Interview with Rikard Wermén.
Your new album is out for a little while now. But... Can you introduce it?
Titled "I I I", released on Listenable rec., 11 tracks are on it I guess, the best shit we have yet done under the name Deranged and everyone should take their time and check the mutha´ out!

(A) new vocalist(s) joined after Rated-X. What happened to the previous one? I heard he was occupied with the label REGAIN RECORDS..?
Well, during the time Per, which sang on everything from our demo to Rated-X was in the band, he did start up Wrong Again rec. but as you might know they split up and he formed Regain rec. We kicked him out, as he never showed up for rehearsals. Mean, he would show up like every third month or so you know… Ha, ha, ha… So we said we really had to work it out, get rid of him and find us selves a new singer and so we did. Guess he was just tired of being in a band plus he had shit to take care of with Wrong Again. I don´t know… Don´t care either. Ha, ha, ha… Anyway, got us selves a new singer and he lived like hours away so it was stupid to think that it would actually work out coz of the very long distance so… Got rid of him and found us selves yet another singer; Fredrik Sandberg and he sang on High on blood. A great singer and great musician. Unfortunately it seemed like we wanted one thing while he another in almost every god damn matter so, that didn´t work out either. Got rid of him and hooked up with Johan Anderberg and he´s doing the vocals on "I I I". The line up we´ve got now is the best and strongest Deranged line up ever!

What do you think of Deranged first demos like "Confessions of a necrophile"? Can re-issues possibly come out some day?
I hopes not. That fucking tape sucks. It´s our one and only official demo tape. There are to many shitty Deranged releases out all ready so we want to save the world from any more crap you know.

(Don't believe him, this demo is excellent)

How Mike Amott happened to play some guitar parts on "Architects of perversion"?
Mike should visit the singer we had at that time (Per) while we was recording so we just asked him if he could do some solo´s and that was it. Just a "funnny" thing. Not a big deal really…

Is something from Deranged released on vinyl? Would you be interested to do a split EP someday? Would you be interested to put an album on vinyl LP?
I personally love vinyl. I prefer vinyl, not CD! A good well-done vinyl sounds better then any CD man. We released two 7" singles back in ´93 and ´94 and Deadly Art from Germany is planning to release a double 12" LP with Rated-X, Sculpture of the dead and Architects of perversions. Repulse will release a new edition of Rated-X, also with Sculpture… and Architects… on it. We´ll also release a split 10" with Abscess on Listenable rec. sometime this year. I wishes that both High on blood and I I I will also be available on vinyl. I could write a fucking book why people would go for vinyl instead and fucking boycott the CD format. Ha, ha, ha…

What are the lyrics of your latest songs about? Can you describe some of them? Are you inspired by some movies to write them?
The "lyrics" on the new disc are all heavily based or influenced by horror / splatter movies. I always write a couple of lines while watching a nasty horror / splatter film. God damn, everything that surrounds Deranged is like based upon horror / splatter movies. Everything from the lyrics, the fucking band name, the shirt designs…you name it!!! It´s all pure fiction you know… I´ve been into the whole splatter / gore thing for ages and the lyrics pretty much reflects mainly mine big interest for that genre.

Did you see the movie called "DERANGED"?
Lots of times… It´s pretty good!

I think you toured many times? What were your biggest tours? What is your upcoming plan of tour or gig?
Considering that we´ve been around since ´92 or so we haven´t done that many gigs. Might around 100 or so all around Europe. It´s not that much, but when one has in mind that we have only worked with booking agencies like once or twice, otherwise been more or less setting up the tours us selves with an enormous help from friends around, it can might be considered OK you know. I´ve booked a lot of smaller tours myself as there haven´t been anyone doing it for us you know so… Ehm… We´re going to support Cannibal Corpse when they comes over in April. That will be cool as hell!

By the way. How are your feelings about Cannibal Corpse, their last albums etc... and in general, the whole underground scene. It's just that I was reading a G.G. Allin interview and what he said was really interesting. I quote: "in the last few years I've seen bands like GWAR, Cannibal Corpse and all these bands with fuckin' names, and they come out with all these props and fake blood and then when the show's over, they go home to their fucking suburbs, their nice cars and their pretty girlfriends and their safe lives".. (unquote) This makes me think that the whole underground is something like that in fact? All the bands use provocation and shocking stuffs like that to be remarked, but in fact, they're pretty normal people. Do you see death metal and grindcore scene in a different way? I don't know if you are the right person to ask, but I'd just like to know what you think about that?
-I`m really into Cannibal Corpse. One of the very few death metal bands that started out and got big during the early 90´s which is still really cool. The same goes for Morbid Angel... Pretty much the rest of those bands are either split up or have "wimped out". Bolt Thrower is also still cool...
GG was probably right in some matters. Mean, everyone is a fucking fake if you compare them to him. Ha, ha, ha... No, but honestly... The only thing I can answer to is the band I´m in and we have never pretended to be something we´re not you know... The same pretty much goes for alot of other death metal bands. The thing is all those black metal bands man... Guess you know what I mean?

What contacts do you have with other swedish bands? How is the scene around there??
There are needless to say lots of bands from Sweden and lately have a lot of new really cool bands been popping up here. Defaced Creation, Kaamos, Insision, Divine Desecration, Immersed in blood and Soils of fate just to mention a few. All really cool and brutal acts. No shit! You should check them out!

What can you say about Murder Corporation? It sounds awesome. What does this band have out?
-So far, two mini CD´s and one full length. We´re going to release 4 CD´s this year, all on Psychic Scream. One full length with lots of tracks that should have been on 7" singles and the likes but screwed up, all in all 17 tracks, one brand new full length, a split CD with Grind Buto and another split CD with Severed Limbs. It´ll be cool to finally have some new fresh releases out with Murder Corp. you know.

Do you remember what bands made you want to be involved in the "underground" scene? Do you have mentors, fetish bands or stuffs like that. And finally, do u like 80's grindcore bands like early Napalm Death on "Scum"/"F.E.T.O.", Carcass on "Reek of putrefaction", Repulsion & Terrorizer?
-The underground scene? When I first heard Napalm Death, Carcass and so on I asn´t aware of the fact that there was something called "underground" and what it was. I got involved in the whole underground thing much later, might around ´90 or ´91 and if I remember things correct the first demo tape I bought was the Nihilist "Drowned" tape. Still, the bands that got me into the whole death metal thing was indeed Napalm Death you know... I still consider "Scum" to be one of the best CD´s ever!!!

I've heard that you had made a video clip in the past? It's even be shown on TV. What title was it, and how was this video? Was it easy to do, usually lots of money are needed to do videos. Would you like to do it again? And what about a live video or something like that, it would be a good idea no?
-We´ve done two clips and they look ten times more expensive then what they actually cost. Ha, ha, ha... The first got some really cool air play, MTV, VIVA, Z-TV here in Sweden etc. etc. The second also got some air play but the whole sitaution had changed alot since we did the first clip. When we did the first clip there was actually places which could show death metal videos but as said, when we did the second MTV had quit their Into the pit, Z-TV their Hardrock and shit so... You know, if you ask me, clips are just promotion. I pretty much see them like an ad. if you know what I mean? If it´ll be places to show death metal clips again I would like to do more clips but right now it would be just waste of money. Anyway, video clips are not a big deal...

That's all. And here is the conclusion. If you have something to say to your fans & G n' G webzine readers, it would be great if you say it just right now:
Thanx as hell to you Pierre for the interview. Keep it sick and all that! Check out our new CD! It´s might possible we´ll do some shows in France around April!
