Luisma,
please tell everybody what HAEMORRHAGE has been up to lately.
I know you're working on the songs for the split CD with
IMPALED. How is that coming along? Can you tell everybody
about what the songs will be about, and some new titles?
Any ideas for artwork yet? Are you working on any other
new releases?
Luisma:
Well as you said we are writting the songs for the split
CD with Impaled, and it's being a very hard way as we have
to write songs about things that >we never wrote about
before..things like madness, torture, and things like that...the
music has to fit in the music, so it's a different kind
of work...complex and more twisted. The only song that has
a title is "Slaved to Dismember", I don't want
to give many details about this release as it's still "in
the kitchen". As they same time we keep on writting
and rehearsing other new songs in our old way, and these
songs really flow from our brains naturally, as it's the
same shit we always did...don't expect stuff like "Morgue
Sweet Home"...We are going back to our deeper roots...I
mean filthy, gory and straight GRIND GORE. But I guess our
next release will be a video/DVD...we will shoot a video-clip
as soon as we get a good location.
"Morgue
Sweet Home" came out a few months ago and I feel it's
one of the best albums from HAEMORRHAGE yet. I think I heard
some people saying it wasn't as good as "Grume",
but for me I think the band gets better and better on every
release you do! The new album has kind of a more "old-school"
death
metal sound, rather than just "grind-gore", what
do you think? Also, I have to say I prefer the artwork on
the picture disc than the actual CD cover. Are you happy
with the new album?
Luisma:
Yes, for me "Morgue..." is a very complete album...it
has a lot of work and intention in every song...other albums
came-up naturally, spontaneous, but "Morgue.."
was perniciously designed. We wanted to keep our roots and
style...perhaps the death metal influences are more evident
that ever before but we have never hidden our predilection
for cult-bands like Autopsy, Carnage, Nihilist...in the
other hand it's a very fast and grinding album, but we know
as long as we keep on releasing album people will say the
old ones are better and things like that, but this doesn't
>mean too much for us as we play the music we like, and
we like to include some variations in each new release...keeping
our style... About the cover you can see all our cover albums
are photos not paintings,
so......
The
lyrics for HAEMORRHAGE have changed over the years. It seems
that you're writing more short little "horror stories"
and I like that much more.
It's more creative and original I think, it makes me feel
like I'm reading some kind of old classic horror comic book
or something. It definitely reminds me of the old days when
IMPETIGO and REPULSION wrote those cool lyrics about horror
and gore subjects, even early DEATH and AUTOPSY! Tell us
about your lyrics and why you like writing in this style.
Luisma:
Yes, you're right...As I said it's very boring to do
all the time the same things, the same music, the same kind
of lyrics...After two albums I got bored of only sickness
and pathological lyrics all the time...I needed anything
else, so I started to write a concept album "Anatomical
Inferno" and then I wrote a kind of "Anatomical...(part
2)" and it was "Morgue Sweet Home"...the
same kind of stories, words, concepts...It was really funny
but now it's time to change again...I really enjoy writtng
about pathological stuff...I wipped out the dust from my
old medical books!!!
You
recently did a tour with CRYPTOPSY in Europe. How did this
go? Were the guys in CRYPTOPSY cool guys? What did they
think of your music? Is there
going to be another tour in 2003? I heard you guys might
make it to America, is this true?
Luisma:
Yeah, we were playing 23 shows in Europe with Crytopsy,
Profanity and Spawn, and we are totally satisfied with that
as the whole tour was really
great!! The guys of Cryptopsy are very talented and professional,
we learnt a lot from them...I don't know what they think
about our music as they don't know what we think about their
music...it doesn't matter... We only listened to Slayer,
Death, Destruction, Testament...all togheter when we were
in the tour-bus parties! And it was funny...that the most
important thing!
I really hope to play in the states...it's our biggest plan
for 2003... I hope the guys from Morbid Records look a good
tour for us...at least I would
like to play at the Ohio Death fest or something like that.
What
are some newer bands that you've heard lately that you recommend?
Any new albums you've picked up that you've liked, or do
you mostly just listen to a lot of the older stuff? I think
2002 has been a GREAT year for grind/death metal, with the
new HAEMORRHAGE album, and also the new albums from IMPALED,
ENGORGED, etc!!
Luisma:
Well I think it's not fair to say this as you're the interviewer
but many of the best releases of 2002 were relased on Razorback...Gruesome
Stuff
Relish, Machetazo, Birdflesh...you released great stuff
(thanks, I appreciate tha! -Billy)...
I liked Rompeprop from Holland, the new Lock-up (Terrorizer
2), Pig Destroyer and also the new Vomitory, the new one
from Misfits and more stuff I don't remember now.
Were
you guys happy with the IMPETIGO tribute release? Everybody
really loved the artwork you did for the front cover and
I think it's some of your best work ever! Are you going
to do any artwork for the split CD with IMPALED? Are there
any other art projects you're working on for other bands
or releases?
Luisma:
Thanks a lot! I'm happy if people liked it... I tried to
do my best for a band as Impetigo. I don't know if I can
do a cover for the split with Impaled...let's wait if I
have some new idea...It has to be different that a current
Haemorrhage or Impaled release. We have to look for something
different. Something wicked...
Tell
us about the split 7" with WTN from Singapore. What
are the songs on this release, live songs? What do you think
of WTN?
Luisma:
No, they are studio-songs...one from the album (Mortuary
Riot) a cover version (Dead Infection), and a unreleased
song (Postnecrotical Slaughter).
WTN are Sick and cool guys!!
The
HAEMORRHAGE web site looks awesome, are you happy with the
way it looks? It's one of my favorite band sites on the
internet I think. Looks like this interview will also be
added to it!
Luisma:
Yes of course...I love the work of Pierre. We are a
band with a lot of atrwork, bizarre pics, etc...and he knows
how to combine everything perfectly creating something sick
and beautiful as well as perfectly designed...I invite everyone
to take a look on it!
HAEMORRHAGE
has now been around for many years, and it doesn't look
like it's ever going to stop which is great. How long do
you think you'll keep doing this? Does it ever get boring
for you? How many more albums and releases would you like
to do?
Luisma:
I don't know how long it will last but we still enjoy
what we do and we have new projects in mind, so we still
love Haemorrhage. Our motive with
Haemorrhage is "No future" like Punks!
Please
give me your thoughts on the following bands: 1.Repulsion
2.Impaled 3.Ghoul 4.Cryptic Slaughter 5.Exhumed
Luisma:
1.Repulsion-It was totally nasty, sick, insane, and intense...I
bought their album cause it was released by Necrosis Records
( the labels of
Carcass guys) and it was killer!!! I still worship that
LP!!!
2.Impaled-The worst band on this planet! The Vocals are
a mix of Ozzy Osbourne and Shakira...they're awesome..you
all must check it out!
3.Ghoul-Their first album is cool, but their label is bullshit!
ha, ha...
4.Cryptic Slaughter-Cult band! I play their LPs and it's
still extreme. I laugh at people who thinks Bathory and
Venom was the most extreme bands in
83-84 when I listen C.S.
5.Exhumed-They are great! We played with them in Obscene
fest and they were the best band there...Anyway I miss the
sick voice of Ross...
What
kind of movies do you all like? Horror? Sci fi? Have you
checked out any DVD releases? I'm a huge fan of Spanish
horror cinema, the "Blind Dead"
films and all the old Paul Naschy films are excellent. All
are very gory, atmospheric, and also very sleazy! Are you
into this kind of stuff?
Luisma:
Yes I like Horror, Gore, Splatter and all bizarre movies,
but too say the truth I don't watch movies now...I'm totally
busy with Haemorrhage, my job
and my dog, so I just watch football and things like that...Anyway
I enjoy also another knid of commercial stuff like "The
Lord of the Rings"...I'm a
wimp!
Do
you think there is a future for grind/gore/death metal type
of music? Is it going to ever stop, or just get really boring
you think? I think if it wasn't for bands like HAEMORRHAGE
I would have given up on this music, your band really helps
keep this alive for me and I hope it keeps going!
Luisma:
For Grind Gore I say the same than I said before "No
future"...I can not imagine myself listening to new
Grind Gore bands in 2002...but I'm sure I
will love this music forever so as long as I live Grind
Gore will be alive (at least in my heart!)
I
really love the Spanish death/grind bands of today, there's
so many great ones and I hope more to come! What do you
think of the following bands: MACHETAZO, GRUESOME STUFF
RELISH, TU CARNE, and REPUGNANCE? Any other cool bands you'd
like to mention? Somebody should make a Spanish grind/death
CD compilaiton I think!
Luisma:
Yes, some people say"The New Wave of Spanish Grind
Gore"...All those bands are among my favourites...No
patriotism or bullshit. When we started we were the only
band into pure Grind Gore ( There was also Necrotic-cool
band!) and now I'm really happy to see all this great bands!
For me Spain
has some of the greatest band s of the moment! ha, ha...have
you listened to Rosendo? Obus??? El Fary???
Those
are all my questions! Thanks for answering them Luisma,
and for being one of the coolest guys in the underground
ever! I'll keep supporting HAEMORRHAGE forever. Any final
comments?
Luisma:
Thanks a lot for this interview, you support during
the years and I hope to meet you if we play in the states
someday! STAY SICK!!!!!!
