BLOOD DUSTER INTERVIEW
BLOOD DUSTER INTERVIEW
(April 9 1999)
Interview with Janson PC from Blood Duster(Australia).
Questions were asked by myself(Pierre) through Email

First of all; when did Blood Duster start back? Were you involved in any other different bands before? What do you want to carry out with the band? How would you define your music?
blood duster started in 91 and no one in the band at that time had done any other bands back then it was just more of a concept than actual music, more fun. all blood duster was formed for was to have fun and play some crazy shit it has got more professional and shit like that but basicly the objectives are the same have fun and do whatever the fuck we want.
What can you say about "Menstrual Soup" demo? When and how did you record it? How does it sound like & What do you think about it? How many copies of it did you make? Is there any possiblity for this demo to be rereleased one day?
well the demo was recorded in 12 hours or somthing close to that it had five songs on it and was sold throughout 92 we sold 1000 copys of it and then declared it sold out as we were growing unhappy with it. at the time i thought it was great but now i think it could have been better, it doesnt have to much grind it is more mid paced for us althogh it does have some fine rock riffs that we may ripp off for later release, thats about as far as it goes release wise althogh maybe ill put some up on the b.d. website that i have planned for the near future. when i get it up and running ill have to put a link from this page then everyone reading this can have a peek.
Did you release anything else than "Menstrual Soup", "Yeest/Fisting the dead" & "Str8 outta northcorte? & What is the best BD release in your mind?
weve been on a couple compilations but as for proper releases thats about it. i think that choosing a best release for us is difficult as our releases are very different from each other, if i wanted to listen to grind id say "fisting the dead" was but if i wanted some rock id say "str8 outta northcote" its difficult, everyone has a fave for a different mood.
Where did you find the nice picture of "Yeest" cover? Did you get in trouble with censorship for this? Who came with the idea of "Str8..." cover? Who faked the photo? & Did you posed all naked?
we didnt pose naked we were in our jocks though standing in a friends lounge room. the idea for all our lyrics and concepts are mine i pride myself on the twisted things in my head. the photo was done by the guitarist in my other band "dernrutlidge".(sort of stoner rock.)
Did you start composing new tracks? Please, tell me everything about this plan of double album? Who came with this idea? Do you know what Relapse Records really think about it?
relapse dont know much about us or what were doing or anything and i think that they like it that way, they never really ask or offer advice or anything, in fact they dont really show much interest in us at all. we have started writing for the next album we have about 10 songs for the grind disc and we have plenty of ideas for the psycadelic disc. just wait and see it will be the most extreme record in both areas.
I heard a split EP was planned some times ago. (dont remember with which band). But it was cancelled. Do you remind something like that? Would you be interested in doing a split with other bands?
fisting was supposed to be a split with impetigo (gods) and the meat shits for wild rags records but after impetigo split up wild rags completly lost interest in us, not that we cared relapse came along and signed us so it didnt really matter. as for the subject of doing splits id love to do some 7' splits but we never really get offered the right band to do them with or we fuck around and never get them done!!!! we were supposed to do one with clotted symetric sexual organ from japan but nothing ever happened, although id still like to do one with them. they are a fucking great rockin band!.
I heard some tracks not released in your records on a radio show in my area. It was on a Relapse compil I think. It was a song called "Hitch hiker".  im not sure. Do you see what compil is it? Is this song available somewhere else?
the track and three others ( i think three, maybe four) and a napalm death cover of its a m.a.n.s. world were on a australian only release sounds of ordinary madness it was a good compilation of the aussie punk metal grind scene at the time but unfortunatly the label ceased and so did the albums that were on it.
What do you think of Relapse? Do you have good relationship with them? It's getting a big record company! I saw your cds for sell in some big record stores. Do you think it's a good thing? Do you know how your CDs have been selling?
i think its great that you can get our cds everywhere and it would be better if we sold more, relapse dont really tell us much in the way of anything let alone sales, im not saying that were being ripped of or anything like that its just that we dont have much comunication. not from lack of trying though. i wish that this situation could improve.
How often do you rehearse?
fuck all very rarely, we can barley stand to be in a room together at the moment, that is why we are on a break from each other. we need to be separate for a while other wise a couple of us will die. but we are not splitting up!!!!! dont get any more rumors going on, it seems like everytime we go quiet for a couple weeks people start talking shit.
How often do you play live gigs? What are your best memories from past gigs & tours? What  can we expect of a Blood Duster show? Would you like to play in Europe somedays? Do you have any upcoming live show plans?
we play live locally evry month and we do mini tours every other month interstate. my fave memories are aleways of blood duster freaks!!! like the guy who ate a beer glass in front of me while i was playing or the guy who jumped on stage last week and liked my bass all over, or when this hippie freak set our mc domalds backdrop onfire, or when we almost caused a riot when me and tony jumped into the crowd to fuck this guy up. blood duter live is chaos we do all the rock moves and shit only im always fucked up drunk i cant play live unless i am very drunk.
Do you think Brutal Truth disbanding is a big loss for the grind scene ? Do you have any idea of when will Blood Duster stop playing? It seems that grinddeath bands have most of the time a quite short lifetime. Do you see the band together in ten years?
i think brutal truth splitting up is a big fucking loss to the grind scene they were one of the very few bands who were actually nice to us, we had the chance luckily to do 2 big australian tours with them and they were nuts every night  they were a great band! blood duster will stop when i think that we are past it, i think that we have a couple good albums left in us before we get to stale and old. although in ten years i dont know we have already been around nearly ten years, 8 i think , yeah we have been around for 8 allready!!! i dont think that we will make it another 10.
What's your current line up? Some changes already happened; no? (I'm not sure). Do you think your current lineup will stay stable?
blood duster line up is the same now as it was on the last album, no changes sinse then and i dont think that there will be any more changes were pretty solid at the moment, not that we nesseraly like each other but we dont want to kick anyone out.
So how's Australia? & is there any good australian bands you can advise me? I know some cool ones like Viscera, Filth, Decomposing Serenity... know them?
you know more than me probably, i sort of stay away from the aussie scene as everyone is a fucking gossip, you say somthing to one of them and the whole world knows in five minutes, i like filth and i like viscera i also like volitile from sydney and heads kicked off from melbourne but apart from that in the grind scene i prefer to stay out. its all got to damned political, not that thats bad but i just want the music not a face full of a fucking morons opinion.
Do you know anything from french scene?
not to much of late.
What is your current records playlist? What are the bands you're really into & never bored listening to?
kyuss, queens of the stone age, frank zappa, terrorizer, brutal truth, kiss, fu manchu and old napalm. oh and i like the new blur album, noisier than most fucking metal theese days!! Korn and fear factory for example.overproduced garbage.
What movies are you really into in the band? You're probably a Peter Jackson fan? aren't you? As you often used samples for intros of your songs (Bad Taste, Braindead, Meet the feebles...). What did you think of his latest movies; Heavenly Creatures & The Frighteners?
there o.k. but not in the same way that his earlier movies are good.
Who chooses the samples for the intros? Can you name some of the movies youve taken samples from in "Str8 outta northcote"? (especially before the "Meatsong"). Coz except the one from Bad taste it was real hard for me to find all this out! And can you tell me what is the exact sentence said before "Albert", first track on Yeest?
i choose all the intros for all the stuff, i generally just write notes if somthing makes me laugh in a movie then when it comes to album time i just grab my notes and stick shit wherever it fits the song.before the meat song the sample is from a movie called P.C.U. its a great us college comedy, and the others were from peter jackson movies of from a aussie movie called bad boy bubby, if you can find it get it its fucking great!
Do you receive lots of mail from listeners? Do you answer all the mail? Did you already receive any insult letters?
i recieve shitloads but to be honest havent answered much (except email) i have to get this mail order thing up and running but i just havent had the time. and we have nt had much insult mail but heaps of stuff like " im 16 man and i dig your fast stuff" or "youse are sick man!" very whitty stuff.
Do you remember how many interviews you answered? How boring did you find my questions? Do you remember any very stupid question someone asked to you?
man i have done billions of interveiws over the years except for the last album, relapse kept fucking up the time differance and then id fuck it up, ive done maybe 6 interveiws for the last album. world wide!!! how fucked up is that. beetwen us and relapse you think we could do a little better than that!!! this int has been o.k. i have answered some stupid questions before, the best int. i ever did was for S.O.D. magazine the guy rings me, and ive allready done about 10 interveiws right before his and he starts asking me "what the line up is", so i say to him yeah thats on the bio that you have, then he asks somthing else like "what records do you have out", he knew because he had the bio sheet in front of him, any way  i answer the question then he asks another question that was writen right in front of him all the info is on the bio sheet in front of him, so i say yes thats all on the bio you dont need to ask this you allready know it, ask me somthing else and thats all he asked, then he rang the relapse press department and dobbed on me for  being un-coperative!!! he was to lazy to actually interveiw me and then bitched when i acted lazy. and he is scared to say that somthing is shit all his reveiws are a 7 or up he never says what a peice of shit album this is , i think hes scared that the companys like relapse will withdraw there advertising, but still he gave us a 7 or somthing like that so he cant be all bad.can he? ha ha.
Do you have merchandising, tshirts, posters, stickers(...) available? And good contacts where to get this shit and your records? & huh That's all. so add your last comments...
we dont have much at the moment but soon again we will, relapse is the best for supplying records, and merch is best through them it should be there soon. if you want to write you can to blood duster p.o.box 1109 nth fitzroy vic.australia.3068 or you can email me.
