OPENWOUND/ANTIGAMA Split Cd

(Antiself Productions - AS002CD)
Release date: 2004

Running time: 32:06

Openwound Review:
Highly energic australian grindcore already from a few years back (1998/2000), this band used to have a future ex-The Kill member in it. It's just really awesome shit, hard-striking grind with aggressive, thrashing guitars, very screamy vocals, some backing growls... and song structures strictly designed to kick your ass. Though it's also mixed with a few clearer passages and great deal of groove too. Well, this cd actually contains all the tracks from the recently released full 7" Ep that I already reviewed here so just check it out for more details... There are also 4 bonus tracks taken from their split 7" Ep w/ Captain Cleanoff and those sound just as killer.
Antigama Review: This polish band gives us 5 rehearsal-style songs and 1 song recorded live. Sound is solid enough but obviously on the rawer and harsher side of things. I'm not really sure how to describe Antigama, they're definitely making their own brand of aggressive, extreme metal... Some of the riffs exude a thrashing industrial/progressive vibe at times but everything always comes back to grind territories eventually... Some spiteful midrange shrieking vocals... Also in there is a pretty neat Repulsion cover. Anyway, this is quite raw sounding material, perhaps more destined to people already acquainted with the band...

Tracks: Openwound: 1)More Than Entertainment 2)Terminal Response 3)Vision Impaired 4)Foolish Leech 5)Social rape 6)Granny/Yadda 7)Mr. Dirks 8)No Works 9)Internal Torture 10)A Minor Cancer 11)Strangle Hold 12)To Murder a Soul 13)Sunshine 14)Corrupt Destiny 15)Skinned Open 16)Your Fiction 17)Falling From the Peak of Sanity
Antigama: 1)Stupid Fuck 2)Flies (In My Head) 3)Who's My Enemy? 4)Radiation Sickness (Repulsion Cover) 5)Spare Some Change (alternate version) 6)Savoir-Vivre Mastas (Live)

THE KILL Mcd

(Asusila Records - Asusila002)
Release date: 2004 (originally 2000)
Running time: 8:44

Review:
This is the first The Kill demo re-issued on cd. Just intense, no bullshit, straight to the point, punishing grindcore the way it's supposed to sound and definitely one of the best demos I've heard in recent years. This fucker is insanely fast, with super tight, breathtaking drum-blasts, raw, blistering guitar noise where you can barely make out riffs, raging high screams... Just unbelievably wild and infectious kind of stuff. One of the most successful attempt at recreating that special early Napalm Death-style grindcore energy in my opinion. A modern grindcore classic!

Tracks: 1)This one hurts 2)We want blood 3)The clash 4)Junkies records 5)Fasion victim 6)Lets be fast 7)Techno head 8)Media loves misery 9)Stupid pants 10)Extreme wankers 11)Oh My God

TOXIC BONKERS "Seeds of Cruelty" Cd

(Selfmadegod Records - SMG 012)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 31:53

Review: Toxic Bonkers (Poland) churns out 11 tracks of corrosive metal here, I wouldn't really describe this as grindcore, because their stuff feels much more anchored in thrash/death metal and crust/hardcore than anything else... It really reminds me of Sepultura (from "Chaos AD", especially the vocals) mixed with a slight touch of late SxOxB ("Vicious World") & Napalm Death (around "Fear, Emptiness, Despair"), of course I'm not saying they sound exactly like all of these bands, they're just reminiscent... Song-writing is pretty accomplished, offering some well-rounded, memorable tracks, solid and thrashing riffs, tight drumming (often mid-paced but not without some very effective crusty speeding ups) and some gutsy, burly shouted vocals (it's quite low pitched but not growling), pretty direct and concise lyrics in a 'socially aware' vein (again Sepultura springs to mind). Songs also bear traces of groove at times, and the whole album is a cool listen, if you're into their style. Song production is quite strong, just nice and clean. Apparently this band is around since 1993, I think they toured with Dead Infection lately, and well that's all for the random facts... To conclude, well just check this band out if you feel like it...

Tracks: 1)Seeds of Cruelty 2)Homeless 3)Tv God 4)Wrong Way Direction 5)Weep 6)Poisned 7)Can You See 8)Free World 9)Liars 10)Don't Be Afraid 11)Vision

ENGORGED/GRUESOME STUFF RELISH Split 12" LP

(Last House on the Right Records - HAUS004)
Release date: 2004

Review:
A match made in hell! Both bands made up of maniacs bred with horror movies, thrashing and grinding their way through this piece of vinyl! The Lp kicks off with 5 Engorged tracks, first is a short and fast grinder of a song, kind of an opener to the rest of this side which then turns into heavier, thrashing goodness, material simply in continuity to Engorged latest cd... Growling and shrieking vocals (and a levelheaded use of piquant pitch-shifted effects), incisive guitars, some blunt drumming... The band doesn't fail to deliver their usual cinephilic touch with each song dealing with a different segment from George Romero's classic anthology horror flick "Creepshow". Anyways, I'd say this is a really nice appetizer for their upcoming cd! Just bring it on!
Spanish goregrind attack on side B! 2 original tracks and a Dead Infection cover ("After Accident" my favorite track off "Surgical Disembowelment"). What can I say? Gruesome Stuff Relish yet again delivers some really solid and delightfully heavy material... Beautiful grinding simplicity, crushing midtempos, sneering shrieks, gurgling pitch-shifted growls and downtuned, raw guitar riffs that make me feel all warm inside... Always a pleasure to listen to. Ok, this split's also been released on cd, but the Lp has the awesome giant sized Dennis Dread art going for it, you can't beat that...

Tracks: Engorged: 1)Father's Day 2)The Lonesome death of Jordy Verrill 3)Something to Tide You Over 4)The Crate 5)They're Creeping Up on You
Gruesome Stuff Relish: 1)The Plague 2)Gomia 3)After Accident (Dead Infection)

DEAD "You'll Never Know Pleasure... Until You've Tasted Pain" 12" LP Picture Disc

(Autopsy Stench Records)
Release date: 2003 (Originally released in 1995)

Review:
I never reviewed this album before so this picture disc version of it is a nice opportunity to rectify my terrible mistake. All I can say is that in my eyes "You'll Never Know... Until It You've Tasted Pain" is something of a masterpiece... Musically, this is grueling death metal with a real edge and slight touches of grind and splattery gore... Song writing is about perfect, I'd say it sounds like a rougher and groovier version of Carcass era "Symphonies of Sickness" mixed with some Pungent Stench perhaps. The band churns out some really compelling songs filled with neat inventive arrangements, really memorable riffs and catchy rhythms. The guitars are downtuned to a gut-wrenching level, and that's where lies the band's strength and specialness I think... drumming is also another really strong point; grinding, midpaced and heavy doublebass parts are nicely blended together and all solidly delivered making the songs slide along just great. You'll also find lots of slick vocal trade-offs from savage growls to Carcass-like raspy shrieking, midrange grunts and various other gurgling counterpoints... The band exudes an air of genuine perversity, some really putrid, negative vibes, as if Gut wasn't enough to prove german bands are undefeatable champions when it comes to nasty mean-spirited porn... The two G.G. Allin cover songs definitely feel right at home on this Lp although these are still cleaner and tighter renditions of the originals... Some really sick shit for sure and a real classic too in my opinion... The sole fact of watching this picture disc spinning is fascinating anyway...

Tracks: Pleasure Side: 1)Rectal Punishment 2)Receive my Golden Shower 3)Penicide 4)You'll Never Know Pleasure... 5)Highest Power (G. G. Allin) 6)XXL Cunt 7)Delicious Taste of Vaginal Excrements
Pain Side: 1)Body Fluids are my Favourite Fetish 2)Slaves to Abysmal Perversity 3)Thrusted to the Limit of all Delights 4)Journey to Extasy 5)Die when you Die (G.G. Allin) 6)Skin Deep Between her Tighs 7)Cheating Flesh (unreleased track, live in Leipzig '91)

MEATSLICER "All Will Be Revealed" 7" Ep

Release date: 2004

Review:
This is an enjoyable piece of basic death/grind with some pretty catchy songs, a nice, prominent, eerie bass sound, thrashy guitars, pounding electronic drums, really deep guttural vocals (and also some backing screaming at times). Songs are often quite brief, and sometimes they just seem to end abruptly but this stuff still has some nice hooks... I'd say it's somewhat similar to Mortician (especially vocal-wise) but with a slightly different approach to this style. It also reminds me of Agathocles for some reason, but again nothing identical to Agathocles, just bits and parts... the ep feels really short at 45 rpm but it left a pretty good impression on me I think, so I hope I can hear more from this one, this definitely got me interested. Red vinyl, and a cool looking booklet containing lyrics and comic book type art... A nice effort.

Tracks: Side A: 1)Slipping on the Guts 2)Face Fuk the Amputee 3)Freezer Burnt Fetus
Side B: 4)Toecutter 5)Forced Face First 6)Into a Meatslicer 7)Worm Dripping Flesh

OXIDISED RAZOR/AUTOPHAGIA Cd

(2004, Deus Mortus Productions - DMP-005)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 26:38

Oxidised Razor Review:
Here's a very cool goregrind band out of Mexico! Some deliciously over the top tunes, mostly catchy midtempos, thrashing riffs, and a few messy grinding assaults kicking in every now and then. Vocals are totally distorted pitch-shifted growls, I just love this stuff! Oxidised Razor feels like a cross between old Last Days of Humanity and Gut but with a sharper thrashing edge to it... The sound is actually pretty clean, for a goregrind band and this stuff is just great fun. There are movie samples introducing every song, mostly horror movie dialogue in spanish language but occasionally some dirty audio excerpts off some porn flick too. The band also performs a Purulent Spermcanal cover version, which makes sense now that I think about it, definite similarities between the 2 of them... Overall pretty enjoyable stuff...
Autophagia Review: This is brutal straightforward goregrind from Greece and it slays and grinds too! As usual this is pure old-fashioned stuff in the early Regurgitate/Dead Infection/Malignant Tumour tradition, but I'm hearing more influences by Rot and Rotting Flesh on this one especially on the grotesque growling vocals, this vocal style is almost dominant on this one. Besides the vocals, you've got in-your-face grind riffs, nasty dual gurgling/growling vocals, crushing, assertive drum assaults, all of this spewed forth by one only man! The cover seems to be a nod to Regurgitate "Effortless Regurgitation..." original cover, it just looks so similar... Pretty nice and sick split release then... Goregrind addicts only...

MP3: Autophagia "Slow Down and Throw your Bowels Out"

Tracks: Oxidised Razor : 1)John Wayne Gacy 2)Craneal Crash 3)Shotting Mucous from Intestinal Haemorrhage 4)Incest Party (Purulent Spermcanal) 5)Estrangulada, violada y Mutilada 6)Sangre en tus Ojos
Autophagia: 7)Intro 8)Fear of Tumor 9)Slow Down and Throw your Bowels Out 10)Inside your Larynx... my Fingers 11)Never Vomit in my Mouth 12)Symptom of Anagula 13)Human Flesh Regurgitation 14)Anal Dread Stench (cover Gore Beyond Necropsy) 15)Phymatiosis Diagnosis 16)Enterorrhagia 17)Stomach full with Excrements 18)Members Cutted to Pieces 19)Enema Urethra 20)Trapped into the Depths of Scatology

NOISECORE FREAK "My Mother the Anarchist" Mcd

(Deadsix Communication)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 16:18

Review:
Another release composed of remastered older material (1998-1999) from this one man canadian grind act Noisecore Freak ... I'd describe this as grim, intense industrial grind, with a kind of confusing schizophrenic feel, lots of tempo changes and nightmarish repetitive blasting rhythms... Some really blistering throaty vocals, distorted riffing... everything's mixed with eerie samples and sound textures that help convey an even more oppressive feel... just really dense and overwhelming type of stuff that messes with your brain...

Tracks: 1)Razorgrin 2)Discussing Bowels and Raw Punk 3)Ajax 4)Creep Asylum 5)Utter Confusion and Disorder 6)Scarecrow Domination 7)Rusted Playground 8)Toybox Snuff 9)Cobweb Doom 10)Sitting frantic in a Dark Cellar 11)Tickling Time-Bomb Psychiatry 12)Funky Junk House 13)Murder Collage

FILTH/GENERAL SURGERY Split 7" Ep

(Bones Brigade Records - BB020)
Release date: 2004

Filth Review:
I'll make this snappy... 5 new tracks of nice and ripping, heavy australian grindrock, totally in Blood Duster/late Clotted Symmetric Sexual Organ vein. Crushing and pounding grind parts mixed with vicious groove and thick catchy riffs. The vocals range from out of whack high screams to low roaring voices and growling... The band's usual weird sense of humor is still there... And that's about it, just very nice stuff here.
General Surgery Review: I'm catching up with the General Surgery's recent releases I missed and I'm loving it... this side contains 4 songs in G.S. own good old raging grindgore/death metal style... Some splattery dual low growl/vicious snarling shriek assaults, scathing drumming, blistering speed, way heavy guitar riffs that feel just like a sharp scalpel cutting through your flesh, and a slight touch of twisted melody... All the right elements are combined, making General Surgery one of the tightest bands around still. A pretty cool cover layout, lyrics printed directly on the inner sleeve, a gorgeous red and black splatter vinyl... all things considered, this is a really top notch split Ep we have here...

Tracks: Filth: 1)Klismaphiliac 2)Dodi-Di-Die 3)Linkin Shminkin' 4)When Gerbils Cry 5)Reek of Cootiefaction
General Surgery: 1)Unruly Dissection Marathon 2)Scalpel Infestation 3)Fully Mechanised Corpse Thresher 4)The League of Extraordinary Grave Robbers

OXIDISED RAZOR "...Carne ...Sangre" Cd

(Obliteration Records - ORCD 039)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
44:26 (a long period of silence during the last track though)

Review:
A Zombi 2 sample as opening intro is always effective! Anyway, this is killer mexican goregrind, simple, direct... A lot of it is pretty groovy or thrashing midtempo stuff, kind of a tighter version of Gut, the rest is just sheer ferocity more in the lines of Last Days of Humanity... Blasting speed, shredding infamous pitch-shifted gurgling/squealing vocals, some really basic but at the same time quite sharp guitar riffing which further makes Oxidised Razor totally fitting as a band name! The song structures are a bit chaotic, all the parts don't always really mesh well together, but still, it doesn't make each individual part any less killer... Just ultra catchy and savage goregrind. You can really hear the band's mixed influences too, some of the songs even made me think of a goryfied Extreme Noise Terror! And you've also got some well executed Napalm Death & Necrony covers... Sound production is also pretty nice and clean for the genre... Cover art is a collage/juxtaposition of porn and real life carnage... To sum up, this is dirty, ugly, messy and thrashing goregrind and I think I like it quite a bit...

Tracks: 1)Pus excretor 2)F.H.I. 3)The Chainsaw 4)...Sangre... 5)Deceived (Napalm Death) 6)Human Decay 7)Hidrocefalo Esofagico 8)Night stalker (R.R.) 9)...Carne... 10)Masticator of Swollen Carcass (Necrony) 11)Anal Carnage

PLASMA/RADIKALIS AMPUTACIO/SPERM SWAM 3 Way Split Cd

(Rottenpyosis)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 41:17

Plasma Review: This split cd features 3 really slimy and obscure porn/grind and overall I'd say it's all pretty entertaining for the genre... Starting with german sickos Plasma who does a decent job at emulating Gut/Cock and Ball Torture-style porngrind. Songs are creeping their way up with sleazy midtempo beats, blurry guitar riffs and repulsive spewing and belching pitch-shifted vocals... Some short intros spoken in german... Sometimes songs tend get a little too long and dull at times, it lacks a little punch and excitement but overall this stuff is nicely crafte. Sound quality is raw and muddy but sufficiently clear to enjoy.
Radikalis Amputacio Review: This is blasting grind/death from Hungary, they got one of these great obscure and raw sound that reminds me of early Squash Bowels. Pretty incisive and basic grind riffs, some messy but hard-striking drumming, grotesque growling à la Jaro/Dead Infection with occasionally some nice pitch-shifted effects. There's also a death metal vibe to it that reminds me of Blood... Definitely the best band on this split as far as I'm concerned, just pretty nice stuff... Songs titles are in hungarian, couldn't tell what they're about, but it's probably some pretty sordid shit too...
Spermswamp Review: This one is drum machine electronic porngrind... Just stuff that sounds alot like Microphallus, Meatshits or Libido Airbag but not exactly as good... Messy songs, porn movie samples or stupid fart sounds mixed inside the songs, sick gurgling vocal effects, electronic blastbeats, no real instruments used just a virtual bass sound... Hard to get into this shit. Anyway, goes without saying but this cd's for sleazy porngrinders only.

Tracks: Plasma: 1)Northpolar Sperminferno 2)Ovulation Overlord 3)Nitroglycerin Assfuck (Sphincter Megablast) 4)Testicle Tremor 5)Assmunching Terrorpussy 6)Clitoral Katoi Cumfuck
Radikalis Amputacio: 7)Belfereg 8)Zombik Tamadasa 9)Edd a Meleg Szart! 10)BMX Banditak 11)Harom Napos Vizihulla 12)Szarkoma 13)A Masiniszta Bevarrt Segge
Spermswamp: 17)Wet Nightmare 18)Oversized Anal Canal 19)Angelic Smegma Eruption 20)Diahhoeic Polka 21)Spermsoaked Stream of Rectal Dejections 22)Pre-natal Sex 23)Vaginal Cheesecake 24)Harry the Happy Pedo-Clown

PELAGRA/C.V.I./ROTTEN PENETRATION/DISSECTED Split Cdr

Release date: 2004
Running time: 37:29

Review: Pelagra: Blasting raw and chaotic drum machine gory grind/noise/death... Short songs, thumping downtuned guitar riffs, sickening deep growls, somewhat heavy but oversaturating sound... Songs seem mostly improvised. The last tracks are way more muddy, but I almost prefer that sound... Anyway, that's about it... just really sick noise from Brasil.
C.V.I.: More nasty brasilian noise to rape your senses on this side. Raw, brutish sound, scary and really pissed off animalistic growling and gurgling pitch-shifted vocals, sloppy and dissonant guitar noise... Songs are all pretty confusing and repetitive in an almost nightmarish way. Lots of humorous or tasteless intros... All pretty fucking messed up.
Rotten Penetration: Slightly more structured stuff here... Weird Porn/Grind/Death with a cool distorted bass sound, really funny gurgling vocals. The lofi sound and the sloppy drumming reminds me of early Gut but the dark and heavy guitar riffs are almost similar to Incantation and Mortician in a way... Perhaps the most enjoyable band on this split for me anyway... Nice songs and a pretty cool obscure sound.
Dissected: I already gave terrible reviews to this greek band's demos in the past. Sounds like they didn't actually improve AT ALL since then. I don't think they actually use real drums, they must be pounding on tables or chairs, I don't know... Their songs consist of dull melodic thrash metal that suddenly bursts into blasting grindnoise, but well it sounds more like blasts on cardboard boxes really... their songs are all basicly the same... The vocals are a pretty awful attempt at mimicking Carcass/Haemorrhage... This band just sounds ultra amateurish... Sorry I never usually really rip on bands but I don't think it's possible to enjoy this stuff even a little bit... Anyway, the rest of this stuff is slightly better, if you're into really obscure grindnoise, this is an ok split cdr...
