Questions to Jayde/Viscera. (August 24 2001)

Hi! What's up? Everything's fine? (I didn't care for manners at all in my last couple of interviews, so I'm just trying to compensate here, very sorry!)
Ay Pierre. Manners are overrated. Fuck manners and fuck people. Everything is rosy.

Viscera, Viscera... Why did you start that? Did you play in other bands before? Who's involved in Viscera with you?
I started it with the intention of playing music that I wanted to listen to. Very few bands at the time were catering to my tastes (circa 1994) so action needed to be taken. It's also an outlet for my penchant for extremity and my sense of humour. I played in no other bands prior to VISCERA and I am the only surviving member.

You didn't have alot of stuff out lately, but there's a new split Ep planned? How does Viscera sound on it, still easy-listening pop? What band will be sharing the record with Viscera?
That is correct, there has been no VISCERA release since the split 7" with VOMIT SPAWN some 2-3 years ago. I have been living in the England for 2 of those years so it's been both difficult and frustrating. Nevertheless, I have continued over this period to write new songs in preparation for the split EP you mentioned. I'll record for this split and another in the next few months for release in early 2002. The new material is more of a throwback to out Country roots, with a bit of Acid Jazz and a slight hint of THC. On the new releases I'll be backed by a symphony orchestra, just to add a bit more pomp and splendour to my already massively overinflated ego. The bands I'll be splitting with have requested that their identities be withheld, for fear of receiving a savage beating from the moral guardians of the underground.

I think you're pretty close to Decomposing Serenity. You're both into raw grind. You're both from Australia. I'm not sure that's a question. Whatever. What's up? Did I ask that already? Oh well... Let me think of something. Ok right! What's up with the whole porn thing?! What are you, some kind of sick pervert?!!! Have you ever heard about human dignity?
No- rather it's an observation. Observations are subjective. What's up? - The hot wind you're blowing up my clacker. Of course I've heard of human dignity. If I didn't I wouldn't derive so much pleasure from seeing it crushed so easily. Hence the porn imagery. It's just such an obvious, in -your-face tactic to get a rise out of people, to offend, to cause grief, anger, hostility toward me. In the context of VISCERA, this imagery is often used in conjuction with acts of extreme violence which is even more shocking to some. Fact is- it's a violent world and naivete is for the weak. So no- I'm not a pervert, just someone who has a more realistic approach to life.

Your stuff sounds fucking raw!!! How do you record your noise? Do you piss on the tapes after you recorded the stuff or what?
Yes its raw- but often this is not through choice, more circumstance. Still, It's pleasing for me to listen to. The way in which all previous VISCERA releases were recorded has varied from release to release. It just comes out that way. The new split EPs will have a much improved sound as I will be taking a different approach to recording this time around.

First time I heard Viscera was on Comp. Tape "Tribute to Go Nagai" put out by a french guy. The song was "Dollop of Cum". Remember that? Have you appeared on other compilations?
Right- Give me that guy's address. I don't even have a copy of that Comp and VISCERA is on it? That is infuriating. To the guy who released this- send me a copy now or discipline will have to be enforced. On a positive- you heard of VISCERA on there so maybe I should thank him. It will depend on my mood. Who the fuck knows what other compilations I'm on then. I've got a bunch of
EPs and tapes here, but I will hunt the perpetrators down if there are others.

Most Viscera releases are Split Eps. You had some demo tapes out too, what can you say about them? How do you see Viscera's future; more Split Eps?
I can say that I am proud to have been involved with every single one of our previous releases, irrespective of the final product. All the tapes are sold out except for the VISCERA- Live Tape (limited to 100) of which there are 20 left. The splits with PURULENT SPERMCANAL and DECOMPOSING SERENITY are sold out. Only the Split with VOMIT SPAWN is still available.

What's the coolest Viscera stuff out in your mind?
They're all different so it's a difficult one, but I'd have to say the split with DECOMPOSING SERENITY as it's relentless from start to finish.

You're also doing a zine, Evil Semen. Wanna talk about it? Doing a zine recquires great enthusiasm for the underground right? What's your fave bands/records right now?
I am indeed. Issue #1 was released when I was living in England. This issue features IMPETIGO, REGURGITATE, DECOMPOSING SERENITY, IRONIA, CABAL, GREEN BERET and others and is still available from me for $3 US post paid. It's a lot of work and there are always problems but I love doing it and will continue long into the future. Whilst it requires enthusiasm- my enthusiasm
for this genre of music (and music in general) seems limitless. I'll release issue #2 at the end of October all going well. As for my favorite bands/ records right now, off the top of my cranium....THE
BREEDERS- All!, GODFLESH- Streetcleaner, GOREROTTED's new CD, LIBIDO AIRBAG- All!!, GREEN BERET- All, HELLNATION, REINFECTION...The more I think of the more there are.

Ok, that's about everything I could come up with! I think it's the moment where I say: Do you have any closing comment?
Thanks Pierre and congrats on your webzine. It really is an essential source of info. Anyone wanting to obtain VISCERA releases or a copy of Evil Semen simply get in touch.......
