 Can you introduce RNA band members? Who does what and what other side projects/bands did you belong to before & now?
First of all hello from shitty greece..The band members are maourass(drums/vox), barbass(bass/vox) and malliass(guitars/vox).Maourass is playing also in melanocetus murrayi(harsh noise grind), go filth go(noise d-beat), phineas gage(fast hardcore), filthy noise anthrope(harsh noise gore), gore gallore(gore grind), filthy stench shit(noisecore), terrorismo musical (crust grind), alcoholic birth(gore grind). Barbass was playing also with march into the void(black crust) and Malliass was playing with terrorismo musical, fleshmangler (gore grind), symfora(fun core), alcoholic birth and gore galore…It is obvious that here in thessaloniki we don't have a lot of things to do so we are musically gang banging to get out of our serious monotony…hehe...
When and why did you first start this band? What are you trying to achieve with it?! How would you describe your style?
We started rehearsing in january 2011 to play some good old school grind in the vein of 80's..We just want to make some noise first of all for us and for everyone else that digs early napalm death,warsore and gore beyond necropsy…We are all in the diy scene a lot of years.We are in it for the blast-pleasure,we hate profits and the band can be fucked only by us..aahahhahaha There is only one phrase to describe our style..epileptic ape noise!!!…..
Where did the name Raw Noise Apes come from? Niels from CSMD/No Fucking Label usually calls himself Noiseape around forums. Is he a friend? An influence?
It came out of nothing puked from the innards of three nihilistic drunkards, stuck in the suburbs of thessaloniki , meaningless,autistic,pointing their fingers in the very tight anus of the universe.
Niels is a friend of maouras a lot of years..but this has nothing to do with the name of the band.
How and when did you first get into this grindcore nonsense originally? What are your influences now? Do you all have the same tastes in the band?
We are obsessed with this nonsense…It's been a lot of years since we started exploring the tender parts of a smelly carcass called grind.Our influences are : current 93,neurosis,madonna,lady gaga,elton john,milli vainili,new kids on my cock, and all the tasty flavors of pure nothingness.
Are influences are :fasolada,giros and retsina.1 maourass's favorite food(smelly stench of putrefaction…oups i just farted a tiny part of greasy bowel), 2 giros :meaning of life for barbass and malliass(sometime he like his chicken fat and raw) 3-retsina:our rare and pure piss of never-ending braindamage.
Our tastes are too similar with each other as far grind and extreme music general…now all of as hear some other music too..this bands are:black sabbath,ac/dc,motorhead,electric wizard,antaeus,and 1.000.000 bands more...
Your sound is one of the best emulation of the Gore Beyond Necropsy sound (with ENTROPIC DEGRADE... maybe too) Do you have any recording tips on how to achieve such a filthy and heavy sound? I love the drum sound too! What gear do you use? How do you record this stuff? What kind of place do you rehearse/play in?
Our recording was a one take live rehearsal..the vocals were added after with no lyrics as you have noticed and most of them were composed at the time of the recording.The drums were a simple kit,cymbals were the cheapest you can find but the noisiest too,but the real good tip is hayato's oldscholl method of drumming.The guitar is a 10 years old washburn plastic replica bought from our neighborhood's grocery store…What can we say about the bass…barbass farted and let there be apocalypse!!! We rehearse in a cheap studio and sometimes in the gig squat we take part in.
Our 1st recording has been done in the studio as a rehearsal..We 'll see what we will do in the near future...
You only have this one demo out for now? When did it come out? Are you planning anything else soon? What do you want to do next? Split releases, vinyl releases, more demos?
Yes this is our first demo.It came out in july 2011.We want to rehearse a lot for the moment,we have a lot of tracks in mind.We are planing to rerecord the demo tracks plus some new ..We want to make some split vinyls with similar apes..
What can you say about Greece? People usually think it's a beautiful country! But what's your insider opinion? Any words on greek grind bands? Do you know alot of people into grind in Greece? Are you friends with Angelos from Autophagia, do you know what he's up to? (I think your sound is a little bit like Autophagia sometimes too!!!)
Most people think it is a beautiful and a cool place to live…but the truth is far beyond this…The politics are corrupted and life is really devastated…There aren't a lot of grind bands here…Most of them are inactive and other have disbanded..Some bands are : Cut your throat, Devastation of life, Decomposing vomit, Slavebreed, Progress of inhumanity and Kvazar. About Aggelos/Autophagia we've been known each other for some years…We don't really know if he's up to something for the moment...
You did at least one live gig according to your site... How did it go? How did people react? Are you at ease performing live? Are you eager to do more?
Ha…Our first live was in front of 6 dirty geeks shouting our name during our 6 second performance.Accidently we got raped on stage.The little fuckers stoped only when we played our favorite cover ''rape me''by Nirvana…ahahahahha..We want to make a street performance based in 120 days in Sodoma.By the way our first live was at a dig fest…We couldn't hear nothing at all..So we played as fast and as shitty as we could..Maybe we will organize an astral gang bang someday,somehow….
How often do you attend live shows personally? Do alot of bands tour in Greece? What's the last live band you really enjoyed?
Not so often..They are not to many grind bands here.We want to play whenever a grind band comes to thessaloniki or here in Greece, which is 1 or 2 times per year.We enjoyed the archagathus live very much in july 2010…Here are some of the bands that played here:Bloody Phoenix, Archagathus, Magrudergrind, Lycanthrophy, Gride, Malignant tumor, Vomit for Breakfast…
