)Howard Unrah 13)Gacy's lot 14)There was a man who blew up a plane 15)Vampire of Dusseldorf 16)Shotgun Peterson 17)What's that smell 18)Edmond Kemper had a horrible temper 19)What the heck Rochard Speck; Eight nurses you wrecked! 20)Albert Fish was worse than any fish in the sea

MAGGOTS "Zombies from tha Hood" Cd

  (Bloodshed Records)
Release date: 2001
Running time: 19:54

Review: Pretty neat production, thick heavy brutal death metal with some sort of grindy straightforward approach. I wanna cite Hideous Mangleus, Blood & Anal Blast for references. So, song structures and guitar riffs are more of the death metal kind to me, but it's still very basic, intense and catchy, drumming is mostly pounding and blasting with touches of groove and typical metal stuff, the vocals are of course growly, truly deep and guttural, with backing high screams. It's pretty standard death/grind, but it's pretty damn good, very controlled, not totally insane or whatever, but still alot of fun. Songs are pretty well-structured, with alot of rythmic changes, sometimes fast and sometimes slower but it never lets down, it's definitely enticing and really catchy. The running time is not very long, but long enough anyway, it keeps it from boring, and songs are interesting enough not to worry about it. 7 original songs and a short Cunt Catheter cover version. Nice cover artwork/design and clear sound production. I'm sure alot of you guys don't know Maggots (Holland) yet, so if you're after some new blood, well-rounded heavy death/grind, that's clearly the one to go with!

Tracks: 1)Maltreat your enemy 2)Six sick tricks 3)Kill qsuad inferno 4)Ghoul nation 5)Trendy till death 6)Gangband zombies 7)The puss patrol 8)Swallow my cum (Cunt Catheter)

MALIGNANT TUMOUR/SQUASH BOWELS Split Cd

(Obscene Productions - OBP 022)
Release date: 2003
Running time:
55:59

Review:
This one is something of a goregrind classic... It's actually the third re-edition of this split cd, it's got new packaging artwork; I'm the one responsible for the front collage art by the way, except the Squash Bowels logo which was added later... I'm not sure it's such a great cover, but heh, here you go... The cover pictures from the 2 previous editions of the cd are also available inside, they weren't that great anyway, so I don't feel too bad for making this new one... Music-wise we first have Malignant Tumour at the peak of their goregrind career, awesome basic grind songs with a slight crust vibe, some really repulsive gurgling growls... All the songs are really memorable and catchy, just some of the most infectious goregrind ever written. I remember listening to this all the time back when it was first released. The crust aspect, reinforced with covers of some of the most crusty Agathocles songs clearly indicated the things to come from this band (their conversation to mincecore!)
Squash Bowels on their side plays some of the best, most visceral goregrind ever... Harshly gurgled growls, primal shrieking, mean, boisterous guitar riffs and fast smashing drumming all collide together, creating some of the most breath-taking, stormy slabs of goregrind ever recorded! So, yeah if it wasn't already clear, this split cd rules my world!
Now, sorry to say this but I find the bonus tracks on this new split cd unnecessary and unwelcome because they clash with the rest of the material... These are new tracks by present day Malignant Tumour & Squash Bowels which have both gone through drastic line-up/style changes! I appreciate the effort to provide something new but I'd rather have liked to see this split release remain unchanged. Still, this is an absolute must-have especially for those who don't even have the original versions...

Tracks: Malignant Tumour: 1)Maggots in your flesh(D.I. cover) 2)Epiphlitis 3)Acute haemorrhhagical necrosis of pancreas 4)Subacute endocarditis 5)Decubitus 6)Mors praenatalis 7)Pephigus vulgaris 8)Disease of oral cavities 9)No use.. hatred(AG cover) 10)Pertussis 11)Diphteria 12)Idiopathic colitis ulcerosa 13)Mucormycosis of gastrointestinal tract 14)Parasitical cysts 15)Dysenteria bacillaris 16)Embryopathia 17)Purulent attack 18)Reason to hate 19)Necrotic urocystitis with ammoniacal fermentation 20)Putrefaction decomposition 21)Impetigo contagiosa 22)Intravascular diseminated coagulate 23)Ingrowing of the alien things in the body 24)Pulmonary collapse 25)Go fucking nihilist(AG cover) 26)Waterhouse - Friderichsen syndrome

MAN IS THE BASTARD "D.I.Y.C.D." Cd

(Slap a Ham)
Release date: 1993

Review: Here is a more than 70 minutes running cd... from the north american band, MAN IS THE BASTARD, (aka CHARRED REMAINS). This album is a compilation of many eps. MITB style is hard to explain, but I'd define it as tenacious, slow moving hardcore, with a few speedings from time to time; as it's often at a slow tempo, it probably can be connected to sludgecore, but I'm not sure of that, because I don't precisely know what sludgecore is. Vocals are ranging from low hardcore vocals to high pitched screams. Also, several tracks are not played with instruments; they are experimental computerized sound/noise... This album can be hard to listen for an untrained ear, but I think the result is interesting. There's a huge black & white booklet, with all the artwork of their eps, some lyrics etc... A characteristic of MITB, is their love for short, simple messages; like: "Read more books", "Support the re-introduction of hemp", "Vegetarian ethic for health and humanity", "Music... is not an industry! .....". Kinda funny! Worth checking out.

Tracks: 1)Eunuch 2)No concern for the inhuman 3)The arena 4)Refuse to thrive 5)Existence decay 6)Secret surgery 7)Attempt to damage 8)Smile trick 9)Telegram death threat 10)Once upon a... 11)Shoes of cement 12)(Tony Williams)Strifetime 13)H.S.M.P. 14)Ether rag 15)Stocks 16)Blood gutter 17)Heretics fork 18)Koro treatment 19)Justive is swift (Jack) 20)Poacher 21)Trapped within burning machinery/Pain of the iron 22)Steak eating boss 23)Lobotomize a cop 24)Fine feathered friend 25)Scavengers world 26)Regression to birth 27)Mocha rebirth 28)Semen in the eyesocket of Thomas Lenz 29)Slave to the bean 30)The iron room 31)Incoming 32)Volatile cocktail 33)Tumult being 34)Abundance of guns 35)Suttee 36)Grasp the bug 37)Human condition 38)Mary Jane(the ultimate girl) 39)Oil bomb 40)S.O.I.G. 41)Work to death 42)Instantly bent 43)Screwdriver in the urethra of Thomas Lenz 44)Snake aprtment 45)Walkers of the streets 46)Doll 47)Media prophet 48)Slay or slander 49)Squaw 50)Flying limbs 51)Tomb ride 52)Mr. Wilson 53)Lime doom

MASTIC SCUM "Zero" Cd

  (Noise Variations)
Running time: 39:45
Release date: 1999

Review: This is the new Mastic Scum full length album, and this is pretty damn good. They haven't change their sound very much, but you maybe can find more midpaced rock rythms and small experimental parts than before. Don't worry the entire record still baths in strong grindy groove and downright raw violence. With quite fast and catchy crusty drum work mixed with grind blasts. Their approach of grindcore remind me of bands like Groinchurn, Nasum and also Brutal Truth... The use of weird computerized noises on "L.O.W." or "Exhumed" especially reminds me of Brutal Truth for the noise tracks on "Need to control". Well, to come back to this records, Mastic Scum always compose fucking catchy songs there, well dosed between kickass fluid grind-death frenzy in Terroizer vein, with bigger groovy parts and breaks, crusty punch and a powerful death metal sound. Yeah the sound production is very good! And, midpaced or fast be sure each song is a painful kick in the ass! They always have total control of the songs. Lyrics are about social or personal subjects, and not necessarily the stereotypical grind-crust lyrics! Well, these texts are not unforgettable really... But I'll shut up about this, coz I personally have hard time writing down good lyrics for my musical projects... Anyway the vocals are really powerful, with leading mid-low-pitched roars helped by a few more screamy backing voices. To get the idea, lyrics & vocals also remind me the spirit of the bands I evoked in this review (Brutal Truth, Nasum, Groinchurn...). The cover design is okay, full colour, but I think they could manage to do better than that. Probably the best band I know from Austria, so check this out! Out on Noise Variation, available for DM 23 (Germany) and DM25/$17 (worldwide), the address is below...

Tracks: 1)Inhume 2)Filthkick 3)I need a spliff 4)Demand the change 5)Overdose 6)L.O.W. 7)Deaf, dumb & blind 8)Emotive synergy 9)Blood effusion 10)Arouse suspicion 11)Kill the mute 12)What in the world!? 13)Lust for life 14)Deep shit 15)Fuck authority 16)Suckass 17)Exhume

MDK "Splatterguts" Cd

(Vomit Noise - VNP 008)
Release date:
2005

Running time: 36:43

Review:
Here's a full album for this brasilian band into sick, fucked up death/grind! This is animalistic, heavy kind of stuff... Quite sloppy and dissonant overall, with rugged bass lines on the forefront, some pretty chaotic drumming, sick shrieks and bestial, pig growls... Songs are really apocalyptic, just ruminating, ugly and messy with vocals adding a grotesque splattery flavor to the whole thing; I'd compare this to Intense Hammer Rage and Flesh Grinder. Sound quality is pretty clear despite the band playing in such a trashy, detuned fashion... Personally I couldn't totally get into it, but hardcore fans of truly underground, noisy gore/death/grind might get a kick out of it! Pretty cool & twisted art & layout, this is a pro-printed cd with complete lyrics and everything... Pretty sick!

Track list: 1)Serial killer of dead cadavers 2)O anatomista 3)Splatterguts 4)Ritos macabros 5)Crimes Satanicos 6)C.D.S.H. 7)Carcinofobia 8)Eviscerated 9)Aneurisma 10)Corpos dilacerados 11)Morbido banquete de carne humana 12)Perverse knife 13)Barao Samedi 14)Suffocating 15)Sick freaks doing fucks

MY MINDS MINE "48 Reasons to Leave This Planet" Cd

(Selfmadegod Records - SMG 008)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 41:53

Review:
More re-released material/cd compilations? Well yeah... This time dutch band My Minds Mine is getting the discographical treatment. This is all junk from their vinyl releases, I already knew some of these releases, but definitely not all of them... so anyway I think it's pretty cool to have it all on cd here. This band plays raw and pissed off, shredding grindcore, speed-crazed with incisive treble-heavy guitars, distorted bass, insanely fast, grinding drumming and really piercing shrieking/roaring vocals. This is really chaotic and intense stuff, almost non-stop blasting and screaming with just a few welcome touches of groove and rythm to sometimes let the songs breathe a little. The sound quality varies from release to release, mostly it sounds pretty solid and heavy, but almost always very saturated at the same time, don't expect some kind of refined sound production anyway; after a 40 minutes listen of this stuff, I'm pretty sure I lost a good bunch of my brain cells! This cd also contains some live recordings which sound quite crude but also listenable. You'll also find noteworthy SxOxB & Heresy cover versions... Personally My Minds Mine reminds me of Siege, Enemy Soil, Abstain and a few other bands of this kind... The cd layout is a collage of band pictures, and live show flyers... Definitely recommended if you're in an intense grindcore mood or if you've missed on this band's vinyl releases...
