MASSMURDER "Slaughtered for Snuff" Cd

(Unmatched Brutality)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 21:41

Review:
8 tracks in about 20 minutes... Extreme, brutal death metal from Holland. Recording sound is just fine... This stuff is full of brain-numbing relentless blastbeats, fierce low growls, sharp thrashing and chugging guitar riffs, all pretty ordinary but convincing, intense and well-executed. I'm hearing similarities with Deeds of Flesh, Suffocation, Deranged maybe Sinister too... They're not especially distinctive among most other bands of the genre, but this cd is pretty damn enjoyable. Some very good looking artwork and layout... Lyrics are printed and they're pretty vile too...

Tracks: 1)Corpse copulation 2)Slaughtered for snuff 3)Homicidal whore 4)Fleshfest 5)Meatcleaver massacre 6)Cadaver disinterment 7)Soaked in semen 8)Perverse molestation

NECROPHAGIST "Epitaph" Cd

(Relapse Records)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 32:56

Review:
Yeah this album must have been alot of work, flawless musicianship, highly complex compositions... This is very fast and quirky brutal death metal with an insane level of complexity... A guitar solo every few minutes or so... Sharp riffs, precise drumming, refined song structures, etc... Reminds me of a faster, more intense Disincarnate, this and the most technical parts of Death and Morbid Angel... Songs are also seriously blasting at times too... Problem is the technicity often feels too forced, personally I really can't get into metal that's so cold and calculated, they manage to be really catchy and quite innovative and fresh at times, but in the end, this dizzying over-abundance of musical dexterity almost makes me nauseous... Also, I wanna say extremely intricate musical work is fine and all but it doesn't equal effective song writing to me. People into technical death metal acts such as Origin should totally love it anyway, but this stuff's clearly not for me though...

Tracks: 1)Stabwound 2)The stillborn one 3)Ignominous & pale 4)Diminished to be 5)Epitaph 6)Only ash remains 7)Seven 8)Symbiotic in theory

GUTTURAL SECRETE "Artistic Creation with Cranial Stumps" Mcd

(Unmatched Brutality)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 16:27

Review:
Some tightly played, stereotypical brutal death metal, with repulsive deeply guttural grunts, squeals and growls, substantial guitar thumping and chugging, this stuff sounds fresh and catchy enough, it's some pretty generic and predictable kind of metal but it still managed to keep my interest up over the course of the whole (pretty short) running time... Very nice, heavy sound production, although I'm easily pleased in that area... If you're into that kind of brutal death metal, you should be into this one anyway, I guess it's just as good as anything else released by Unmatched Brutality...

Tracks: 1)Slit into Succulunce, 2)Ejaculating Obesity, 3)Incestuous Refiguration, 4)Visected in Vaginal Bile

INVERACITY "Circle of Perversion" Cd

(Unmatched Brutality)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 28:14

Review:
This greek band is a very apt brutal death metal band, they emulate the style of Suffocation "Effigy of the Forgotten" era incredibly well down to the exact same type of fast, tight, pounding and blasting drumming, intricate, heavy and thrashing guitar riffing, twisted bass lines and of course ultra-deep, unintelligible guttural growls, "Inveracity" is most certainly a nod to "Effigy's" opening song too... The other major influence here is Cannibal Corpse "Tomb of the Mutilated" era, with occasionally the same tone of vocals or some similar bass work. Compositions are all quite solid, just very well-rounded, and with a reasonable level of complexity. Musicianship is strong throughout and the sound production is quite well balanced and heavy, you can perfectly hear all the bass slappings, ripping guitar riffs, savage growlings and brutal blastings... This stuff sounds almost identical to early Suffocation, that's about all there is to it... songs are definitely not as memorable though of course, but even the latest Suffocation album doesn't sound as similar to "Effigy..." as this cd... There's no artwork by Dan SeaGrave here though... The front and back covers are made out of cool italian giallo posters which is a nice touch although some of this stuff have already been used on Catasexual Urge Motivation "Nekronicle" cd not so long ago... The lyrics are a very mysogynistic and crass mixture of gore, porn and necrophilia, similar to "Tomb of the Mutilated" again, only much simpler and much sillier too. If you're after something exactly like early Suffocation, this is the band for you, they're a totally unoriginal but still quite effective clone.

Tracks: 1)Savagely beaten 2)Repulsed by vaginal reek 3)Fistfuck sodomy 4)Defloration 5)Unconscious 6)Ejaculation over mutilation 7)Blood of impurity 8)Compulsive degradation 9)She died in my arms 10)Eleven 11)Multiple homicide

CARVE "Revel in Human Filth" Cd

(Black Hole - BHP 010)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 34:07

Review:
Carve is swedish death metal but with a drum machine, the style is still very traditional death metal, a sort of a cross between Massacre "From Beyond", Vomitory and early Grave (especially "You'll Never see..."), although maybe a little "cleaner", not as visceral. The vocalist is an ex-Deranged member (I think he did the vocals on "Rated-X" & "Architects of Perversions"), his vocal style here is about the same it was on Deranged, roaring growls, but maybe not as deep and guttural anymore, probably a little closer to Benediction in tone... Riffs are basic and quite effective, often giving off a dark and gloomy foreboding atmosphere, songs are pretty tightly constructed, mostly mid-paced but not without some blasting parts and catchy fast peppy rhythms here and there... Drum programming is well-handled, it's not easy making a drum machine sound any good in death metal... The programmed drumming here doesn't sound perfect of course but in my opinion it's a rather seemless work, nothing too distracting... Overall, this is a pretty decent album, some well-crafted songs, memorable riffs... Layout and artwork is really beautiful work too...

Tracks: 1)Stabwound 2)The stillborn one 3)Ignominous & pale 4)Diminished to be 5)Epitaph 6)Only ash remains 7)Seven 8)Symbiotic in theory

SERIAL BUTCHER "Genocide Landscape" Mcd

(Deep Send Records - DSR012)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 18:34

Review:
This cd kicks off with an intro from "Henry: Portait of a Serial Killer" and then... This belgian band plays some really fine brutal death metal, an ingenious mixture of Cannibal Corpse "Tomb of the Mutilated" era and Cryptopsy... Truly solid musicianship, cozy sound production and nicely flowing songs... Catchy, thrashing and chugging guitars with quite a few pretty memorable riffs thrown in (love the riff that breaks the second song "Hospital Hecatomb"), rapid and blasting drumming... Honestly, this is extremely satisfying death metal we've got here... some very creative, clever and surprising song writing... Some great arrangements and a few insane guitar solis that actually feel cohesive within the songs... This band delivers some mean and nasty death metal but at the same time isn't afraid of adding originality and even humorous touches to their songs... I really like how track 5 "Mangled in the mortuary" progressively leads to a conclusion on that Deep Purple "Smoke on the Water" riff, just clever and funny stuff... Serial Butcher is a very talented band, they seem totally at ease with their instruments, and they use their technical skills wisely within some very dynamic song-writing... usually technicity equals boring to me but here I think the band uses their abilities in a very cool way. Some of the most effective brutal death metal I've heard in a while...

Tracks: 1)a first grade teacher's pulpification 2)hospital hecatomb 3)cum/gut expulsion 4)where is the rest of me? 5)mangled in the mortuary 6)brutally bashed baby boom

CENOTAPH "Pseudo Verminal Cadaverum" Cd

(United Guttural Records/Drain Productions - DP002CD)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 39:37

Review:
Turkish brutal death metal, a solid offering from Cenotaph... Musically this seems even more influenced by early Suffocation than in the past, a cross between "Effigy of the Forgotten" & "Breeding the Spawns"... Some pretty technical, thrashing and chunky guitar work, pounding and blasting drums with tons of breaks and tempo changes, vocals between Suffocation-type guttural growls and more roaring growls like Benediction and stuff... Intricate compositions and structuring work all around... Some pretty gripping rhythms and overall a very energic driving force, some deadening heaviness and brutality. Still, this honestly remains quite unoriginal and without many surprises, but with some great musicianship and songs that stay tight throughout, this album is an enjoyable listen... The sound production has a slightly dark edge but is all nice and clear enough to me anyway... They also definitely tightened their act regarding the artwork which is much more typical death metal fare but still much better than "Puked Genital Purulency" (which looked like just a bunch of internet gore pictures thrown together really quickly), song titles and lyrics are also slightly less ludicrous/meaningless... They given up intros too... and since they didn't use them especially well, it's all good news... I think their music style works better without intros anyway... To sum up, this is some pretty good work, perhaps more strictly destined to fans of Suffocation-type death metal... Certainly the best brutal death metal band out of Turkey, although I don't know that many more...

Tracks: 1)Bloodbath is Her Own Deathbed 2)Devoured Dead Stench 3)Stabbed Faces 4)Bloody Autopsy Table 5)Compulsive Disownency 6)Goremented Visceral Reality 7)Different Dimensional Pervertation 8)Pseudo Verminal Cadaverium 9)Carving Mental Butchery

SAPROGENIC "The Sound of Flesh on Concrete" Cd

(Deep Send Records - DSR010)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 28:29

Review:
Some more proficient if somewhat banal brutal death metal here... This band's sound and style reminds me of stuff like Vomit Remnants, with a morbid and putrid vibe, some thrashing guitars, relentlessly pummeling drumming, guttural growling belches... Song structures are interesting enough to keep your attention up throughout, not exactly varied but pretty catchy overall... This isn't the best cd ever, but it's still pretty fucking decent brutal death metal... And really huge addicts of the genre should appreciate it anyway, in theory...

Tracks: 1)Occular Desication 2)Foaming Rectal Seepage 3)Prolapsed Trachea Fuck Toy 4)Gluttonous Consumption 5)Dripping Metaphilia 6)Cerebral Regurgitation 7)Ovulation Redirected 8)Inhale the Effluence of Decay 9)Force Fed Excrement 10)Remnants of Cephalotripsy 11)The Wet Sound of Flesh on Concrete

PAGANIZER "No Divine Rapture" Cd

(Xtreem Music)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 39:37

Review:
Pretty good death metal with a sound in the early 1990's swedish tradition... Downtuned, heavy, straightforward and basic... It often reminds me of Grave but maybe with a more modern and glossy side to it, more blasting thrown in too, so actually more similar to Vomitory in that regard... Big fat growling vocals, thick guitar sound, tight pounding rhythms, assuredly some well executed songs... This is quite enjoyable death metal overall although it lacks some diversity, at one point in the album you start to realize all the riffs sound just about the same... It's still a fun listen, but it definitely gets boring after a while. It's the fifth Paganizer album... although I've never ever heard from them before... Anyway, not a masterpiece, but if you're really really heavily into swedish death metal I say go for it, sound production is nice, cover art looks pretty awful, but it's a tolerable death metal offering...

Tracks: 1)No Divine Rapture 2)On Your Knees 3)Nailed Forever 4)Brutally Torn Sanity 5)Devour Digest Defecate 6)Abscess In Black 7)The Plague That Hunts 8)Way Of The Rotting 9)Ingen Utväg

LITURGY "Dawn of Ash" Cd

(Unmatched Brutality)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 28:14

Review:
The cover art tricked me into thinking this would be some refined death metal of some kind, but no, not really... This is brutal death metal in the vein of most of the bands signed on Unmatched Brutality... Liturgy's vocalist is an ex-Disgorge (Us) member I think so it gives you an idea... Drums are constantly blasting beating/double-bass pummeling kind of stuff, guitar riffs are a never-ending series of rapid thrashing and thumping, vocals are obviously very very deep guttural growls... This stuff sounds practicly the same from start to finish, with almost no variation... There's no drive, no hook, no excitement... It's an ok album I guess but it gets pretty tiring in the long run... Sound production isn't so great either (for brutal death metal standards)... drums and vocals sound alright but the guitar parts sound while being sufficiently loud in the mix have a kinda rough feel and without enough depth to them... I guess some people are into this kind of stuff... It's very competently performed, but still pretty unimaginative and well... kinda dull brutal death metal to me, sorry...

Tracks: 1)Shrine of Moria 2)Shrouded in Suffering 3)Scars of the Saints 4)Dawn of Ash 5)Worship Incise 6)The Bishop's Gathering 7)Wounds of Christ 8)Solemn 9)The Acolyte's Exoneration 10)Cognitive Lust of Mutilation 11)Infested with Worms

REPROBATION "Undoing Creation" Cd

(Forever Underground - FU014)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 31:46

Review:
Here's some very capable death metal... Nice, intricate composition work, with quite dynamic and reasonably diversified songs, from fast and blasting to mid-paced and slow... Thrashing and slightly melodic guitar riffs, quite a bit of technical skills, a few excellent guitar solis, pretty tight and fast drumming, varied vocals that range from guttural growls to roars and higher shrieking. This is very nice work, but ultimately it honestly gets kind of tedious after a while... Songs are not catchy enough, there aren't any truly gripping riffs and vocals are not that interesting for the most part... Don't get me wrong, this is definitely listenable death metal and it really sounds like alot of work went into this... I'd say this cd reminds me of Brutality on "Screams of Anguish" (which I'm not such a big fan of to start with) quite a bit... The sound production is fairly good, musicianship is very good. It's an ok death metal cd, not something I'd put on repeat personally... But still a worthy effort.

Tracks: 1)Salvation 2)Refection 3)Done... 4)Sacrificing the disfigured 5)Mummification 6)The one they hate 7)Cold reality 8)Reconstructing the defleshed 9)Cum covered coma patient 10)Reprobation

CEREBRAL EFFUSION "Violence in motion" Cd

(Unmatched Brutality)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 28:14

Review:
Decent but kinda lukewarm brutal death metal. Expect something like Suffocation or Deeds of Flesh... Chugging and thumping guitars, double bass kickings, pounding and blasting drumming, guttural growls slightly splattery sort of like Demilich (although not as impressive, just in the vein of...) and some backing high screaming here and there... Compositions are quite complex just the way this kind of brutal death metal usually is... It's not really bad, just too average to get excited about it... But I guess if you're really really looking for more of this kind of brutal death metal, well it's a listenable album... Band's spanish I think.

Tracks: 1)Bloody Ecstasy 2)Dismenbered 3)Forthcoming Cannibalism 4)The Inescapable Bond Of The Necromancer 5)Unnatural Disturbed Flesh 6)Homicide And Justified Medicine 7)Violence In Motion 8)Human Butchery 9)Sodomized By Daddy

BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA "Snapped" Mcd

Release date: 2003
Running time:
26:53

Review:
Run-of-the-mill brutal death metal, very similar to Suffocation or Deicide if you took all the fast parts and complexity away from them, this is rather mid-paced stuff for the most part, with tons of double bass drumming, thumping, chunky guitar riffs and bestial growling vocals. The sound production is good and heavy. The band has some chemistry but it simply lacks faster parts and the thumping type of guitar riffs is repeated over and over again to the point of irritation, occasionally some parts are somewhat catchy like on track 3 "Antichrist", but the catchy parts are too damn short like just a few seconds... the rest is all too slow, unmemorable, excruciatingly repetitive and dragging... Sorry but I really couldn't get into this...

Tracks: 1)String them up 2)Snapped 3)Antichrist 4)Heretic 5)Consumed 6)Blunt force trauma

CUMCHRIST "Cumplete" Cd

(Unmatched Brutality)
Release date:
2003
Running time: 28:14

Review:
Us brutal death metal, not unlike most other american brutal death metal bands, something pretty similar to Deicide only with a much more basic-sounding, straightforward approach and much shorter tracks too... Well, you know the deal... Pummeling blastbeats, guttural growls, heavy, crushing chug chug guitar riffs... blasphemous lyrics and random religious mockery... Top notch sound production, and yes, it's very "brutal" but otherwise this is a pretty bland cd, I don't see myself listening to this many times again...

Tracks: 1)Ditchpig 2)Jesus Sold Me A Bunk Eight 3)Mary Had A Little Clam 4)Crucifixion Must Hurt Like A Bitch 5)Vaginal Bloodfarts 6)Jesus Was A Facepainter 7)I Had To Break Up With Your Mom 8)In The Sea Of Heavy Metal, You Are Plankton 9)Let's Pretend I'm The Pope 10)Jesus Was An Angry Drunk 11)God Owes Me Money
Phlegm Phlagm 12)Jehova Probe 13)Yahweh Is My Mom 14)Ripping At The Flesh Of Jesus Christ 15)I Spell God C.U.N.T. 16)Battery Acid Enema 17)My Toothless Bitch
