Interview with Erwin of Last Days of Humanity/SMES (November 2004)

The new LDOH release seems to be antipated by alot of people. You mentionned to me something like the new songs would crush everybody! What else can you say about this Mcd? How many tracks will there be on it? What approximate release date can we expect? Anything else planned besides this Mcd?

-The mcd will be released by BONES BRIGADE, and it will have 10 tracks.
I hope it will be out late this year, or early next year.
Also a few days ago the split picture disc with LYMPHATIC PHLEGM was released by BLACK HOLE PROD.
Now we are working on new songs first.

LDOH almost seems to be one of the most well-liked goregrind bands around today, what do you think about that? Does that seem that way to you or do you get some negative reactions too?

-Well, we usualy get great reactions.
Thats very nice if people let us know they like what we do.
Its hardly ever a bad reaction that we get.
Sometimes people say the sound of the live cd is not good orso, but I think its ok if they think this.
They have their own opinion.

The band's line-up has changed alot along the years... What do you think of the current one? Does it seem stable to you right now?

-Yeah, I think LDOH more sticks to the music they make then to the line-up we have.
Well, all the changes were just ways of life.
And I think in the time that LDOH is existing now, it would be hard to hold on to the line-up from the beginning.
I think its more important the bandname stands for the music, instead of the people thats behind it.

How often and where do you rehearse? Who writes the songs?

We try to rehearse every week, and usualy Marc and William make the songs, and some songs we make all together.

How would you describe LDOH live gigs? Your next gig is the Gorecity fest in Holland... Do you plan to tour a little after your Mcd is released?

-We make a brutal wall of sound and we try to crush the people with our sick tunes.
Yeah, we are looking forward to Gorecity, great bands are showing up there.
We are working on the full length cd before we want to do some more gigs, so maybe after this we will do a tour orso.

Whose idea was it to do the live cd? It's actually pretty rare for grind bands to release an entire live show as a full length album... Were you satisfied with the way it came out? Some people complained they wanted a real album instead! Anyway, I think the layout for this release is the best ever ona LDOH release... Will you work again with Fernando (Black Hole Productions) for the next release?

-Well we came up with the idea to make a live cd ourselves.
I understand some people would rather have new stuff.
But with line-up changes and other things that came up, we had the choice to do nothing, or the live cd.
Also because many people asked us to play live, and we had to say no some times...
Yes, Fernando did a very fine job at the art.
He also did the art on the split picture lp, and its great again.
He is the artmaster indeed!
For future releases we will probably ask him again to do some of his magic.

You once told me there were rumors of Last Days of Humanity being a racist band... Where did you ever hear about this? Have you heard any other weird rumors since?

-Yeah, it develops sometimes in strange ways.
Its been done that people saw somebody who is a racist wearing a LDOH shirt, and then they write us asking if we are racist.
We are just a band, that make goregrind, and have no political influences or something like that.

What's the news on your one-man band SMES? Any stuff coming up?

-With SMES there was a great shirt released bu PIGSHED PROD. and Im working on new songs right now.
There will be a full length cd, and a split cd with LIBIDO AIRBAG.
Im looking forward to these releases, it should be cool!

What's your opinion on the scene from Netherlands? Which dutch bands do you consider close friends to Last Days of Humanity? Which dutch bands do you think deserve some attention, etc...

-The scene here is nice.
There are nice bands, some zines and so on, but I think here it is a bit without borders.
We are friends with GRONIBARD and ABORTED, and many other bands, in this scene we see a lot of bands on different gigs, and then you get to know eachother very well.

What's your current music & movie playlist?

-For me personal I like the BLOODFREAK cd a lot.
I got this a while ago, and its cool oldtimer stuff hehe.
I listen a lot of different gore stuff.
With movies Im now trying to get some ILSA movies, they are cult stuff!

Ok, that's all, thanks for going through all of this... Any last comment?

-Yes Pierre thanx for your interview and support, and to all fans I would suggest they get the new LDOH stuff and check it out!
And further on, houdoe en bedankt, THANX!!
