FLAGITIOUS IDIOSYNCRASY IN THE DILAPIDATION Demo #2 & Demo #1 Cdr's

Review: This spanking new grindcore band is not only tight and groovy... It's also played by bad-ass japanese girls! Great heavy guitar riffs with a slight death metal touch to 'em, a warm and full bass sound, some pretty hard-striking drums, quite grabbing rythms, furious vocals between shrill hysterical screams and excellent savage, animalistic low growlings (some of which definitely sound pitch-shifted though I'm not one hundred percent positive)... Songs are very well composed with thrashing parts, blasting parts and heavier parts, all of which quite expertly mingled together. It all flows amazingly well, it's aggressive as hell, there's some definite chemistry going on there and songs have real momentum... plus did I mention hot japanese chicks? Ok, anyway... Sound-wise things are totally loud and clear, I think it reminds me of SxOxB on "What's the Truth?" & "Gate of Doom" and more recent bands like 324, all of this tinted with a delightful touch of gore in early Carcass & General Surgery tradition and obviously an inimitable woman's touch on top on everything... The screaming parts sound a little too 'one-note' sometimes but whatever I totally love them anyway, they sound insane... The first demo sounds slightly muddier than the very neat second one but it's all more than listenable. Overall if you ask me, Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation is one of the most exciting bands I've heard in a while... I'd say musically they're just as talented as a band like Gruesome Stuff Relish for example... So just check them out, you know you want to, I mean... finally an all-female grind band! Methinks they're bound to get signed on a label sooner or later... Check out their website for an impressive live video clip too...

Review: Bathtub Shitter is always a pleasure to listen to... This is the first time I experience them on cd after a long batch of vinyl releases, this release is slight change of pace compared to their earlier release... Their style is still thrashing grindcore with early SxOxB inklings. Ripping guitar riffs, dirty bass sound, wild drumming, raucous growling and demented high-pitched screaming... Though these songs are more into moderately paced thrashing hardcore-oriented things but there's a fair amount of insane noisy grind thrown in there too of course, the overall feel is raw, thrashy and a bit sloppy but still very catchy. As always the band has an eye for slick packaging artwork, the cover looks especially great. Always one of Japan's finest bands in my book!

FUNEROT "Discography Promo 2003" Cdr

Review: This is awesome thrash/death metal, a mix of 1980's thrash metal style riffs with a touch of Engorged's fury and the gory vibe of Impetigo, Autopsy & early Carcass (the vocals often sound like a mixture of Stevo, Chris Riefert & Jeff Walker). Sound's raw as hell, this is really harsh, rehearsal type stuff but you really can feel the band's genuine energy and aggression here, song writing is really consistent and musicianship is quite alright too. In the end, this is gripping, morbid, brutal and basic speed thrash metal that really packs a punch. This cdr contains Ep material + 2 demo's... They're now signed on Razorback Records, which comes as no surprise, the band will feel right at home among the likes of Ghoul & Engorged... Funerot also have a refreshing sense of humor, some silly play on words and a knack for cool visuals, things like horror comic book art... Plus Funerot is a sweet band name and their logo... is such a brilliant looking logo! Check out their website too, I think it looks fantastic... Can't wait to hear more with maybe a clearer sound production... It should be really killer!

GRONIBARD "Satanic Tuning Club" Cd

Review: If you don't know Gronibard yet, they're the french response to Gut, only a whole lot dumber. This is actually probably the best (gore)grind band France has to offer with Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition and they're one of the funniest band ever too. The sound production is really astounding here, crystal clear, crushing and heavy as hell, the material is Gronibard at their best in my opinion, highly effective, basic riffs, smashing drumming, hysterically funny, wacky, kinda girly screams (or even mimicking a barking dog or a meawing cat in the opening song) and gore-drenched pitch-shifted growls... In fact, the vocals are very akin to Gut as is the music, this is just like Gut except much faster, more energic and blasting all the way! Lyrics are total sleaze, stupid porn humor with songs written mostly about sodomy; intros are often funny french dubbed dialogue off a few porn flicks, you're really missing alot if you don't speak french! A high point of this cd is the cover version of Disrupt's "A life's a life", needless to say the anti-vivisection message of the original goes down the drain and they even replaced the intro with... is it french-canadian porn? Not sure... Anyway, good time! I was expecting this cd to also contain the tracks off the "Split Your Guts" split cd but apparently, it doesn't... The unplugged songs in the end are amusing although a little tiring, still overall, this is high quality, awesome goregrind, highly recommended!

SCREAMING AFTERBIRTH "Drunk on Feces" Cd

Review: Ok, this band's style evolved quite a bit since their first cd, it's still primarly extremely brutal death metal in the vein of Devourment, there's more of a slight goregrind influence on this one though. The drumming is very close to early Suffocation material with unrelenting blasting, guitar riffs are very heavy, chunky death metal type stuff but with occasionally some grindcore overtones (Dead Infection) and even crustcore rythms, vocals are sickeningly guttural, gurgling growls. The band seems to experiment with other types of vocals at times too, some weirdo yelling quite similar to Gut at one point, and even some hardcore-type shouting at some other time too... Musicianship is pretty tight overall, some fairly good composition work too, it's an alright album but it's a little plodding at times, just don't expect something truly memorable... Lyrics and content are appropriately tasteless, and there's a bunch of crass porn movie intros used in there too... sound production is fine... I'm not completely hooked on this but on the whole, this is some pretty entertaining death/grind...

RABID "Make them die slowly" Demo Cd-r

Review: This is Rabid's second demo and I think they definitely improved since the first one, what we have here is total early Impetigo/Carcass worship, some very cool gorecore... the drumming is especially excellent, really tight and striking with catchy midtempos often bursting into wild, fast blasting parts very much like Impetigo on "Ultimo Mondo Cannibale", guitar riffs are raw and slightly dissonant, vocals sound just like Stevo's mixed with some early Carcass... Song writing is quite good and basic, with some quite memorable tracks ("Give me my brain back"), and the cheesy horror influenced lyrics definitely make things that much more fun. A great young and promising new band!
