Interview with Akinob of GORE BEYOND NECROPSY by Billy Nocera (November 2003)

Hello Akinob! Tell everybody what GBN has been doing the past few years?
Some people thought the band was dead, but I'm glad we all know the band is still alive! Are you happy being in GBN for so many years? Do you think the band will ever stop?

Hi Billy! OK! Here we go!!!
Well, we just did some gigs & exctreted our shits as well.
Yeah, I'm so happy to do GBN over 12 years!!!
All we are good friends and have a good relationship just like a family!
So that there's no reason for us to stop GBN at this moment.
Now all we got a real job and drowned in a working hell!!!
As you know, all we get tired and wanna do nothing after the shit work!
Besides, all we're very lazy!!! I know this is the worst point but....Sorry!
(Do you remember I had always been bothering you with my delayed reply, Billy!?!?)
Anyway we keep on excreting our shits out!!!

Tell us about some of your new releases, such as the 3-way split 12" LP with ARSEDESTROYER and NIKUDOREI coming out on your own label! Also tell us about your upcoming 7" ep on HG FACT Records. I heard you also have a split 7" ep coming with DEMISOR, tell us more about this, and any other new ep's coming?

OK! 3-way split 12" LP entitled "TRIPLE SHOCKS!!! FREAKNOISE SHOW" is out now!
It contains ultra raw grindcore/pure noisechaos only!!! I can't recommend it for the kids who love clean/tight/over-produced metal stupid sounds. It is just for true noise freaks like you, Billy!!! It is co-released with MEATBOX recs. (A label run by ex GIBBED singer/now noise generator of ENEMA SYRINGE)
We really hope all noise freak will get a copy and enjoy!!!
Well, we did rock'n'roll covers for the upcoming 7" EP on HG Fact.
It is entitled "Wild & Frantic! Rock'n'Roll Special!!!" EP and will be out soon.
We did 6 hot rockin' tunes (all covers) to show how much we love Rock'n'Roll music!
Well, I don't talk much about the split EP with DEMISOR....
We had done over 3 years ago, but it's not out yet.
I have no idea when it will come out.
Also now we're working for split CD with NWC666 on Prolapse (Australia) and EP's comp CD on NAT Recs (Jap).

The new GBN songs on the 3-way split LP are amazing! Still in the same GBN style, but also a bit different, with lots of rocking influences/parts. What inspired the new style? Also tell us about the ARSEDESTROYER and NIKUDOREI tracks. Are you happy with those songs?

All wild, crazy and desperate rock'n'roll musick infects us a lot!!! Especially, Little Richard, The SONICS, The DEVIL DOGS, The Rip Offs and The ONYAS kills!!! I prefer those shockin' musick far better than tamed/boring recent grindcore/Noise. Sure! I'm proud of this LP! I reaaly love ARSEDESTROYER so much!!!!! The best ultra dirty grinding noisecore ever!!! NIKUDOREI is pretty cool, too! Now they have a sax player! I think they have their own strange/unique sound!!! If the soundquality was much better, I mean mastering had been done much better, it would be a masterpiece!!! But as I said, I'm really satisfied with this LP!!!

The LP has a GREAT layout/cover booklet by Woo-Young from REALIZED. Tell us about him. He has a really crazy, and insane style! Are you happy with this kind fo artwork for GBN? Will you use his work in the next releases? Was it expensive to make this great booklet for the LP?

He's a great friend of mine, a big fan of GBN and a singer of REALIZED. At first he did DROWN BAIRON Q, one man grindcore/noisecore project. Kiyonob & me got shocked of his crazy musick and then released a tape split with D.I.E. through Harshit. Fortunatelly, all we have a same musical taste and then formed a band called YOUNG TRIO around in '99. (Woo-young/Vocals & guitar, Kiyonob/Bass, Me/Drums) We made totally "Out of controled" tunes influenced by Noisecore/Punkrock/Rockabilly and did some shows so far. Near future, we'll record a demo. Hope you'll like it, Billy!!! Also Woo-young sometimes helped GBN out as a singer when MAMORU couldn't come to the live show because of his job! Really a nice guy!!! YEAH!!! I love his artworks!!! Now I'm waiting for a brandnew 7"EP on HG Fact (Japan) to come out! All artworks were done by Woo-Young!!! Of course we will ask him to draw beautiful artworks for our future releases! Artworks for GBN new CD on your Razorback will be done by Woo-young, too! YEAH!!! It's unbelievablly expensive!!!
But It's a first time for Harshit to do 12" LP, so we decided to do what we wanna do for it!!!

How many copies of the LP did you press? Is it limited-edition? Are the grind fans happy with it so far? How long did it take to record it and release it? It looks amazing!!

Limited 800copies we made! YEAH! All of my friends love this LP!!! But I know it's too dirty/filthy for most of people! So that it's too hard for us to promote! Umm... It takes about 2years!!! After ARSEDSTROYER come to Japan and toured with us in 2000, we got a request from Terje/AD about this LP. It was really for hard to release this LP but as I said, I'm really love this LP. Hope all Grindnoisecore maniacs will get a copy!!!

You're also planning to do a full CD next year! Tell us about this, and
some ideas you have! Can we still plan to hear the great style of GBN on this recording?

First of all, thanx Billy for giving us such a great chance!!! Now I have some new shits for the CD. At this stage, I can't say any details but I wanna try to realize my vision.
"If ELVIS, LITTLE RICHARD and JIMI HENDRIX played grindcore/noisecore, what it would be!?!?"
This is just my own idea, so that I don't know exactly what it will be.
Only I can say is it will be "Ultra raw grindin' chaos - hot rockin' crazy noise" shit and it will be entitled as "Rock'n'Noise Grind'n'Roll"!!!
Anyway we'll do our best for the CD!

What happened with your deal with Relapse Records? You only signed a deal for one CD, right? Were you happy with this release? It looks like the CD is out of print now. Tell us what happened. What do you think of some of the bigger labels putting out grind? Do you have any favorite labels?

We had never signed with RELAPSE so far. Bill of EXIT-13 offered us to do a CD, then we did. It's the same situation between you and us this time, Billy!
YEAH, I'm happy with that release!!! By "NOISE-A-GO-GO!!!", we can show "what GBN is" to many many people, even those who think clean/tight/good-recorded metal shit as grindcore. At that time, RELAPSE had released/had a plan to release MERZBOW, MASONNA and other great noise stuffs. We just thought it's cool to be their label mate.
Few years ago, we asked RELAPSE about our new stuff, but didn't get any good reply.
That's all.
Well, my favorite one is late 80's Earache!!! Rip Off records is pretty cool, too!

GBN always plays live shows in Japan, tell us about some of the latest
ones. Will you ever tour outside of Japan? There's lots of freaks who would
love to see GBN live.

Last one was "Blurred Recs 10th anniversary" at D.O.M, Shinjuku, TOKYO.
It was 2 days special gig on November 1st and 2nd, 2003.
We played on the first day with TERRIBLE HEADACHE, Su19B, GRUDGE, NICE VIEW, and SLIGHT SLAPPERS. (2nd date: D.I.E, MORE NOISE FOR LIFE, BATTLE OF DISARM,
ZAGIO EVHA DILEGJI, UNHOLY GRAVE & SENSELESS APOCALYPSE)
I really enjoyed it 'coz all bands were great and had a good time with lots of friends!!!
We had toured AUSTRALIA in the end of 1998 ~ the beginning of 1999.
WARSORE organized it we did some shows in Melbourne.
That was my best experience ever so far! All bands we played with are really cool and all people we met with were really nice!!!
Someday we wanna do tour in Europe, USA and other contries if we have enogh time and money!!!

Tell us about the current Japanese underground scene. What are some of
your fave bands? Any new bands you'd like to talk about? Is the scene still very active?

YEAH! There are many good grindcore bands! Especially GRUDGE, REALIZED, D.I.E, DIE YOU BASTARD! and UNHOLY GRAVE are AWESOME!!! I think Japanese grindcore is the best in the world!!! But scene is very small. Only a few kids love true grindcore
musick, i guess. Scene for Noise/Hardcore is really great though.

Do you listen to any death metal anymore? Or do you only like the old
bands? Can you name any newer death metal bands you heard that you like? Any grindcore bands you like today?

I have no interest in it now! I still love old stuffs by ENTOMBED, CARNAGE, AUTOPSY, PUNGENT STENCH etc. though! I was into those kind of musick by tape trading.
I was so shocked and excited their super heavy, raw, out of control sound so much!!!
As for some bands, I enjoyed their demo tape but thier album was nothing but boring!!!
Because I couldn't see any good point in their clean and tight metal sound.
Then I realized that I just liked poor, inferior heavy sound caused by copied thousand times, not Death Metal Music.

I saw that there was a CD released with all the old GBN stuff, on some label called Lo Fi Or Die Records. Is this a total bootleg release? Do you
ever plan to re-release your old stuff on CD? Are you still happy with your old recordings?

I don' t know that shit!!! It has to be a bootleg!!!
We don't have any plan to release our old shits with drum machine but some EP's etc. after '96 will be released CD by NAT recs, Japan.

GBN used to be more Carcass-gore influenced on the earlier stuff, but
later the band went into more of a grind/noisecore/chaos style, and recorded many insane releases such as the "Faecal Noise Holocaust" 7" ep(one of my faves!).
What inspired the band to make such a change and have you been happy going in this style for the past few years?

CARCASS is still our main influence!!!
Now we just know the way we wanna do, but we didn't know at first.
Well, we just got bored with being an old CARCASS clone shit and totally sick with cheap fuckin' drummachine sound!!!
Originally, before we named ourselves GBN, Kiyonob, Hironori and me had played noisecore just like "SORE THROAT/7min of NAUSEA/AC meets SPK/COIL. It was very very funny but we hadn't had a good sense at that time 'coz my drum playing was horrendously bad!!!
Then we got a real drummer and we changed our band under the name of GBN in '91 to play musick just as CARCASS did. (He left the band in '92 because of wound, though...)
At that time we tried to play the shits like CARCASS, NAPALM DEATH, GENERAL SURGERY, XYSMA with SPK, LUSTMORD, GODFLESH etc...
But we got bored with it. Besides, we wanted much more noisy sound but it didn't fit with cheap drumbox sound. When MERZBOW/GBN played live, we had a guest drummer. We really loved that true/live drum sound!!! So that HAYATO joined 'in 96.
Now we have our own "Analdrillingrindharshitcore" sound!!! We just shove all our favorite musick, any wild and crazy ones as Grindcore, Noisecore, Noise, Rock'n'Roll, Punk Rock etc..., down our throat and shut it out of our arses! Then it becomes GBN shits!
YEAH, I think we were pretty cool as another CARCASS clone!!!

GBN has a web site, but it's never been updated in many years. Do you do the web site stuff? What do you think of the internet, has it hurt the
underground or helped it?

No! It's done by CHIE, Hironori's wife. Recently she's sooo busy with her job. Furthermore, her PC system have been out of control. I don't know it well but really hope it will work out again, soon!

Tell us about your label Harshit Records! How long have you been doing
it? Do you have any other releases planned to come out? Do you have a distro and stuff you sell at shows?

Kiyonob and me started around in '96 to release demo tape of our side project band named REPULTURID MANGEL. Around in '95, we were totally bored with the rhythm machine so that I started playing the drums again at our rehearsal. We really enjoyed some session and recorded
it by portable 4 track recorder. It was pretty cool then we decided to release it by ourselves.
Harshit have released the followings by now:
*REPULTURID MANGEL domo#1 '96
*GBN Live & Reh tape '96 (Sold out)
*D.I.E/DROWN BAIRON Q split tape '98 (Sold out)
*GBN "Go Filth Go!!!" CD '00 (Sold out)
*D.I.E/NIKUDOREI split 7"EP '01 (Co-released with Bloodbath Recs.)
*ARSEDESTROYER/GBN/NIKUDOREI 3-way split LP '03
"Tripple Shocks!!! Freaknoise Show" (Co-released with Meat Box Recs)
Yeah! We sell our shits at our shows! I'm not interested in distro now 'coz here in Japan, we have good record shops like ALLMAN, NAT Recs, BOY, BASE, LOS APSON etc. and we can get what we want
very easily in TOKYO at those shops. Besides my friends NARUTOSHI (Obliteration) and KIM (Bloodbath Recs.) do nice distro. There's no place for me to do a new one in Japan.
Now Harshit plans to release full length album by GRUDGE and REALIZED.
Both true "Raw & dirty" grindcore bands I'm so much into!!!

Lots of people always ask about GBN t-shirts, do you have any available?
Will you make some new ones next year?

YEAH! We always wanna have it! But we don't have enogh money honey!!!
Hey Billy! Would you like to print GBN shirts!?!?
Actually we always just plan, but it never comes true because of financial
problem. It costs a lot to print a nice T-shirt here in Japan! Too Bad!!!

Any new bands that you would like to do some split CD's or EP's with in the future?

Now we're ready for a new split CD with NWC666. It's really great for us
to make new shits with Olli again. About10 years have passed since GUT/GBN
split 7"EP came out! I'm so happy that we're still alive and have a chance
for a split with Olli's band again!
YEAH!!! I love split stuffs. If possible, I'd like to do with GRUDGE, REALIZED,
DIE YOU BASTARD!, D.I.E, INCAPACITANTS, PAINJERK and TRACY LORDS LOVES NOISE!!!

Well Akinob, thanks for doing this interview! It's great to see GBN still going so strong all these years! Any last words?

Thanx Billy for this great interview! I'm really enjoyed!!! This is the second one with you.
Do you remember the first one!?!?
Well, we never stop! We play our own "RAW, FILTHY and HARSH!!!" musick forever!!!
Keep on crazy grinding and Rock'n'Roll!!!
