AUTOPHAGIA "Postmortam Human Offal" Cd

(Bizarre Leprous Production - BLP051)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 23:03

Review:
Finally here is the full length cd from this greek one-man goregrind act. This album is just pure, basic goregrind in the old Regurgitate/Dead Infection tradition, with cool, typical and memorable, dissonant grind riffs, short, clashing songs, catchy, fast, grinding drumming and sickening pitch-shifted vomit spewing, gore-gurgling vocals... Sound is quite clear but still raw, it is sort of Autophagia's trademark afterall... But in the end it all sounds solid and heavy, all pretty easy to listen to. You can also find a handful of nice cover versions of Filthy Christians, Extreme Noise Terror... Oh and all the drumming is real which is not so common in one-man bands and gives Autophagia a full fledged complete band feel... Anyway, yes this cd is totally great, Autophagia never sounded so excellent, the cd is quite short but the material is quite juicy and meaty grind... Goregrind freaks shouldn't miss this!

Tracks: 1)Intro (Prophecy of gore) 2)Screaming with shit in mouth 3)Dexterous mutilation of pneumothorax 4)Asphyxiated with entrails on his neck 5)Black pus 6)Intro (Hymn of bizarre atrocities) 7)Postmortem human offal 8)Vomit yourself 9)Self disembowelment 10)Liquid puke from the nose 11)Remove the organs through your mouth 12)Genitals on my face 13)Obey to get indepedence (cover Filthy Christians) 14)Intro (Septicemia of deformed remains) 15)Cut my throat 16)Mayhemic abortion of a pregnant carrion 17)Pyuria 18)Laryngas aimorrhagia 19)Congenital tympanum catastrophe 20)Purulent pollution of eczema 21)Miasma cadaver 22)Intestinal massaker from the rectum 23)Asepsiophago thanatosis 24)Anal psoriasis 25)Third world genocide (cover Extreme Noise Terror) 26)Intro (Macabre noise holocaust) 27)Spastic gore grind

INHUMATE "Life" Cd

(Grind Your Soul-GYS004)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 41:34

Review:
French band Inhumate continues its quest in sheer brutality... Simply picking up where their last cd left off. This new material is as strong and intense as ever... These fine people are still playing their own brand of basic, brutal and grinding death metal still with their own distinctive mark which is delivering things with much more positive energy than most other bands. Songs are totally aggressive, blasting and fast but all played in a sort of uplifting manner, which is quite refreshing. Guitar riffs are pretty chunky, heavy of course and thrashing, drumming is very assured and blasting all the way, vocals are still this effective blend of growling and higher pitched vociferations. The plus of this album seems to be a few more deeply guttural (is it pitch-shifting? not really sure...) vocal high-lighting which gives a slightly gorier vibe at times. There are also some other vocal variations like a couple of hardcore-type shouts at one point... The overall result is pretty upbeat but extremely angry at the same time; and well simply a joy to listen to in my opinion... Sound production is all very solid and clear. Bands like Nembrionic or Blood often come to mind, with the grind edge of something like Squash Bowels perhaps... Lyrically, this is all rather light-hearted stuff, just interesting things to read about, often open-minded views and topics pretty rarely dealt with in the genre... The cd ends on cool note which is some very cool live material through which you can further feel the band's true energy. This is yet another excellent release for this one of a kind band...

Tracks: 1)no answer 2)a trip 3)blasted (history of a dive) 4)destiny ? 5)labyrinth 6)I want to kill some..( part 4) 7)sickness is the law 8)sons of earth 9)the fight 10)for lust 11)n.d.s 12)the scorpion 13)thank you 14)rage 15)one day 16)life?

LIBIDO AIRBAG "Miss Melanoma" Mcd

(Autopsy Stench - ASR016)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 14:00

Review:
This is the latest Libido Airbag release and they're still on top of the electronic-grind foodchain, still probably the most effective entry in the genre. Their style is this bizarre hybrid of catchy techno/jungle and Gut-style sleazy porngrind, a totally putrid and gooey sound with a distorted apocalyptic bass rumbling on the forefront, and insane beats ripping through it. Vocals are also very prominent, weird, twisted, stomach-turning grunts, pitch-shifted and oversaturated. Overall, this is really rythmic and catchy stuff, with some occasional blasting and brutal pounding as well. Sound's really sharp... Everything delivered with outrageous mean-spirited humor, with tv/movie samples nicely utilized into the song structures; you've also got some lavish and deranged artwork/packaging, and I'd say this is a done deal... A killer release in my opinion.

Tracks: 1)Hepatitis appetizer 2)Rectal blasthole 3)Ambidextrous amok marathon 4)Schokopforte - feat- the Caviar Cowboys 5)Cumfilled wonderbra 6)Testicle omelette stomper 7)Recycled robocunt

INFANTICIDE "Global Death Sentence" Demo Cdr

Release date: 2004
Running time: 18:51

Review:
For such a fresh new band Infanticide sounds pretty terrific... Sound is clear and powerful, songs are tight, relentlessly fast and grinding, riffs are well thought out, execution is pretty much flawless. The style in question here is wildly energic, blistering grindcore in the vein of Nasum and company... songs are mostly speed-oriented but not without really groovy parts as well as some major crust/hardcore influences... Vocal-wise this is something with angry natural-sounding hardcore-type voices like Nasum/Dismember, at times it's pretty guttural-sounding and at other times it's got more aggressive and tortured screamy accents to it. Yeah, anyway, the swedish sound is definitely there but some of this also made me think of early SxOxB a little bit. This seems to be a pretty young band but musicianship is more than a little tight. Catchy, heavy, blasting, ultrafast is all what this band is... Infanticide obviously comes very recommended, as they simply kick some serious ass.

Tracks: 1)Global death sentence 2)Paint it red 3)Endocrine system septicemia 4)Carpetbombing 5)Terminal eclipse 6)Massive occular pus discharge 7)Krossad 8)Carcinogenic colonoscopy 9)Left to bleed 10)Only a fool

MY MINDS MINE "48 Reasons to Leave This Planet" Cd

(Selfmadegod Records - SMG 008)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 41:53

Review:
More re-released material/cd compilations? Well yeah... This time dutch band My Minds Mine is getting the discographical treatment. This is all junk from their vinyl releases, I already knew some of these releases, but definitely not all of them... so anyway I think it's pretty cool to have it all on cd here. This band plays raw and pissed off, shredding grindcore, speed-crazed with incisive treble-heavy guitars, distorted bass, insanely fast, grinding drumming and really piercing shrieking/roaring vocals. This is really chaotic and intense stuff, almost non-stop blasting and screaming with just a few welcome touches of groove and rythm to sometimes let the songs breathe a little. The sound quality varies from release to release, mostly it sounds pretty solid and heavy, but almost always very saturated at the same time, don't expect some kind of refined sound production anyway; after a 40 minutes listen of this stuff, I'm pretty sure I lost a good bunch of my brain cells! This cd also contains some live recordings which sound quite crude but also listenable. You'll also find noteworthy SxOxB & Heresy cover versions... Personally My Minds Mine reminds me of Siege, Enemy Soil, Abstain and a few other bands of this kind... The cd layout is a collage of band pictures, and live show flyers... Definitely recommended if you're in an intense grindcore mood or if you've missed on this band's vinyl releases...

BATHTUB SHITTER "Fertilizer" 7" Ep

(First Blood Family - FBF No. 2)
Release date:
2004

Review:
Another slab of fine, pounding and mincing grind from these japanese freaks. I thought this whole Ep to be extremely catchy, with direct and straightforward songs, gripping grind riffs, driving rythms, really energic, swift drumming, rugged grunt-roaring growls coupled with B.S. trademark strident, hysterical screams... Exciting blistering grind then, but not without its share of groovy parts as well. The 2 first songs off Side A are blazing fast, the third one starts off mid-paced and thrashy but has a violent grindy finish as well... Side B begins with a killer speed-fueled song that also has a few heavy parts. The next 2 songs are live recordings, some cool raw grind with a lot of mid-paced but catchy, thashing bits. The Ep's closing title song is truly bizarre, composed of a wacky vocal chorus, difficult to describe, there's a short thrash part and then this chorus again and that's it... A weird little song for a weird band. B.S. definitely reminds me of Unholy Grave but they have their own edge of course. They also continue with the fecal subject matter, I'm not sure what's up with that... they're not called Bathtub Shitter for nothing though! The artwork and layout of the Ep is gorgeous as usual too! Top notch japanese grindcore, every self-respecting grindfreak should definitely seek this one out...

Tracks: Side A: 1)Shit and peace 2)Brown love 3)Bathtub shitter
Side B: 4)I cha ko, no cho co 5)ASU (Live) 6)Bathtub shitter (Live) 7)Fertilizer

AUTOPSY "Dead as Fuck" (Live 91-93) Cd

(Necroharmonic Productions - Sleazy 006)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 60:03

Review:
It's safe to say Autopsy always feels good... the songs here are all familiar territory... Killer live versions of mostly early material... Flowing, morbidly melodic, doom-death metal and a heavy, muffled, rotten sound, guaranteed to give you all kinds of warm and fuzzy feelings... Ok, anyway, this cd is quite well put together, it contains live material originally released on vinyl, there's the "Tortured Moans of Agony" double 7" Ep (recordings from 1993), I think tracks are in a different order here though... and there's also the "Live from the Grave" Lp (1991 live recordings)... The recordings have been remastered and it all sounds real nice, Autopsy is always fascinating to listen to and these live takes also give the songs a fresh feel to them. The artwork by Dennis Dread is superb, mixing elements from most Autopsy album covers, there's also a cool booklet, the whole layout is well designed too... Plus I know you're probably asking yourself how can Chris Riefert bark his vocals and pound on his drums at the same time, well just get this and find out...

Tracks: 1)Dead 2)Fiend for blood 3)Twisted mass of burnt decay 4) Death twitch 5)Slaughterday 6)Fleshcrawl - Torn from the womb 7)Charred remains 8)Shit eater 9)Pus rot 10)Gasping for air 11)Severed survival 12)Hole in the head 13)Torn from the womb 14)Fiend for blood 15)Service for a vacant coffin 16)Embalmed 17)Destined to fester 18)Robbing the grave 19)Charred remains

DR. SHRINKER "Grotesque Wedlock" Cd

(Necroharmonic Productions - Sleazy 008)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 68:39

Review:
Necroharmonic exhumes old material by this defunct and pretty much forgotten band... this cd is excellent and a great way re-discover them. This is a collection of Dr. Shrinker's amazing 12 song demo "Wedding the Grotesque" from 1989, a 2 song ep "The Eponym" from 1990 (unreleased at the time?) and the band's debut "Recognition" 1988 demo. This is pure excellence, some really tight, thrashing death metal, in the lines of Repulsion, Death, Autopsy & with a touch of 80's german thrash metal perhaps too... Some really fantastic gems of songs, all memorable, long (no short songs here, just check out the cd's running time) and tightly composed, with killer, heavy and thrashing guitar riffs, dynamic, pounding drumming and pretty unique vocals, a sort of maniacal, high-pitched shriek. This stuff is raging, catchy and fast... Definitely up there with stuff like "Scream Bloody Gore" and "Severed Survival"... The intensity also reminds me of Pestilence on "Consuming Impulse" and early Kreator... Just killer early thrashing death metal. Sound quality for the 12 songs demo is a bit muddy, this is demo material, but still it all sounds clear and damn heavy, it has an old school, gripping sound that's really awesome... The 2 songs from "The Eponym" come with a clearer sound production which makes the band sound amazing too. The 1988 tracks has a rougher sound and the material isn't as well-rounded as the later stuff but it's still quite fun. The lyrics are also really cool and very well-written, they all read like nice and gory little horror stories, sometimes inspired by actual horror movies like Re-animator, Rawhead Rex, Evil Dead, etc... The cd is amazing with a great booklet, killer packaging and layout, a complete lyric sheet, demo covers, show flyers, band pictures, some liner notes from a band member and everything... So yes, Dr. Shrinker is another proof that fine death metal definitely gets better when it ages... Absolutely recommended!

Tracks: 1)Tools of the trade 2)Mesmerization (of a corpse) 3)Fungus 4)Rawhead Rex 5)Cerebral seizure 6)Dead by dawn 7)Open-heart surgery 8)No way to live 9)Pronouned dead 10)Chunk blower 11)Bacterial encroachment 12)Wedding the grotesque 13)Tighten the tourniquet 14)Germ farm 15)The command 16)March of the undead 17)Graphic violence 18)Inverted direction 19)Free at lasssst!!!

DERKETA "Goddess of Death" Cd

(Necroharmonic Productions - Sleazy 005)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 52:23

Review:
This cd is a collection of demo and ep material from late 1980's and early 1990's (plus some 1999 material when Derketa was raised from the dead). This is old and obscure death metal then, mid-paced and with some elements of slow doom, but not without a few raging parts here and there as well... It especially reminds me of early Bolt Thrower but also early Morbid Angel, Autopsy, early Immolation; etc... What however gives Derketa its edge is the fact that it was a death metal band composed of female members... Vocals are killer, quite demonic-sounding female guttural roars which gives the band extra appeal... Musically, this is very effective, grim, sinister and slow-burning death metal with solid thrashing guitar riffs and an overall really morbid atmosphere. This is another well-made cd by Necroharmonic here, with a great booklet containing the very entertaining lyrics, all the demo and ep cover artwork, some band pictures and liner notes with Derketa's biography... All I can say is that this cd left me craving for more, so I'm totally looking forward to new stuff by the recently reformed Derketa...

Tracks: 1)Premature burial 2)The unholy ground 3)Eternal misery 4)Time of awakening 5)Crypts of darkness 6)Begotten son 7)Spirits in the morgue 8)Premature burial 9)Eternal misery 10)Your rotting flesh 11)The unholy ground 12)Time of awakening

DISCIPLES OF MOCKERY "Prelude to Apocalypse" Cd

(Necroharmonic Productions - Sleazy 007)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 53:09

Review:
This is a re-release of material recorded in 1999 with some additional tracks (demo songs perhaps?)... This band struck me as familiar from the get go... I listened to the first few songs and it just screamed Incantation! Plus that guy on the band picture looked familiar too... I checked on the band members and well yeah, Disciples of Mockery is basicly the original Incantation line-up from the classic "Onward to Golgotha" album, minus one member! Musically, this is also in the vein of "Onward..." and "Mortal Throne of Nazarene", perhaps not quite as haunting and as perfectly arranged, but still something pretty deep and gripping like that; Disciples of Mockery is mostly about dark, melodic and fuzzy riffs, very atmospheric type of stuff; sometimes the speed and chaotic vibe can get close to grindcore-type of things but the next minute, you might also be listening to excruciatingly slow-paced, sludgy doom! The band is a mixture of all these things, but it always keeps a coherent death metal sound, all incredibly heavy and down-tuned, and some parts really get under the skin too... The vocals are deep and guttural, a bit too repetitive at times, but most of the time, they just go hand in hand with the music... If you miss the early Incantation sound, or if you're looking for good, infernal atmosphere-type death metal, I don't think you'll regret acquiring this...

Tracks: (10/7-16/'99) 1)Literal upheaval of the earth 2)Our father who art as nothing 3)Prelude to absolution 4)God of love 5)Behold the holy virgin whore 6)An endless pursuit for a satisfying pain 7)Sustained in desolation 8)Desolation 9)Rotting immaculate like you
(9/20/'99) 10)Prelude to absolution 11)An endless pursuit for a satisfying pain 12)Literal upheaval of the earth
