JIGSORE TERROR "World End Carnage" Lp

(Power It Up - P.I.U. #48)
Release date:
2005

Review:
So this is the side-band of 2 (out of 3) Birdflesh members and unsuprisingly it sounds very much like well, Birdflesh, only with much more of a serious tone, and a definitely stronger Terrorizer influence overall (plus just a smidge of Repulsion, through the song titles more than in the music though). In fact, Jigsore Terror is truer to the early Terrorizer sound than what the Terrorizer reunion is probably gonna end up sounding like (according to what I've heard so far). Drumming-wise, this is blast-o-rama, tight and fast as fuck, pulverizing blastbeats; Riffage is also dark, tense, grindcore type stuff with some thrash metal touches here and there. Vocals keep a raging, raspy, roaring sort of vibe throughout, and remain in a relatively lower range, they occasionally go high but never too high, no truly hysterical screamy vocals here, we're still in Terrorizer territory which is definitely something I appreciate. Everything has pretty much already been done in terms in grindcore, so much of the songs don't seem that fresh or memorable. This stuff is the opposite of original, and you might get a mechanical feel out of it sometimes (similar to stuff like Nasum or Inhume), but it gets the job done and in my opinion manages to get very close to a genuine old school grindcore kind of vibe, sound production is just right, clear but retaining tons of rawness and great distortion (this is simply the Birdlfesh sound), musicianship is truly amazing and this stuff is basicly flawless grindcore song-writing... Can't help but highly recommend this.

Tracks: 1)Gorging On Exposed Arteries 2)Skeletal Decomposition 3)Slaughtered Existance 4)Death Rattle Cacaphony 5)Senseless Slaughter 6)Rotten Heads 7)Reeking Death 8)Insame Torture 9)Scattered Cranial Remains 10)Violent Molestation 11)Corpses On Fire 12)Feast Of Dismembered Limbs 13)Brutally Murdered 14)Bestial Frenzy 15)World End Carnage

HAEMORRHAGE/NUNSLAUGHTER Split 7" Ep

(Hell's Headbangers Records)
Release date: 2005

Haemorrhage Review:
Two new songs (also to be featured on the upcoming fourth cd I think...) and an older one is what you get here. Killer sound, great music, nothing much to say except that this is Haemorrhage and it totally kills! Just scorching, pulsating, heavy goregrind! The cover artwork is one of my new favorites from Haemorrhage, simple but perfect, similar to the famous scalpel inside view from the "Grume" booklet, but even more splattery... Excellent full color layout, printed lyrics... Also this is an excellent pairing with NunSlaughter making this split ep a total must-have...
Nunslaughter Review: Yet again Nunslaughter plays the sort of uncompromising, mindblowing thrashing death metal you can expect from them... As old school as it gets. Flesh-ripping riffs, crushing and blasting drumming, abrasive roaring vocals... This stuff sounds like Morbid Angel "Altars of Madness" mixed with Repulsion. Edgy, sharp and extremely aggressive. The usual evil lyrics and imagery are there too and it all works! Awesome art by Chris Moyen too... I think this Split Ep also came in a saw -shaped, very limited edition but I'm pretty it's sold out already...

Tracks: Haemorrhage: 1)Feasting on Purulence 2)Disgorging Innards 3)Treasures of Anatomy
Nunslaughter "Cut God Out": 1)Hell Yawns Before You 2)Saw Me

LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER/COMRADES Split 7" Ep

(Power It Up)
Release date:
2005

Looking for an Answer Review:
Who can say no to a bit of the old ultra-violence?!!! Spanish grindcore gods Looking for an Answer never fail to give me a severe ass-whooping with each and every one of their releases and this one is certainly no exception. A guitar sound as thick as a wall, damn catchy riffing, head-spinning drumming grind blasts, awesome, incredibly powerful vocal delivery (with a welcome emphasis on lower growls while higher shrieking take the backseat, my personal indicator of superior grind)... Not to mention perfectly flowing songs with tons of pounding rhythms, great groove and above all unfaltering speeds... I could go on and on on how much this band rules... Just take my word for it, this band is clearly the shit!
Comrades Review: I'm afraid anything that comes after a side of Looking for an Answer is bound to pale in comparison... Anyway, the intensity might go down a tiny bit with this side but Comrades provides an extremely solid and engaging fast/grindcore outing here... The guitar-tuning is higher than usual, songs are usually based on midtempo parts and comprehensible riffs which eventually burst into total blasting and blistering powerviolence... Vocal-wise, this strictly high-pitched shrieking and screaming, as stated before in this review, not my favorite type of vocals, as it tends to grate me, but this is still pretty effective here. A top notch split ep release then, layout is very good-looking and my copy was coming in a very pretty-looking white-colored vinyl... Warmly recommended!

Tracks: Looking for an Answer: 1)Eutanasia 2)Conocimiendo Implica Responsabilidad 3)Genocidio Multinacional 4)Cadaveres de Libertad 5)Realidades de su Guerra 6)Nuestra Postura
Comrades: 1)Amoebic 2)My Minds in a Vice 3)New Pigs on the Block

LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER/OVERPOWERING Split 7" Ep

(Power It Up)
Release date:
2005

Looking for an Answer Review:
One of the world's best current grindcore act, not sure what I can you don't already know. If you have the slightest bit of interest in grind, you should already be all over this band. Huge sound, bulldozing drumming, flesh-ripping riffs, raging shrieking and growling vocals... The Nasum is heritage can be felt here, this is definitely a more modern age grindcore, with as much great hooks and groove as blasts; digest grindcore, it just goes down smoothly...
Overpowering Review: Another spanish act complements this split... Definitely not as good as Looking for an Answer's side, but this is still powerful, highly energetic, fastcore/grindcore... Overwhelming drum-machine blastbeats, driving distort-saturated guitars, pissed off shouting vocals. Overall, good, clean, violent fun, just maybe a little too repetitive at times and slightly brought down by the inescapably synthethic drum sound. Anyhow, this is high quality spanish grindcore here

Tracks: Looking for an Answer: 1)Curacion Contra Lucro 2)Consumo Genera Explotacion 3)Invasion 4)Verdadero Enemigo 5)Voluntaria Ignorancia
Overpowering: 1)Realidad 2)Virus 3)Companeros 3)Patético 5)Demasiado 6)Ansiedad

UNHOLY GRAVE /SEWN SHUT Split 7" Ep

(Power It Up - P.I.U. #39)
Release date:
2004

Unholy Grave Review:
A new slab of pure grindcore hysteria is what you get here, what else do you expect from Unholy Grave?! The band is up to their usual standards here. Raw, aggressive sound, ripping guitars, fast, grinding, pulsating rhythms, madman screaming and monstrous growling... An equal amount of grind and fast crust influences, a unique touch of delirious insanity, a great deal of grinding savoir-faire, Unholy Grave continues to be fun and exciting with each release for me, keep the records coming...
Sewn Shut Review: This swedish grindcore powerhouse has nothing to prove anymore, but they still deliver the goods here of course... Fast, crushing heavy, furiously fast-paced, killer dual scream/growl vocal assaults, tight, fucking brutal and intricate drumming, intense song structures with tons of twists and turns, this is exciting work... Strong Nasum-esque sound production... In conclusion, an excellent split, simply the cream of the crop in terms of grindcore, the only trouble is that it's over too fast.

Tracks: Unholy Grave: 1)Manslaughter 2)Another Action 3)War
Sewn Shut: 1)Tactics of the Lie 2)Ashes of Genocide 3)Synthetic Elation 4)Lifeless

UNHOLY GRAVE /BLOOD I BLEED Split 7" Ep

(Out of Control Records)
Release date:
2005

Umpteenth Split Ep coming from the japanese of Unholy Grave, still persevering in playing their own brand of wild, hyper grindcore... As usual, this is quality stuff, incomparable sharp, raw edge, killer riffs, hard-striking drumming, completely insane, over-the-top vocals, this band's grind feels as exhilarating and fresh as it was on their first release (actually I'm not sure what their first release was now that I think about, so maybe I haven't even heard it, he). The main riff from the third song here kinda reminds me of Bolt Thrower, interesting variation! Overall, yet another uber cool release from good old, reliant Unholy Grave!
First time I ever heard of Blood I Bleed, I'd say my first impression is pretty positive; this is fastcore/grindcore/crust type of stuff, very intense, blistering and blasting type of stuff... Tightly performed, never letting up, the only downside are the vocals which sound a little too whiny and weak... Anywayhow, overall this is solid stuff, this split Ep gets two thumbs up from me!

Tracks: Unholy Grave: 1)Desire 2)Evil Beyond Belief 3)Blind Love 4)Yells for Help
Blood I Bleed: 1)Ideological Suicide 2)No One Own Will 3)Desolate Realm 4)Last Grasp Enterprises 5)Modern Killings

HYPOCHRISTIANS 7" Ep

Release date: 2005

Review:
I remember seeing this band name on flyers and stuff quite a long time ago, but I had never actually listened to any of their stuff until now. This sounds like a mixture of evil old school death metal (especially the raucous roaring vocals and the whole anti-christian imagery), with an overall nasty, raw, grinding edge very much like early Agathocles, all of that enhanced by some very catchy crustcore type d-beat drumming. So this is a cross-breeding of an equal amount of grind, death & crust influences and the result is just great, tight little songs, old school sound, this stuff almost sounds like it was recorded in the late 80's. Simple and very awesome. My copy comes in a cool-looking pink, and the cover artwork is quite nice too, what else can I say, this Ep is just rad!

Tracks: Side Burning Church: 1)Pedophile Priests 2)What a Waste 3)Time Reveals All Posers
Side CxMxDx: 1)Religious Shit 2)Slaughter Thy Christians

LOS REZIOS /DISSECT Split 7" Ep

(Power It Up)
Release date: 2005

Los Rezios Review:
Traditional Crustcore here, just following the good old Discharge/Doom formula, d-beat drumming, tortured shouts, rocking riffs and all that stuff... Nothing you probably haven't before but still a whole lot of nervous, raw energy. Overall really enjoyable and tightly performed. Looks like this band comes from Peru, now that's something you don't see everyday!
Dissect Review: More crust on Side B, this time from Finland. A rugged, more dissonant sound, vocals that are shouted in a clear, fast, spoken kind of way (also with some more eccentric more screamy backing vocals), slightly messy drumming, original riffing, everything with a generally weird, chaotic vibe... Not exactly my thing but listenable.

Tracks: Los Rezios : 1)Massangre 2)Esperanola Muerte 3)Guerra Contra el Terror 4)Ellos Nos Odiani
Dissect: 1)VKPM 2)Sirkus 3)Elukka

GRITOS DE ALERTA/SICK TERROR Split 7" Ep

(Power It Up)
Release date: 2004

Gritos de Alerta Review:
From Brazil comes this insane band playing fastcore/speed-crazed grind/crust... Incisive guitar riffing, crushing, tight drum blasting assaults, vocals filled with desperate rage and screamed at the top of the lungs. This is catchy, blistering, all-out energetic kind of stuff that'll leave you breathless. Siege & Drop Dead comes to mind, really, really effective band.
Sick Terror Review: Side B of this split has Sick Terror on it, another brazilian band also specialised in blastbeat fastcore fury. Honestly though I'm not digging the vocals so much here, they're very high-pitched, kinda nasal, hardcore type stuff... They just sound weird in my opinion. With lower vocals, this stuff would rule so much more. Anyway, musically this stuff is still pretty fucking great, hyperfast rhythms, rolling and bouncing, amazing, driving guitar riffs, twisted song structures... This split ep is a really nice crust/grind/fastcore vehicle, if you dig the genre, I recommend, both bands are extremely good at what they do.

Tracks: Gritos de Alerta: 1)O Que Restou? 2)Uma vida 3)A Sorte Foi Lancada 4)Agora e Tarde
Sick Terror : 1)E Sempre Pior 2)Azar Seu Stigmata 3)Zaratrusta e o Espelho dos Deuses 4)Balada Niilista de Segunda Feira 5)Painu Helvettin Natsiäpärät
