Interview with Fondlecorpse vocalist Silvester the Goregnome Koorevaar (May 2003) by Billy Nocera

Hey Sly, tell us all about FONDLECORPSE. When was the band formed?

Hey Billy, well the band actually started as an idea early nineties, and became a concrete band idea around 95/96 when i drew a sketch of a woman fondling a female corpse and i wrote down under the drawing FONDLECORPSE, i liked the sound of it and thought this is going to be a band. But alas i never expected it to be a LONG LONG struggle to get my vision out to the masses. At the time in the early nineties i was in another Deathmetal band which did okayish, when it fell apart it was the first time i tried to get some musicians to do this with me but it didn't work out, after that there were a few other line-ups but most never lasted long enough, the closest I actually came to recording something was around 2000, had a full line-up some songs, (even played a few songs live once) and had the artwork finished by Jake for the limbless EP, and yup line-up fell apart again, and ive been struggling again since that time to get it back up again, and at times that was very depressing, it seems it's almost impossible to find any musicians in my country to do a band with, most just wanna play the popular crapmetal or the music that will get them chicks and shit, buncha faggot backstabbing scum. In 2002 the current line-up got together basicaly its me on vocals, Bas on guitar, Krite on drums and Mathijs a friend of ours doing the bass duties as a session bassist. We have recorded our first material for a split seven inch with Inkblack and that fucker should see the light in the very near future, should send out all the material to the pressing plant within a week or so, i am pretty excited to see a result after so many years of bullshit and struggling to get the shit together!!!

You guys have some upcoming vinyl releases coming out, including a split 7" with INKBLACK, and a split 10" with ENGORGED. Please tell us about them, and any other split releases you have planned? Did you guys ever have a demo?

Yeah our first release will be a split with INKBLACK, one of the few bands around here who know how to play their metal, they play oldschool Hatefull DeathTrash, their a violent bunch of scum, so it was only a matter of time for us to cooperate hahaha. Their cool guys and it is fun working with them with these sick fucks breaking down the walls of moral codes. Than on to the split with Engorged which will be a split cd and with any luck I might be able to arrange to get the stuff released on LP too because vinyl rules. Ive been a fan of Engorged for a while and Ryan also being a 80’s trashculture freak so actually that deal was made pretty fast (I didn’t expect to be able to do a split so fast with the mighty ENGORGED hehe) Man i was hooked on Engorged the first time i saw their first album with the Cobra Imagery and Song, i could only worship hahahah. As far as other releases ive got 3 more split seven inches at least i want to do, and we are curently working on getting the Limbless 7” out which should have been released in 2000, salvaging some songs and lyrics and recording it with the new line-up and giving them a new twist. And after that it is time to focus on the debut cd CREATUREGORE. As far as a demo, over the years ive only managed to make a few rehearsal tapes and cd-r’s but they are all recorded in practiserooms for personal purposes to wrote lyrics and shit, so the first real release will be this first split we are releasing now. But some old material will find its way to upcoming releases.

FONDLECORPSE seems to be totally influenced by 80's trash culture! Cartoons, comics, action figures, Garbage Pail Kids cards, Boglins, Critters, Gremlins, Madballs, and all kinds of crazy stuff. It's definitely not the typical topic that death metal bands usually choose, why have you decided to take your band in such a gonzo direction, while still being a totally sick and extreme gore/death metal band?

Well thats partly because i am an idiot still stuck in the 80's, my whole house is a fucking shrine to that shit, I got tons of that stuff all over the house, I used to really actively collect action figures and i got several hundreds from all the 80's/90's cartoons, tons of old comics, Garbage pail kids, and i am also an avid horror memorabilia collector and of weird mutant toys, i just like having tons of unusual stuff. I recently bought the entire Mad Max toyline, man they kick ass my own little Max Rokatansky and Humongous “I RULE THE WASTELAND” hahah kick ass!!!. I also suffer from a bad case of childhood nostalgia which is a good reason for my intrests!!! As far as topics for the band, Fondlecorpse for me is just about fun so i refuse to limit myself to topics because i have to you know? ill write lyrics about anything i damn well please and what intrests me, and well i am also gonna prove that a topic
not containing standard gore can still be brutal and extreme as fuck. Fondlecorpse is mainly a band we do for ourselves so lyrics will be diverse and about everything we like and we just give it a demented twist turning even the most innocent topic into a gore infested extreme song. Watch for a song we are doing about He-man where Skeletor kills everybody and buttfucks the Sorceress and pleasures Teela with his Skull Staff.

Tell us about SLAMFIST, the band you were in before FONDLECORPSE. Is this band still active?

Well Slamfist was a band which was totally different in all ways to Fondlecorpse, also musically and vocally it was more old school trashy kinda deal, I was itching to do something and this came along. This was more a band to vent my hatred and non gore subjects. And well Fondlecorpse at the same time still had a bunch of crap to deal with and line-up problems, so it kept me busy. The band did okay we released a MCD and recorded a seven inch which still needs to be released. But the drummer left and other drummers never stuck around long enough or couldn't handle the blastbeats and shit, so it kinda bled to death and put on ice for now (a re-occuring situation over all the years ive been in bands) . I might do a project with it in the future but since Fondlecorpse is now up and running all my energy will be going into this band, took me ages to finally get it running so wanna catch up on those long lost years. Fondlecorpse is and always will be my most important band doing music i like doing the most. Total B-movie/80’s trashculture inspired SICKNESS!

What is it about the 80's that you love so much? Have you been collecting a lot of the DVD releases coming out of all the classic horror/gore films? Name some of your favorite films, cartoons, toys, comics, and 80's metal bands.

Well most of it is childhood nostalgia, i had some great fun in the 80's to me it seems i had more fun then, nowadays life sucks hahaha, Also the movies were better then as were the cartoons etc etc, man i sound like a grandpa!!!!! As far as classic gore movies man i love that shit i got a huge video collection but with the arrival of the DVD ive been hooked even more, its also easier to get a lot of movies, on Tape i used to hunt down those fuckers and pay huge amounts of money to get a dubbed crappy copy, now i can get the same fucker on dvd for 10 bucks with tons of extra's its insane!!! (and bad for my wallet), And favoritte films man, thats a hard one i have favorits per genre hahaha. If i would name them i would be here all week typing, some but not limited to would be Star Wars i worship above all, than gory shit which i devouwer like a madman, like Everything from Peter Jackson like Bad Taste and Braindead, Meet the Feebles, Almost every zombie film worth it's zombies, everything from John Carpenter, Fulci, Romero, Dario Argento the giallo king, Tobe Hooper, Cronenburg, Bava, all the Jason flicks, huge monster movies (godzilla kind) Evil dead series, Critters (rules supreme), Ghoulies 1,2,3 (Ditto),Gremlins, Mad Max, toxic avenger and other troma stuff, Hammer flicks with christopher lee and peter cushing (CULT), predator 1 and 2, re-animator series, return of the living dead series, Phantasm series, Razorback hehe, Conan, and lately i am heavilly buying oriental gore which is pretty good, man the list goes on and on and i am sure i forgot tons of other favorites. Mainly i am such a gore/horror freak I just love anything worth its gore. to me every movie can have something that just rules making lists damn near impossible to make hahaha. I just enjoy gore in all its sickly ways and even the worst b-movies can still entertain me.
Hmmm Toys dont get me started hahahaha, I have so much crap i could write a book about it, but cool toys i got would definately be my Star Wars collection old and new, The Toxic Avengers had a cool toy line, Aliens and Predator had some cool toys, ofcourse my trusty (dinobot) transformers \m/ GRIMLOCK \m/ , The Turtles had some wicked mutants in their toyline, ofcourse i have some WWF wrestling figures like the HULKSTER hahaha that shit was cool, Swamp thing had some cool shit, He-man is cool, Thundercats i had a whole batch, ofcourse the GIJOE’s ROCK, A-team figures ruled, man the list goes on and on, i could fucking start a museum with the crap i have. Shit man, many guys are jealous of my collection because they had to get rid of it because of their girlfriends, or because it wasn’t cool and shit after a certain age, well we all know MEN LOVE this shit they just dont wanna admit it hahahaha.
Favorite Cartoons would be and again not limited to: GIJOE, Transformers (get those collected seasons on dvd from rhino their GODLY, hours of transformer galore!!), Thundercats, He-man, Turtles, Dino riders, Black Star, Droids, The Ewoks, Inhumanoids, M.A.S.K, MR T, list goes on and on hehe,
Comics usually related to the tv shit like Transformers and GIJOE, some cyberpunk stuff, violent shit from verotik like jaguar god, comics by Dark One, and ofcourse old magazines like creepy, tomb, weird tales, all those tales kinda shit you know? Most of the shit i have is old, nowadays comics are a bit crappy and boring ass and all geared towards the MTV generation BLEGH.
And as far as 80's (including start 90's bands ) would be almost everything, like Autopsy, Cannibal Corpse, Impetigo, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Macabre, Baphomet, Benediction, Repulsion, Mortician, Pungeant Stench, Testament, Demolition Hammer, Genital Deformities, Dead Infection, Obituary, OLD Slayer, Kreator, D.R.I, S.O.D, M.O.D, Necrophagia, Tankard, Morbid Angel, Broken hope, Samhain, Misfits not metal but hey who gives a hoot, Thats the few that pop up in my head for now, probably tons more but i suck at naming lists hehe

Who are some of your favorite bands in today's current underground? Any bands that you would love to do splits with?

Well i would say some of the current bands but not limited to would be Engorged \m/, Lord Gore, Fornicator, Machetazo, IHR, Fuck..im Dead, Ghoul, Frightmare, Haemorage, Jungle Rot, Impaled, Mortician, Inkblack, Bung, Zuckuss, Volatile, GSR, TCME, and the list goes on, this is the stack of cd's next to my computer at the moment. And splits well already got one with a band i really wanted to work with namely Engorged, Would be fun to do one with Frightmare, IHR if possible, Ghoul for an old school monster mash, My guitarist wants a split with Fuck...Im dead which i also wouldn't mind, and Zuckuss because they do Star Wars inspired shit that would rock.

You're also writing for the great TALES FROM URANUS comic/zine! Tell us about that, and also tell us what you think of Jake's amazing artwork! Tell us about the upcoming new issue in the works, what can we expect from it?

Yeah I got into contact with Jake probably around 2000 i think, it was when he released his first magazine with the cult story Night of the maggots and Poseur holocaust that shit blew me away and i became a huge fan of his work, also for that reason i asked him to do some cover art for me for Fondlecorpse (The Limbless one, but which wasn't used at the time because of a fucked up line-up yet again), At the time i was looking to starting up a support zine, but I ended up dumping that idea and combined forces with Jake, Issue 5 featured the first two interviews i did, and issue 6 was the first big issue taking a giant leap pagewise and content wise. I am basically just a big fan of his stuff that turned out to be able to help Jake with his zine, so now i am the dude doing interviews and doing the lay-out for my parts and printing my parts sending it out to Jake and making sure he has some more material for the zine. But in the end all the credit has to go to Jake, He is the mastermind behind the Zine all praise belongs with him, i am just the minion/gnome producing some extra material and interviews. As far as his art, well i think he is one of the sickest mutha's doing art in the scene today, I am always looking forward to seeing what he has created next, Thats why i want him to do the artwork for Fondlecorpse because the art simply kicks major ass. For me his art just fits perfectly with extreme metal. Gory and sick but yet funny. As far as the next tales issue, well it will be a blast, with any luck it will be able to top even issue 6. I already finished half the material for this issue so we are making progress, so i would say keep a look out for that issue it will kick ass. So fucking run to Jake’s page and send the man the cash for the latest issue http://www.talesfromuranus.com support his art!!!!!!

FONDLECORPSE is planning a full-length album, titled "Creaturegore", and you seem to have a lot of really great and insane plans for it. Please tell us the whole concept/idea for this future release! Can we expect to see more Boglins, Munchies, Ghoulies, and mutated basket cases mixed in with your death metal sound?

Well Creaturegore will be an important release for Fondlecorpse because that will be all out in your face creature based gore So it will feature a ton of songs about all kinds of little movie monsters like Critters, Gremlins, Ghoulies tearing the shit up and killing and destroying and boozing it up. Basically a genre i think forgotten by many people and i am to put it on the map, these little bastards can kill like the best of em, and i am gonna prove it with this release. Ive been fine-tuning this idea since the 90’s and i am glad nobody else has snatched my ideas yet mwhoahahahhaah, but i am really looking forward to doing this album, actually a lot of material lyricly has already been written or ideas worked out. This will be the invasion into goremetal of the little creatures, and you can bet their pissed off!!!! and ready to ruuuuuuuuumbleeeeeeeeee!!!!!

You guys have a very simple sound, oldschool, but catchy and fast with very heavy riffs. Who are some bands that have influenced you? You guys are definitely not following the popular styles of today's modern death metal, like Nile, Cryptopsy, etc. Tell us about some of your newer songs, and ideas, etc.

Well there's one criteria we live by and thats that it has to amuse ourselves, and we aren't really fans of that overtechnical bullshit, it needs to be straight and simple in your face mosh, trash and stomp music. Bands that Influence us are basically lots of 80's start 90's bands, Autopsy, Impetigo, Carcass, Bolt Thrower - Realm of chaos etc etc that kinda shit but influences can be there in any form, we dont really copy shit we just take a feeling of a band or lyric style or something and incorporate it in our sound, we never know what will influence us next, we just aim to jam and make something that amuses us and if we like it turn it into a song. I guess a big thing is that we are not out to prove anything to anybody, we just make this music because we need to and like the style, you could consider it B-movie, if it amuses you and entertains you for a while it has done it's job. I think it shows thru everything around Fondlecorpse and what we do. We could play a modern blastbeat/low grunt formula and maybe sell more and get known more, but that's not our goal, we just wanna jam and make music about our favorite shit, if you like it cool if not...well dont buy it and don’t listen to it simple as that, just don't bullshit to us about it because we don’t care and won't change what we do. We are currently working on the Limbless 7" and it will feature about 5 new songs, some are older songs restyled, some songs will definately be faster, and maybe more insane, and going to try and add more different vocals if we have the time in the studio. All in all the whole thing should increase in sickness, but we never know how something will sound next because we have no idea hehe depends on what we want to go for that particular day, we don’t stick to a certain style or formula, we just let it rip and see what sick shit flows forth from it.

Who would win in a battle: Gremlins, the creature from basket case, Boglins, Munchies, Critters, Leprechaun, or the madballs? Can Godzilla also join and crush all these little bastard creatures to a bloody mush?

Hmmmm thats a hard one, now the madballs you can flip that switch on their back and their head shoots off, the critters can bite off the hand up the boglins ass so they became paralized, the basket case monster they can lock up in his basket, the critters could eat the leprechaun yelling top of the morning to ya all o wee little furry balls “dont eat me nooooo” so we are rid of that one too. And than those left would probably go terrorize the town and thow a party, and than be stomped under godzilla's big ass feet. I dont think any of them would survive the big ass STOMP TOKYO mash attack. FATALITY......GODZILLA WINS!!!

How many krites did you kill today? I heard a new batch of them were landing soon in some desolate farm field. I heard a rumor that the Critters were actually starting a band called KRITEATTACK and are doing a split 7" with ENGORGED soon, is this true?

Well Krite our drummer is the sole survivor of the Kansas Town Massacre of 86', and they returned 3 more times, so i wouldn’t be surprised, maybe word got out that he now has a band on earth, and the snacks are a plenty on earth, juicy carbon hydrates, prime red meat flocking to the concerts we give. And a band KRITE ATTACK, well i know the critters are a feisty little bunch they definately know how to throw a party and their insane little bugger. Just watch our drummer Krite he plays drums like a friggin madman, maybe thats because he eats raw prime red beef? They probably ARE starting a band so they can eat all the groupies afterwards only not in the way the groupies would have liked to be eaten;) better warn the guys in Engorged, otherwise they'll be eaten and we won't have a band to do a split with hahahaha. “Yo Ryan man do you still have that device to call the bounty hunters??? i think its time to use it!!! CODE RED i repeat CODE RED”

Have you ever visited Creepsylvania?

I have actually visited Creepsylvania on one of my travels for TFU when i had a chat with the Ghoul crew, now fermentor and cremator were okay guys, got some gut rot and shit from them, but that Digestor charachter is one nasty fella one deaththreat after another, throwing insults, i left when he was starting to boil some vegetables in a cauldron and looked at me funny with that creepy eye of his, because i didn't want to end up as goregnome soup. So i escaped thru the back sewer pipe which ends up just behind the cemetary i think you know the exit i mean don’t you Billy? Thanx for the map with an escape route, i owe you one;)

Any final words Sly? I'm sure you're busy killing krites and blowing up small creatures in microwave ovens right now, so those are all my questions! Gizmo says: Bye Billy...

Yeah man blowing up small creatures in microwaves rules they blow up and say POP SPLAT hahaha i tape them and make a snuff tape out of it i have all kinds, like what happens if you have a gremlin + spoon man that was a show SIZZLE CRACKLE SIZZLE POP!!!!! Well Billy thanx for the interview with our boring demented childish selves you rule supreme bro!!!!, and also Braindead zine because it’s a very pro and slick webzine, it’s obvious that a lot of time goes into it, keep up the good work also Pierre!! Anybody into B-movie couchpotatoe gore metal visit us at http://www.fondlecorpse.nl and watch out for our first release soon.
