NEURO-VISCERAL EXHUMATION "The Human Society Wants More Gore" Cd

(Sonic Death Records - SDR 003)
Release date: 2005
Running time:
32:08

Review:
So this is it... That's the new album by Neuro-Visceral Exhumation, without doubt my favorite band from Brazil. It seems the band's line-up has been downsized as the band picture only exhibits 2 members... Still, the third member (vocals & bass) apparently had a large part in the recording of the album anyway... Anyhow, I remember being very positively impressed by their first offering "Mass Murder Festival"... And this new one, I think, lives up to it... This is simply some truly enjoyable Goregrind. Sound has a crispy, raw edge but with a definite depth to it, some really gorgeous heaviness... Guitars are totally downtuned and bass comes with some nice distort... Drumming is insanely catchy, ultrafast, blasting or mid-paced/groovy, this is some superb drumming work, tight and really skilful. Neuro-Visceral most obvious resemblances are Dead Infection, "Surgical Disembowelment" era for the more mid-paced moments (infectious rhythms and beautiful riffing simplicity), Last Days of Humanity for the faster, grindier and goriest parts (furious drumming blasts, infamous rattling gurgles and all...) And finally there's an overall air of Hemdale (for all the downtuned, heavy guitars and otherwise screamy vocals...) You can clearly discern some death metal influences too... You'd think an Incantation cover version in a goregrind record would stick out like a sore thumb but it actually blends in pretty well here; because well, there's a certain doomy vibe to NVE's style as well... Something else worthy of note is the other cover version, around the end of the album, this time of Repulsion's "Helga Lost her Fuckin' Head" which is a definite highlight in the whole cd for me! This band makes some odd but interesting cover version choices, I like it! In short, this is some fine grind, well-balanced, with just the right amount of crunchy rawness, heaviness, speed and sickness... Makes me feel all warm inside! Layout art is easy on the eye and it comes as a pretty neat digipack! Recommended.

Tracks: 1)Hang Em On Their Guts 2)Sinister Traces Of Violence 3)Homicide Is On My Side 4)The Human Society Wants More Gore 5)From Eva Comes My Obsession 6)Profanation 7)Hatred-Bloodbath And Hecatombe 8)Hatefilled Atrocities       9)Hit Me With Dead Flesh 10)Stabbing Cranial Tumours 11)Fisically Humiliated 12)Handsaw Rectal Abortion 13)Insanity By Female Anatomy 14)Unfinishing Bleedings 15)Helga 16)Washed In Recto-Visceral Secretions In A Collective Carnage Post Intercourse

MACHETAZO "Sinfonias del Terror Ciego" Cd

(Razorback Records - RR32)
Release date: 2005
Running time:
31:44

Review:
The Blind Dead series aren't really my fave zombie movies, not even my fave spanish zombie movies (Jorge Grau's "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie"!) or spanish horror movies ("The House That Screams"!), honestly the Blind Dead movies aren't really that great (though I seem to remember the second one, "Return of the Blind Dead" was the strongest of the bunch! Maybe check this one out first!)... Still, the Blind Dead creatures themselves are pretty fascinating and perfect for a concept album like this... Even Cathedral made a bunch of songs about them... To sum the story up, these are former blood-sucking Templar knights who were persecuted, killed and got their eyes beaked out by birds... Centuries later, they rise from their graves all zombified, skeletonized, thirsty for blood, riding on their zombie horses in slow motion, swinging their swords around! They might be blind but they ain't deaf, make a noise or scream and they'll go straight to you and grab you with their dried up bony fingers! For Machetazo, this is ground for tons of weird and creepy movie samples and intros and a superb fold-out poster artwork by Nor... The whole layout is also really neat, all black & white & greenich tints, kind of musty-looking like if it had been left in a tomb for a hundred years...
Ok, enough movie talk! Musically, this is pretty much same old Machetazo but with fresh new songs! Raw and nasty old school death metal/grindcore. The main difference is the band got an additional member which I'm guessing is that bassist guy! The bass parts are way more prominent and kinda technical compared to the old stuff... Almost Iron Maiden-style... It really makes the songs more swirly and cool, definitely a great plus to Machetazo usual style! The mid-paced thrashing intro song "
Marcha De Los Muertos Sin Ojos" sort of reminds me of something out of Metallica "And Justice for All..." but the rest of the album is mostly all-out aggression and grinding death metal... Still, you can't do an album about the slowest moving zombies in movie history and not have a few spooky doom parts in there! Some moments in this album are therefore totally sludgy and slow, in a definite Autopsy vein! By coincidence Chris Riefert recorded vocals for one of the songs here! (the truth is I couldn't tell which song it was until I checked, haha! But still... Classy guest appearance!) A good balanced between the "Carne de Cementerio" death metal vibe and the grindy intensity from "Trono de Huesos", all of this plus more bass in the mix and probably the band's best sound production yet, still raw but in a way every instrument can be heard more distinctly this time. Flawless layout/art direction also makes this one of the most gorgeous-looking Razorback release ever... "Have they heard your heart beating?", "Scream... So They Can Find You", "Tonight they return and everyone will die."... Don't pass on this one!

Tracks: 1)Marcha De Los Muertos Sin Ojos (3:03) 2)Monjes Fantasma De Ultratumba (1:59) 3)Sacrificio (Para El Ídolo Tu Muerte Para Ellos Tu Sangre) (1:11) 4)Adoremos Al Cráneo Cornudo (0:53) 5)Niebla Fúnebre (2:32) 6)Colgados Y Abandonados A La Putrefacción (1:31) 7)Cripta (2:57) 8)Sepulcros Malditos (1:38) 9)Ritual De Resurrección (1:49) 10)El Necronomicon Templario (2:05) 11)Monasterio De Berzano (1:21) 12)Momificados Para La Inmortalidad (1:58) 13)Horrendos Espectros En Letargo (1:49) 14)El Buque Fantasma (2:11) 15)Psicofonía De Los Templarios De La Muerte (Los Cuentos Del Muñón Gangrenoso IV) (4:47)

LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY "In Advanced Haemorrhaging Conditions" Mcd

(Bones Brigade Records)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
7:25

Review:
So here's the latest Last Days of Humanity offering finally; It's hella short, barely above 7 minutes; If you were expecting a new full-length, that's not really it, although it should be coming next (presumably as the band's last, ever!). If their previous release (split Lp w/ Lymphatic Phlegm) sounded mostly like droning noise, this Mcd is much, much cleaner-sounding. As expected, these new songs are a full-on goregrind assault, aggressive as hell, with blazing fast drumming, blistering non-melodic guitars, cripsy bass distortion and grotesque animalistic pitch-shifted growls! Drumming is incredibly fast and swift (although the snare drum has one of those really thin sound). The band seems to be straying away from traditional thrashing/grinding playing developping into a pattern of undecipherable riffs co-ordinated by insane blasting rhythms... Some sort of organised chaos with additional savage gurgles/chomping noises. The thing is: sound quality is perfectly clear so these songs just rip through you! Intros are mostly autopsy-report type dialogue taken from horror flicks, pretty twisted and humorous... The whole thing is such a rush! A few minutes of pure madness, short but really intense... So just let the ugly shredding noise guide you... This is top notch goregrind in my book (which I'm still writing).

Tracks: 1)A Portion Of Pulpified Leftovers (1:26) 2)Fungating Sexual Orifice (0:12) 3)Multiple & Increased Lividious Layers Of Skin (0:45) 4)In Advanced Haemorrhaging Conditions (0:23) 5)Prefering Acidious Formats Of Disdischarche (0:30) 6)Fluidfilled Contents Exposed From The Abdominal Dysfunctioning Section (0:26) 7)Obscene Compulsion Towards Fecal Digestion (1:40) 8)Frozen Remnants Collection (0:32) 9)Suppurated Secretion Through Gestation (0:26) 10)Oozing Saprogenic Scrotal Liquids (1:05)

THE DAY EVERYTHING BECAME NOTHING "Slow Death by Grinding" Mcd

(No Escape Records - NE 015)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
16:37

Review:
Just so you know... The Day Everything Became Nothing is from Australia! This Ep is their newest material since their debut full length cd back in 2003. As their band name doesn't really indicate, they play mid-paced, metallic goregrind not dissimilar to german bands like Mucupurulent (still haven't listened to anything past "Sicko Babe", so that particular album is my reference point) or Cock and Ball Torture. Leading vocals are strictly pitch-shifted roaring growls, eventually aided by some enthused shrieking on a couple of songs. Sound production is heavy but crunchy... What else is there? Catchy riffing, tight rocking drumming and even some nice groove... Just well-rounded songs, structured in a very clear-cut manner, kind of a goregrinding AC/DC? Nah that sounds awful, forget I just wrote that... Anyhow, 5 catchy songs to bang your head to... The last song has a fake live stadium crowd sound thing going for it and "Fuel for Hatred" is a Satyricon cover song, some odd choices perhaps, but this Ep certainly is a joy to listen to, simply solid and entertaining... Very pleasant-looking lay-out too with band members depicted postmortem-style (cause of death: suicide)... I think Exhumed already did something like that in the past (for one of their split ep's if I'm not mistaken), but this is still a very neat layout idea.

Tracks: 1)Fiends Applaud, The Gore Is Over (3:20) 2)Vin Cerro (2:32) 3)Nothing But Death (3:00) 4)Fuel For Hatred (3:52) 5)Mortem (Live) (3:53)

MANIAC KILLER "Amusing Anecdotes for the Depraved" Cd

(No Escape Records - NE 014)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
36:55

Review:
This, is a collection cd of Maniac Killer, former one-man side-project of Maniac Neil (who's since been involved in bands such as Frightmare, Whore & Lord Gore...)... No actual new stuff here, this material dates back to a few years ago; This is more like a selection of old Maniac Killer tracks repackaged but it's probably the final word on the subject. This is without doubt Neil's most straightforward, snappy and raging musical project: an average song running time often below the minute, viciously thrashing and thumping guitars, blasting rhythms, deep guttural growls and absolutely insane bloodcurdling shrieks. Maniac Killer is definitely one of the most memorable one-man drum-machine act that I've heard, ever. Song-writing is very consistent throughout all 43 tracks... Very inventive, and catchy, most of the time... with its share of joke parts/joke songs here and there... This is exemplary work and I think all the other one-man goregrind 'bands' should take note: this is how it should be done... Some really fast-paced guitar riffing, grindy but always with a definite death metal flavor. As is often the case, the drum-machine beats tend to sound a little fake, but this stuff's well-programmed and diversified enough to keep things things fresh. Another major component of Maniac Killer is layers upon layers of quick snippets from movies, cleverly mixed in, really pumping up the songs and making them that much more exciting; Horror geeks should get a kick out of this stuff... A few of the more obvious samples out of the top of my head are Blue Velvet ("I'll send you straight to hell, fucker"), Bloodsucking Freaks, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Brain Damage, Bad Taste, Aliens, etc... Personal favorite is that one from Rosemary's Baby: "They use blood in their rituals, and the blood with the most power is baby's blood!" Front cover art (the piggy armed with a chainsaw) is also taken from a Motel Hell poster I think... Overall, I'd say Maniac Killer is sort of like Mortician on acid; Grindier, faster, crazier... Just a whole lotta whacky fun, blasting brutality and bad-ass horror movie one-liners.

DEAD INFECTION "Brain Corrosion " Cd

(Obliteration Records - ORCD 050)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
34:42

Review:
Damn you Dead Infection! Leaving us hanging like that for so many years... I was eagerly awaiting for a new DI offering even before their untimely break-up in 1999. "A Chapter of Accidents" is quite possibly my most-played cd ever right after "F.E.T.O." by Napalm Death... So how does this album fare after all these years of anticipation? Well it's fucking awesome is what it is! Ok I guess my reaction is not so unexpected with me having started a website about them out of fanaticism and all... But that's the absolute unbiased truth! Obviously their style has changed a little with time, but in my opinion Dead Infection developped into something different with each of their releases... From the raw mix of goregrind & death metal of the early demo's to the cryptic muddy sounding "Surgical Disembowelment" and the furiously grinding "A Chapter of Accidents"... On "Brain Corrosion", Dead Infection picks up where they left off on their Split Ep's w/ C.S.S.O. & Malignant Tumour. A more clear-cut, straightforward burly grind and an bizarre sense of humor more prominent than ever... Less dark, much funner and explosive... Sound-wise, this is without doubt their most "polished" effort... Seriously, they never actually sounded so overwhelmingly heavy! Although I'd say the major difference here is the total abandon of pitch-shifted vocal effects, but then again, in a way it's actually more faithful to what the band actually sounds like in a live situation. I've never heard the band use vocal effects live personally... It also reminds me alot of their split Ep w/ Blood, entitled "Party's Over" which was vocal effect-free and also one of my personal favorite recordings by the band... Anyway, Jaro's vocals really sound like insane, totally drunken growls now and they will probably put some people off, it's definitely one of those love it or hate it factor; I just know I love it... Another novelty is the use of truly whacked out screamy backing vocals... but they really only take a backseat here, nothing too intrusive... What's to say about the riffs? They're fantastic! This is some really dense riffing, so catchy and memorable... More plain and basic than in the past but still with the trademark downtuned scary Dead Infection-ness... These riffs just ring totally right, like if I've known the songs for years... I also feel a more pronounced infusion of groove overall, and perhaps more grindcore-type breakdowns, stuff like that... And last but not least, the real star of the show to me is Cyjan and his signature spectacular drumming, so damn tight, I think Cyjan has developped a drumming style of his own, it's just amazing to simply hear that sound again on some amazing 22 spanking new songs! Alright, that's about it... Crazed raving over... End of transmission.

Tracks: 1)It's Over (1:12) 2)Crazy Bucket (0:31) 3)Beware! My Name Is Thunderbolt! DEAD "Les Stars du Rock Porno" Cd

(Obliteration Records - ORCD 051)
Release date: 2004
Running time:

Review:
Here's a beautifully put together collection cd for this german Porn/Gore Death/Grind legend... This cd gathers everything the band ever put out on vinyl or tape... You can finally throw away your awful-sounding bootleg dubbed tapes and mp3's... Sound quality here is just awesome, most of this stuff is originally studio material (except for the live material from the split w/ Meatshits) and the band failed to put out any stinker in their early carreer... The "Far Beyond your Imagination" is a little rough-sounding but it's still great. All their songs are fucking classics of bloody heavy, raw, ugly and grinding death metal... A styling situated somewhere between early Pungent Stench, Necrony and Carcass "Symphonies of Sickness" era... Downtuned, groovy and nasty... Pure unadulterated bliss! As far as subject matter goes, their first ep seemed more into old fashioned gore, but the band rapidly degraded into what they're most notorious for: sleazy, no holds barred pornography, from run-of-the-mill perverse hijinks to hard-to-stomach things like scat (touched upon on their split w/ Gut, complete with gross farting sound effects)... Cd layout is absolutely gorgeous, especially the killer 4 panel collage of band pictures and show flyers inside... Some extra icing on the cake is also an interesting live jam with Gut. Simply a top notch collection cd. Honestly, I don't know what more you could ask for...

Tracks: 1)Extirpated (4:33) 2)Defeat Remains (3:37) 3)Far Beyond Your Imagination (2:57) 4)Slaves To Abysmal Perversity (4:37) 5)Thrusted To The Limit Of All Delights (3:02) 6)Delicious Taste Of Vaginal Excrements (5:26) 7)Gathering For Lust (3:36) 8)Strech (4:31) 9)Wanted For Kinky Sessions (3:26) 10)Hard Candy Cock (1:18) 11)Be My Toilet Paper (For My Stinking Ass) (3:22) 12)Suck My Ass (0:29) 13)Rectal Punishment / Recive My Golden Shower (5:02) 14)Highest Power (1:44) 15)Senite Decay (2:59) 16)Scab (3:22) 17)Far Beyound Your Imagination (2:55) 18)Defeat Remains (3:31) 19)Shriek From Infinity (2:33) 20)The Deep Of My Soul (3:25) 21)Praise (0:23) 22)Live Jam With Gut (3:55) 23)Radio Session (0:46) 24)Outro (0:26)

ULTRA VOMIT "M. Patate" Cd

(Obliteration Records - ORCD 051)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
31:00

Review:
Ultra Vomit is french and also hysterically funny... Musically, this is devastating brutal death metal with a slight grind edge, a monstrous heavy sound production and an ever-present, twisted but cute sense of humor. This stuff is super-tightly played, with juicy guitar riffs, ripping and groovy, some extremely catchy, precise and driving drum work and bestial growling/shrieking vocals... Though the real plus of this band is that they won't take themselves seriously for a split second; the band plays with their tongue firmly planted in cheek from beginning to end here and the album contains some of the wackiest vocal arrangements in a grind or death metal record, ever. A kind of depraved, absurdist spirit that's pretty close to bands like Gronibard, Mental Degeneration Unit or Excrementory Grindfuckers but obviously with its own special, stupid flavor. Assuredly a great laugh and an extremely refreshing listen... Yeah it's kind of silly but at the same time it's still solidly ripping metal. Musically, I'd say they're alot closer to Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition or even Inhumate really... A great care is given to sound production, this stuff sounds fantastic, simply crushing... The band goes an extra mile and includes tons of video footage as bonus avi files with an in-depth look into the studio recording-process: the band has a really cool sense of humor and this stuff is actually a lot of fun to watch, not boring in the least! I was laughing my ass off for the entire duration of this neat little making-of... There's also a couple of live video tracks... A really well-crafted, packed cd then... You know some bands are just cooler and this is definitely one of them! Ultra Vomit kicks ass! They rule my world!

Tracks: 1)Reborn From Death (1:00) 2)Abruted (0:37) 3)Une Souris Verte (1:06) 4)Bouba (0:07) 5)Arf! LIBIDO AIRBAG "Miss Melanoma" Mcd

(Obliteration Records - ORCD 049)
Release date: 2004
Running time:
16:08

Review:
What we have here is the new japanese edition of Libido Airbag's "Miss Melanoma"... Following the tradition of japanese re-releases, this cd contains some extras... Actually, it's only one track off the Split Ep w/ Intestinal Slaughter ("Faggot Funeral Pt 2"); there's also brand new cover artwork which looks pretty awesome and japanese translation of the song titles on the back... The rest of the layout is pretty much unchanged... Regarding my actual review, I apologise in advance since I'm simply gonna recycle what I wrote about the original release, here goes...
This is the latest Libido Airbag release and they're still on top of the electronic-grind foodchain, probably the most effective entry in the genre. Their style is this bizarre hybrid of catchy techno/jungle and Gut-style sleazy porngrind, a totally putrid and gooey sound with a distorted apocalyptic bass rumbling on the forefront, and insane beats ripping through it. Vocals are also very prominent, weird, twisted, stomach-turning grunts, pitch-shifted and oversaturated. Overall, this is really rythmic and catchy stuff, with some occasional blasting and brutal pounding as well. Sound's really sharp... Everything delivered with outrageous mean-spirited humor, with tv/movie samples nicely utilized into the song structures; you've also got some lavish and deranged artwork/packaging, and I'd say this is a done deal... A killer release in my opinion, some of Libido Airbag's best stuff to date.

Tracks: 1)Hepatitis Appetizer (1:46) 2)Rectal Blasthole (2:01) 3)Ambidextrous Amok Marathon (2:05) 4)Schokopforte-Feat. The Caviar Cowboys (1:31) 5)Cumfilled Wonderbra (2:10) 6)Testicle Omelette Stomper (2:26) 7)Recycled Robocunt (2:00) 8)Faggot Funeral Pt.2 (2:09)
