WARSORE "Re-Opened Wound" Cd

(Vomit Noise Productions - VNP002)
Release date: 2003
Running time: 43:14

Review:
This is a cd collection of early material by this pretty famous australian grindcore outfit, containing their "Open Wound" demo, rehearsal tapes and some live recordings; the sound can be pretty rough on some of the tracks but the band always gives a tight, intense performance. Warsore was into very fast, very violent, blasting grindcore with some crust/noise elements too. Very much like early Napalm Death, Agathocles, Fear of God, Unholy Grave... and with an additional touch of brutal crust and some genuine rawness to it. All the songs are bulging with energy, aggression, speed and distortion. Scorching growls, abrasive shrieks, blistering guitars, very prominent bass and some of the most amazing, insanely fast, grinding drumming... All the songs are real short, mostly around 30 seconds and rarely over 1 minute... just pure, undiluted grindcore. The tracks from the "Open Wound" demo are the ones with the better sound quality (still... demo tape quality), raw but heavy, the rest sounds alot cruder, but the band always remains intense and quite fascinating to listen to!

SAYYADINA "Solace Denied" 7" Ep

(Sound of Betrayal/Putrid Filth Conspiracy)
Release date: 2003

Review:
Killer, fast, blistering grindcore... Vocals are mostly hitch-pitched shrieks with clearer hardcore-type accents at times. The drumming is amazingly fast, just really solid, and this ep is almost all blastbeat... Overall, songs are quite basic and straightforward in their structures, really raw, short and violent; guitar riffs are actually pretty melodic but delivered in a blazing, fast way that's really devastating and effective. The sound production by Tomas Skosberg/Sunlight Studios is clean and powerful, obviously, but a whole lot of rawness is preserved, which is essential for this type of band! The comparison with Nasum is inevitable... This is quality, flowing, ultrafast grindcore/hardcore... To put it simply, it kicks ass!

Tracks: 1)Some day 2)Will kill 3)Sort them out 4)Ashes 5)När jag faller 6)Black rose 7)Med livet som insats

DISGORGE "Necrholocaust" Cd

(X-Treem music - XM 002 CD)
Release date: 2003
Running time: 34:14

Review:
Third album by this excellent mexican band... Their style has remained unchanged along the years, they're still unloading blasting brutal death metal with a truly morbid and sickening vibe running through it... The sound production on this album is perhaps the best one they got so far, with a nice and clear, heavy guitar sound, drum blasts coming across really strongly and each undecipherable syllable of their trademark deep, gurgling growls and splattery squeals being perfectly audible. The band sounds really comfortable with their material too, the guitar work is pretty intense in a down-tuned, primitive way, the drumming is most definitely tight, always incredibly fast, and everything is quite expertly delivered... The 3 musicians just butcher their way through their songs with disconcerting ease and... Do I have to go on? Disgorge is just cooler than most brutal death metal bands, that's all! They seem to really feel their music in their guts and this great cd is the loving regurgitation of it all. There are a few atmospheric movie intros here and there, they're used wisely and always set sinister moods quite effectively; I couldn't recognize any of these apart from the Nekromantik bit... Anyway... To sum things up, this is one awesome album, mind-blowing brutal death metal dripping with gore, just the way it should be...

Tracks: 1)Raise the pestilence 2)Sodomic baptism 3)Macabre realms of inhuman bestiality 4)Ravenous funeral carnage 5)Necrholocaust 6)Goremassacre perversity 7)Excremental lust 8)Boiling vomit through my veins

FUCK THE FACTS/SERGEANT SLAUGHTER "Overseas Connection" Split Cd

(Meat 5000 Records)
Release date:
2004

Fuck the Facts Review:
This is quite different from what I have already heard from this canadian band but I haven't heard their latest stuff to say the truth... I'm pretty they used to have a drum machine in the past, but this is definitely real drumming here. Their style is still eccentric and aggressive, but they sound much more metal than before, at least that seems that way to me. I've seen Fuck the Facts labelled as "powerviolence", I guess they play a mix of different extreme genres, mainly taking elements from death metal, grindcore, hardcore, thrash... this stuff is blistering and fast but also pretty damn technical, with quite intricate song structures, expert riffing and some nice arrangements. Vocals are high-pitched shriekings, guitars have a ripping, thrashing sound and drumming is just really tight. The overall sound production is quite good and clear but definitely not what I'd call heavy, it's slightly raw. Also, the guitar riffs often have a depressive & melodic touch to them, I can't completely get into this stuff personally but . Honestly, Fuck the Facts reminds me of Relapse bands like Dillinger Escape Plan & Coalesce...
Sergeant Slaughter Review: This band is an altogether different affair than Fuck the Facts, they're straightforward, basic, groovy grindcore with a touch of brutal death metal maybe. Bestial growling/pig squealing, crushing down-tuned grind riffs, very tight, energic and catchy drumming, all great, fun grind in the vein of Dead Infection & Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition. I think Sergeant Slaughter works better on the groovy mid-paced parts and crusty rythms than on the blastbeats, but overall this is all very solid, heavy, roaring grind, perhaps one of the best current grind band out of France even. You can tell from the song titles and intros that the band is very opiniated but humourous... I thought this stuff was quite refreshing really, worth checking out.

Tracks: Fuck the Facts: 1)Medicated Like A Motherfucker 2)This Means Nothing 3)La Tête Hors De L’eau 4)Born To Kill Live To Thrill 5)Unburden 6)Ventriloquist Complex 7)Second Hand Skin (live) 8)Smokin' A Fatty (live)
Sergeant Slaughter: 9)Watch your tv then stop to live 10)I see trend people everywhere 11)Union de Sous Abrutis 12)Prête moi ton skate pour te casser la tête 13)Xtrem music 4 Xtrem Posers 14)Pitschifter iz gay !!! 15)Bush for butchery 16)Chocoblast (bonus tracks: sergent slaughter + Xtrem music 4 Xtrem Posers [gore] )

SMES "The Good, the Bad & Me" Split Cd

(Black Hole - BHP 009)
Release date:
2004

Review:
Instrument-less cybergrind is an acquired taste, personally I enjoy this stuff alot and I'd say S.M.E.S. is one of the best in the genre, definitely the wackiest too. The sound of this thing is a totally computer-generated guitar-like rumble, with some clear bass lines, pounding/catchy programmed drums and gurgled, pitch-shifted gory growls spewed over everything. It's pretty similar to Libido Airbag, simple and direct like that, only with much more goofy-sounding sound effects mixed in... The main good thing is that the sound has a definite clarity and precision, which make the songs that much more crushing. It's fun, grinding, groovy and often cheesy too. The cd layout and design looks really cool... the computer game-type pixelised picture of Erwin is especially fun, I've seen this band and style dubbed nintendo-grind a few times so this is really fitting. A very cool cd in my book.

Tracks: 1)Ernie's nightmare 2)Pro-zac 3)G-spotted 4)Fruity juice-- 5)Have a sucker 6)When Sgt. Gomp charges 7)Bio-logical 8)saunatorium 9)I'm going out of my duck 10)Gore white face 11)G.I. Joke 12)Po, Mirta, Grind 13)Shower now!

LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY "The Xtc pf Swallowing L.D.O.H. Feaces" Cd

(Bones Brigade - BB018)
Release date:
2003

Review:
I'm usually not so fond of live recordings by grind bands, Last Days of Humanity pulls it off nicely though, the sound is pretty damn good, all quite clear but with a typical raw live edge of course... the trademark LDOH grotesquely pitch-shifted gurgling eructations take the forefront, backed up with some rough, thrashing guitars/bass and swift, blasting, speedy drumming. So, yeah L.D.O.H. sounds as monstrous as ever... and this cd is an amazing, unrelentling series of their grinding filth-songs. Hearing the earlier material in new and tight versions is quite fun (old favorites like "Ulcerated Offal"... and "Born to Murder the World" which concludes the cd in a most effective way), and I think I almost prefer the raw vibe of this recording to the production on "Hymns of..." which slightly lacked some of that raw thickness... A very well-made live cd in my opinion then. A weirdly visually pleasant and crisp layout, a sickening selection of real-life atrocities. That's about it... Last Days of Humanity is still one of the most uncompromising, interesting Goregrind bands around, this is a fine live cd and L.D.O.H. fans should get a kick out of it; I gotta admit I would have preferred a new studio full length effort, but hopefully, that's also coming up!

Tracks: 1)Zombie interlude 2)Excremental mess of fecal putrilage 3)138 min. body disposal 4)Slithered limbs 5)Gruesome face decapitation 6)Fermented gut burst 7)Sounds of rancid juices sloshing around your coffin 8)Chopped up face beyond recognition 9)Orgasmic abortion 10)Ulcerated offal 11)Lugubrious genital miscreation
12)Erosed int. purulency 13)Exposed mangled orrifice 14)Entangled in septic gore 15)48th cut 16)Excremental carnage 17)Decrepitated regurgitations in foetal leprosy 18)Carnal thrash 19)Effective impalement 20)Hacked into red mush 21)Xtc of swallowing torso feaces 22)A reeking pile of septic brainfluid 23)Grume collection of body parts 24)Rukkende mus 25)Necrotic eruption 26)Septic convulsion 27)Born to murder the world

TALES FROM URANUS Issue #7 (January 04)

Review:
This is the seventh issue of this fine comic/zine and it just keeps getting better and better. First of all, I'm not sure but it seems to me that it got alot thicker, more pages & content... Anyway, as always, the graphics are killer and full color, the stories are just insane, non-sensical and absurd plots, only a pretext to display a maximum amount of gore, depravity, slime monsters, sleaze, tits and guts... and it sure delivers on all accounts! The opening tale is a weird, hysterical gory Friday the 13th type slasher spoof, with a heavy metal twist... Next you've got an assortment of stories about scumbag bikers, flesh hungry female cannibals with giant boobs and more bikers... The final story contains not one but two mind-blowing plot twists, perhaps the craziest plot twists I've seen in a Tales from Uranus issue yet, purely hysterical! The zine parts are also really solid stuff; very fun interviews with Lord Gore, Engorged, Frightmare, Billy/Jill/Razorback Records, Dennis Dread (Engorged artist), Schnauzer, Fuck... I'm Dead... Some of them seem to be a little old but all of them are cool reads with questions sticking to the essential. There's a also a slew of nice reviews about all sorts of crap, from obscure exploitation/horror movie reviews to death, metal & grind record reviews... A wide spectrum of pure, unadulterated, gory and trashy entertainment!

RABID Demo Cd-r

Review:
Here's a very new band out of New York that plays totally old school death metal/grindgore... Their music is quite basic and seems to combine Impetigo-esque catchy mid-paced gorecore and speedier Repulsion-type thrashing grind, maybe even with a few Misfits horror/punk touches to it, and some other very probable influences from bands like Macabre & Gut too... Positive aspects are some pretty solid and assured drumming (often midtempo with frequent, fast outbursts), the sound production is quite good and clear, especially for a first demo, there's a cool bass sound, and well-rendered, twisted vocals (a mix of shriek/squeak and more guttural gurgling grunts, very much like early Carcass & Impetigo respectively)... The guitar riffing isn't always all that tight and slightly too out of tune for my taste but overall the song structures are well-rounded, quite often simple, catchy, thrashing and fun... The theme of the imagery and lyrics is extremely cheesy horror and gore. Rabid doesn't sound great yet but with more work I think this band definitely has the potential to get very interesting, so watch out for them!

Tracks: 1)Bad taste 2)Dr. Zombie 3)Gorethem 4)Creature feature 5)I drink your blood and I eat your skin 6)Give me my brain back
