Q & A with Rob of australian grindcore band The Kill. (June/July 2002)
[The band found a new vocalist called Tony since the interviewing...]

Braindead: So... The Kill, the band name. Is that a reference to the Napalm Death song or just a coincidence?

Rob: Yes! Its too hard trying to think of a brutal band name these days. Everyone's used em all.. In our next release on 625 productions and No Escape Records, we cover the Napalm Track.....THE KILL

Braindead: 2-3 words to describe The Kill?

Rob: Blast Grind....

Braindead: What can you say about Openwound? What did the band split? Did it sound like The Kill?

Rob: Open Wound was a little more hardcore. Constant changes etc.... The kill is more straight out and aggressive. Open Wound split because thier was too much conflict. We just had to stop before we all killed each other. It sucked because we did'nt record all our latest material in studio and it was the best shit we wrote. Though the songs are being released through No Escape shortly as bonus trax on the discography cd. The sound aint the best, due to them songs being rehersal trax recorded through a single micraphone.

Braindead: I hear you're looking for a new vocalist? What was wrong with the last one?

Rob: His was exactly what we wanted. Due to personal problems it had to be that way and it sux. The last thing we want is to look for someone new. But fuck, we have no choice.

Braindead: Did you get some reactions from grindheads about the demo/split 7"s you've put out so far?

Rob: We only released 100 copies of the demo and they sold straight away, mostly in Australia. So The Kill is yet to be spread through out. The 4way is selling realy well at the moment ive been told by Dry Retch. Since i finally got a computer in May this year, Developed a site and e-mail address, the response has been sick! Thanx to you and many others.

Braindead: What can we expect from the upcoming full-length Mcd on No Escape Recs? All new tracks or is it the tracks on the demo?

Rob: More Blast!!!!!!!!!!! Mostly all new tracks. Faster songs and alot clearer.

Braindead: Is it just me or the austrialian grind scene is getting bigger and better recently? Fuck.. I'm Dead, The Kill, Kutabare (Undinism)... Are there any other of these neat australian grind bands to look for?

Rob: Slowly its developing once again. Other than the bands you listed, The only two bands that come to mind are: VAGINAL CARNAGE- Gore Grind that will tear you apart. Picture a faster version of GUT. Also a new kick arse FUCK IM DEAD side project with no name yet! In the
vein of CBT....... Their are also a few blast hardcore bands starting in other Aussie states that i have to find more about. Mostly all influenced by Discordance Axis.
Though theirs never enough GRIND here!!!!

Braindead: Australian grind bands seem to to be all for playing live while many other grind bands are usually pretty reluctant (Nasum, Regurgitate..) Am I wrong? Do you consider The Kill to be a good live band?

Rob: Yea! Most grind bands play live here, Except FILTH. Ive never seen em! With out being full of myself, The Kill live is hard for me to quote since ive never been in the crowd to experience it. Though going by other peoples feedback and watching gigs on tape. We get a brutal response and put on a pissed, bloodfilled performance. Neil screams his head off, Cutting himself up. Jay's fuming and bashing his kit,
and im usually too blind and cant stay on the stage....

Braindead: Any top 5 grindcore releases?

Rob: REGURGITATE-all
RETALIATION-all
KALIBAS-all
ANAL CUNT-all (especially the last 3 ep's)
FUCK IM DEAD-all

In no order........

Braindead: And that's all I've got. Any last comment?

Rob: Thanx for the interview Pierre,
BRAINDEAD kicks arse..............
