Here's a neat Q&A with Pablo. He's playing in spanish horror grind bands Gruesome Stuff Relish, Repugnance and runs Motosierra Records... Brief, he really has alot of stuff going on. I tried to ask questions about both bands... (August 3 2001)
Sorry for the Cannibal Ferox pictures ornating the page, it's just because Pablo picked it as his fave horror movie, and I have no band pictures... I didn't find any pictures from the brain-eating scene though, very sorry!

What's the difference between Repugnance & Gruesome Stuff Relish? Why did you start Gruesome Stuff Relish and what's up with Repugnance?
Ohh!!! What a hard starting !!! Well, I think the main diference between both bands is that Gruesome... is more Gore than Repugnance. The GSR stuff is totally Goregrind in the early Carcass way and Repugnance are more into old school Death/Grind, something like Repulsion, Impetigo or Pungent Stench with a bit of Rockīnīroll feeling on some guitar riffs. I donīt know... maybe Repugnance could be more original and Gruesome Stuff Relish more....straight-ahead and savage.
I started Gruesome Stuff Relish a year and a half ago just becouse Noel and Iīve been good friends from long time, we both like the same kind of music and we had never played together so we really wanted to stay together in a band (now heīs also playing bass in Repugnance). We started just like a two men band, I played drums, Noel guitar and bass and we all sung. With this line-up we recorded the split CD and the upcoming 7" but now we have a new member, Santi, playing guitar and I think weīll play live soon. When we started we didnīt want to play live but now I think weīll try to do it as soon as we can.
The news about Repugnance are that weīve just recorded the tracks for the 7" with Blood Duster and a cover for the RGTE tribute, also weīre gonna record some new tracks for a split CD with Flesh Grinder that will be out on Bizarre Leprous and fall this year our full CD for Uxicon.

I feel like you tried to recreate the ambience of Carcass era "Reek of Putrefaction" with Gruesome Stuff Relish... Am I wrong?
Hey man, you arenīt wrong at all. We all love the raw sound of early Carcass and we are 100% into this. But not only Carcass is an influence for us, I think we donīt sound quite diferent from General Surgery, Necrony or Dead Infection.

Can you say something about Gruesome new Ep "Last Men Alive? Is it gonna be on vinyl and cd? Why is it out on Uxicon?
"Last men alive" must be out next month (August 2001) on the belgian label Uxicon records. It has 13 new tracks recorded at the beginning of this year on my own recording studio, Dirty Recording. I think itīll be release as 7" and CD-S.
We choose Uxicon records for releasing this just becouse I know Burt from long time and I think heīs a cool guy and his label is also so cool, I think he did a good work with the Repugnanceīs "Maximum perversum" MCD so we liked to release something on this label. He offered us to release our first recording (the stuff on the "Brothers in gore" split CD) as 7" but when he did this offer we were already in deals with Bizarre Leprous.

You also run the label Motosierra Records. Is there really gonna be a Blood Duster/Repugnance Split 7"? Any other plans? Will you release any of GSR & Repugnance future releases on it?
Yeah, Iīm just starting with the label with another Repugnance member as a partner, Segio the guitar player. At the moment we have only released the MCD of the finnish sickos Morbid Savouring "Autopsy lust". It came out early july 2001 after some troubles with the censorship, we tried to make it on a factory in Germany but we couldnīt because they didnīt want to press a CD with this kind of sick lyrics so this way the release was delayed 2 months. Now itīs out and I think everybody should check out this band !!! They play raw and catchy Goregrind very influenced by Regurgitate, Dead Infection and Impetigo but also by old-Death/Grind freaks like Funebre or Xysma. This will be also printed on a vinyl edition by the german label Stuhlgang, I canīt say for sure when itīll be out but itīll be released.
Iīll try to release the Repugnance/Blood Duster 7" as soon as we get enough money, I spoke with Jason of Blood Duster a few times and he said they really wanna do the release. I know they have a live recording ready to press, so this could be their side. The Repugnance side is already recorded, weīve recorded 2 new tracks and a cover of Pungent Stenchīs "extreme deformity". I hope this can be out before this yearīs end. Now we are in the process of promotion/distribution the Morbid Savouring MCD and all what we have planned is to do a mailorder catalogue after summer, also we have in mind to do a little sampler with some of the stuff we have for sale in the catalogue, maybe in colaboration with a spanish newsletter called Pathologically Explicit. As I said before weīll press the Repugnance split 7", but by the moment we havenīt planned any other release from any of my bands on Motosierra records. Both bands are signed with other labels, Repugnance with Uxicon and Gruesome with Razorback so I think these labels have more experience than we have and, for the bands, should be better this way.

Are you happy the way the Brutality Reigns Supreme/Gruesome Stuff Relish Split Cd came out? Did you have some response from grindfreaks about Gruesome yet? What do you think of Brutality Reigns Supreme?
Well, the CD came out with more than 6 month delay, but I know Roman from Bizarre Leprous had some money troubles so I can understand this delay. All the way itīs already out and I just have to say good words about the label. He let me do all the layout and I think I did it the way I liked, very much into Horror/Zombie Comic style. Also I know heīs sending a lot of promo CDīs to īzines, webzines... Good label work!!!
I think we are getting great reviews from all the grinding underground and a lot of people is writing to us and showing their interest on our band so we have to be really happy with the response of everybody.
I like Brutality Reigns Supreme a lot, I have all their stuff and I think this recording is their best, it sounds really better than their full CD or their tracks on the 6-way split CD, the guitar sound is more powerfull and tight now.

Repugnance have been in activity for quite a long time, but you didn't release that much stuffs. Is it any more serious now than it's been before?
Yeah, I think we are a more serious band now, we are playing together since 1991 but we havenīt released too much stuff on our early days and what we released was rarely distributed out of Spain. We were a bit lazy, and also between 96 to 98/99 we didnīt do anything. But after we recorded our promo ī99 (the "maximum perversum" recording session) we came back to the underground and we tried to do it more serious and "professional". Repugnace is a band that really likes to play live so weīve always tried to play as much as possible.
Last year we were touring Belgium and we played on the Wee Levat Festival with bands like Sanityīs Dawn, Agathocles, Ingrowing, Last Days of Humanity or Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, then we did 3 gigs more also in Belgium. It was fucking great to play with all those people and meet some more nice grind freaks, that was the first time we played out of Spain.
This year we played in the Repulsive Festival with Disgorge (mex.), Sanatorium, etc... and on the Steel Warriors Rebellion in Portugal with Avulsed, Undertakes, Groinchurn and many more. Maybe next year, after releasing our full CD, weīll do another tour all over europe.

Spain nowadays seem to have better bands and labels than ever... Machetazo, Haemorrhage, Ironia, Denak, Upground, Fleshfeast... Are you in touch with all these wonderful people? Are there any talented bands from your country who are unjustly ignored in your mind?
Of Course, there are more labels and bands than never and some of them are well known and considered outside Spain. The spanish scene is on their best moment without doubt. Years ago only Haemorrhage were releasing stuff and playing live out of our country but now Machetazo, Denak... and many others are doing good things.
Iīm in contact with some of the people you ask, I meet the Machetazo guys and use to write with Mike of Fleshfeast, Iņaki of Upground/Denak... There are more labels, bands and īzines. The guy of Goremanía records, who put out time ago the Fermentoīs debut CD, has now another new label called Hecatombe Records and heīs gonna release some CDīs. One of the bands heīs gonna put out their stuff is Tu Carne. I think this is a cool and interesting band, not very known out of Spain yet but in their way to be more and more. They play not-too-fast but very very sick Goregrind with short tracks and lots of funny intros, I think they could sound very close to Gut, Utopie or CBT.

I assume you're a horror fan... Can you pick one unique ultimately favorite movie of yours? If possible, explaining why, and maybe describe your favorite scene out of it. Can you remember what got you into horror in the first place?
Maybe my favourite horror movie could be Canibal Ferox, I saw this movie when I was only 10 years old or so, I saw it at home on video with my parents and I got really crazy with alI I was watching. If I have to pick my fave scene of this movie Iīd just take when the cannibals put the guy on his kness under a table with a hole in the upside so that he puts his head in the hole. He has a bar under his chin in order to keep his head hold. After that, they slice his head cover and they start eating their brain. REALLY SICK !!!!

What's your current playlist, favorite new bands etc...?
My all-the-time fave albums are:
Carcass - Reek of putrefaction
General Surgery - Necrologies
Brutal Truth - Extreme conditions...
Impetigo - Ultimo mondo cannibale
Repulsion - Horrified
Pungent Stench - Split with Disharmonic Orchestra
Napalm Death - From enslavement to obliteration
Terrorizer - World downfall
Heamorrhage - Grume
Regurgitate - Effortless regurgitation...

But the stuff I listen most these days is:
Sanityīs Dawn - Chop chopper
Engorged - Death metal attack II
Morbid Savouring - Autopsy lust
Regurgitate - Carnivorous erection
Wizards of Gore
Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition - CD
Gronibard - CD

Is there possibly gonna be a website for Repugnance or/and Gruesome Stuff Relish any time?
Yeah Iīll try to do a website for the bands, Iīve already done one for the label but I donīt like too much this kind of work, Itīs a bit boring. Iīm not too much into doing webpages, I like graphic design and I use to do all the covers, flyers... of my bands/label but webdesigning is not my cup of tea, he, he, he.

That's about everything I had in mind for you! Please, feel free to add anything concerning you, Gruesome Stuff Relish, Repugnance & Motosierra Records that we failed to mention here.... Thanks for your time!
I donīt know what else I can add, the intieīs been vey complete, I think Iīve told every interesting thing about Gruesome Stuff Relish, Repugnance and Motosierra.
O.K. many thanks to you for your interest and for doing this great webzine.
