Interview #1 with DEMISOR by Billy Nocera (November 2003)

Hello! thanks for doing this interview. Tell us about the early days of DEMISOR. What was your first release, and do you still like your older stuff?
What made you start the band, and what were also some other bands you played with?

Cheers Billy!!!!!! The early days of Demisor was kinda hard....there's a lot of complicated problems......those days lots of kids into the underground stuff but not much available.Even gigs are hard to come by...the first release was the infamous( haha..) "Mastectomy " reh/demo 90'.The outcome of the reh/demo was rather raw but still we got good responses to it...probably Demisor was the 1st grindcorenoise band from Singapore???maybe so???For us we still dig it..its raw but some of the sonx we have improvise and still we play it till now...I have played around with some friends some grind project but none of it last....maybe because I cant play good enough music...hahaha....our drummer play in few cool death metal acts.....some how or rather we met and decide to play the band...the rest is history....

DEMISOR has had a lot of releases, what are some of your faves that you've done and are most proud of? Do you prefer doing vinyl, or CD releases, or tapes?

Probably most of it.....to do splits vinyl, tapes & CD are usually cool...maybe I would say some of the tribute to great bands like Brutal Truth,Impetigo etc....and to share some comp with more great bands all over the world! My favourites are the splits with Discontrol,C.S.S.O and splits tape with Necrotic Chaos...all those are great to me....

I heard that you have a full album planned, can you tell us a bit about this? Any ideas for the new songs and song titles? Any possible album title? Any labels interested yet? Let us know!

We wanna do it but its hard for all of us....All 3 of us work 3 different shift....so you can imagine how its like to maintain the band...but we tryin our best....Also we are waiting for the label answer....thats why probably you can see that we rather do splits then full???its less pressure and less time for it....anyway some label from sweden, usa, japan are interest but we see how it goes...if we do it we will of course wreck our brain to make more new heavy insane grindcore just for the kids to mosh!!!!!

I hear lots of Brutal Truth, old Napalm Death, and some Japanese grind influences in your music. What are some of your fave bands, and also some of your favorite newer bands? Any bands that you would love to do splits with that you haven't already?

Of course Demisor rip off some idea from the masters of grind!!!!hahaha...yeah we're glad people notice but we hope to be more original and we hope they support us the way we are....blast beat rules!!Our fave bands are like old bands Terrorizer,ND,Assuck,Brutal Truth etc....probably to splits with bands like Carcass,Terrorizer should be cool....haha..anyway we actually don't mind any band but they have to be a grind or brutal band of course....

What's the scene like in Singapore for grindcore, and death metal? Any cool bands you'd like to talk about? Do you have any female fans that go to grind shows? Any good zines from Singapore, and any cool labels you'd like to talk about?

The truth is the scene really has been dying down...( i think...)only few who really appriciate the underground scene is surviving...there are many bands no doubt but most prefer to do their own things(I guess its normal...) well its sad but band here just dont really gathered together or hang out like the good old days...you can see them maybe when there's gig then this so-called scenesters come together and hang out....but still there's cool band like Impiety,Eyesore,Vrykolakas,WxTxN,plus loads more....also there is an all girl death grind band too...(can't remember their monicker...)..

I know that Mark (Impetigo) lives in Singapore these days and I know you're great friends with him! Does he go to many of your shows? What's it like having such a living legend staying in your country!?

For a guy like Mark he is really an outgoing and he certainly support local and overseas bands!!!!which are an example for us!!although he is like a cult figure or legend he is just the coolest guy around...and yes he goes to almost any shows...

You have an upcoming split 7" ep coming soon with GORE BEYOND NECROPSY! Tell us about this release, and are you big fans of GBN? How did this release get planned?

To be honest this release is already 3 years old...back then when Demisor was active both bands planned it.So after GBN done their recording Demisor is already in the verge of r.i.p...so it put us in a spot...we like to do it but the band has this problem...so its delay till this year...anyway we have already sent it to Charlie Fudeworthy Records..anyway Charlie told me its in the pressing plant so we kinda excited....You can expect some real grindcore from both bands!!!!!!

Do you guys like any cool movies, books, comics, etc.? Is that stuff hard to get in Singapore? Are there any shops that sell stuff like that? What about stores that sell grind/metal stuff, are there many?

Yeah we dig all those movies, books, comics etc....some movies are easy to get but most are censored...(of course...).Shops into metal/hc are also available but its a mixture of all kinda music...Some sceneters opening shop selling stuff here and there which is cool...

Do you guys travel to other Asian areas ever? Have you done many tours over there? Tell us about living in Singapore a little bit if you can.

We do travel a lot as an individual and as for the band we play in several parts of asia like Malaysia( of course...),Indonesia 1997 & Japan 1999.We hope to play more overseas but we'll see how it goes....Usually this gigs are somewhat like vacation in that area..we dont get paid for sure...we pay our own flight, and sometime hotel but we are not that fussy about all those thing...we cant expect payment since asian are not well to do places and we understand this...maybe someday if someone or a label interest to booked us we will demand more???....hah

Singapore I guess is like your average place but I must say its a fast pace country...also strict rules apply here...theres good and bad point which people already know....Living in here is quite stressful...anyway its home for us...

Well, those are my questions. Keep grinding guys, and thanks again!
DEMISOR kicks ass.

Billy & I both made interviews with Demisor at about the same time, by mistake... So here is a second Demisor interview, alot of the questions are similar, sorry about that!

Interview #2 with DEMISOR by Pierre de Palmas

Ok, first, how are you feeling today? Fine I hope!

Yeah great as usual...whats up over there??????

Demisor have been around for a long time, in one form or another... There's been a line-up change lately I think but the band is still live and kicking? Yes?

That's true.....the band has gone through a massive changes but its still kickin'....We have some personal problems but maybe due to our passion the band just surviving.........till now....I hope...

What's the current line-up? And could you introduce the members? Are you all close friends for a long time in the band?

The line up are me on guitar/bass, Fahmy on vocals and Zainal on drums..Fahmy and me has been in the band since 92'.Zainal has played in almost cool death/gore/grind bands....I have known Zainal since the old days.We used to be penpal and trade few stuff...so its natural that he join us....Probably in the near future we'll add a bassist to our noise camp...

Can you remember why you started to listen/play grindcore? What are your influences, etc...

Maybe coz I can't play any cool death metal tune thats why???hahaha...I just suck at playing cool solo or technical riff.....Its true though back then kids are mostly into thrash/death metal.Usually the cool kids play good covers like from Gorefest,Morbid Angel etc..Me and the gang just hang out and listen to more unpolished grind/noise bands...Early bands like Genital Deformaties, Noiseslaughter, Shismopathic, Slashing Death, Smegma, UxGxB etc.... Our influences are probably the same as any grind kids... Napalm Death, Terrorizer, Brutal Truth, Nasum, Phobia, Assuck etc.....you cant denied it...

How would you describe the style you're playing?

Hmmm I would like to say probably just plain old grindcore with an attitude???We just wanted listeners to hear what we are offering and we try to be original as possible.....

I think you're trying to prepare a full length release, am I right or wrong? When do you think it'll happen? Do you know how it's gonna sound? Any other detail?

We try too but the label havent given us the green light though so we havent start anything yet.We are still waiting for his answer.....we have already few cool songs from it...more grind/violence/insane thats for sure....

I think the split w/ GxBxN is coming up soon? What can you say about it? Any more releases planned besides these?

Yes that split 7'ep has been delay for ages to be releases....its delay was because of some shit happen to our band...we have difficulty in those time.We nearly r.i.p.but we push on and still sent the stuff to Charlie(Fudgeworthy Records).Anyway its in the pressing plant now and we are excited for it.....we done 3 way CD with 2 China bands under a China label MORT PRODUCTIONS.Also we have done few tributes comp....and more splits 7"ep in the future...

Do you have (one or more) favorite releases among your discography?

Almost all Demisor stuff is cool for me...probably there could be some improvement but thats how things goes and we are content with it...anyway I should say the split 7"ep with Discontrol,Redstain are good. And some split tape with Unholy Grave,Necrotic Chaos are killer....

What would be the 10 landmark grindcore lp/ep/split/whatever of all time for you personally?
Napalm Death-1st & 2nd LP and MLP "Mentally Murdered",Terrorrizer"World Downfall"LP,Filthy Christians"Mean"LP,
O.L.D "Old lady Driver"LP,Carcass 1st.2nd & 3rd LP,Impetigo 1st & 2nd LP,Brutal Truth"Extreme Conditions.... and this list goes on and on...

I saw the pictures of Demisor hanging with Mark of Impetigo! Can you talk a little about this? I know Mark has been living in Singapore for a while now... What can you say about Impetigo? What would you say is best: "Ultimo Mondo Cannibale" or "Horror of the Zombies"? By the way, I loved your cover of My Lai on Wizards of Gore!

Cheers!!!Well to me it should be "ULTIMO MONDO CANNIBALE" and their demo "GIALLO" nothing more nothing less!!!Cult!!!!
Demisor did a 2 gigs in Sabah(Malaysia) on march..I just contact Mark if he would like to come along and he did.So we hang out and really have fun!! Beers,Sex & Rock and Roll!!!!hahaha!!!anyway since we are there for the gig I ask Mark if he would like to do IMPETIGO "My Lai" that day...He agree and we blast the Sabahan crowd!!!! Mark said its been 10 years since his last live appearance...we have lots of fun...thanx to Sabahan grinders!!!!!!

-Speaking of tribute albums. I think your cover of "Denial of Existence" was the best on the Brutal Truth tribute with maybe Birdflesh. What did you think of that tribute album?

Cheers again!!!!!!What???we are just amature....hahaha...Tribute are always good release depending on which band on it and which band tribute it to.....For me personally its kinda like an honour or an offering to the band that we did cover...I know for sure we cant be as close as them but its just our offering...like an offering to the godz!!!!

How would you describe a Demisor live gig? What were some of your favorite gigs Demisor did, best places, best crowd...? I think you even opened for Napalm Death one time, pretty amazing!

Probably an insane grind performance by 3 monkey!!!!!Anyway we mosh hard if the crowd are crazy...the best gigs are like the one in Indonesia and Sabah...awesome!!!!!!Yeah we did open up for NAPALM DEATH!!!!its was fuckin killer to share the stage with them!!!!!Of course they still kick some poser trendy shit ass!!!A real deal for a fan like me.....I have heard some people really critic or just plain abuse NAPALM DEATH coz of their rockstar or commercial attitude???To me whatever it is they are the forefather of grind which has since in the history books of grind!!!!Enough said!!!

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but how is it like living in Singapore? Can you say something about your country? I've heard about awful stuff like pneumopathia epidemics in the news lately... Did this affect your life in any way?

Well Singapore are like your average normal country...we are much fast pace and small country compare to other state...living here are also stressfull...the latest epidemic like the SARS have really put us in an economic crisis..most people here are retrench due to this too....Its a downturn for an Asian country...We hope all this will subcide....

What are your lyrics about? Are they important to the band?

Our lyrics deal with personal matters, real event of what happening in our place and things around us that piss us off.....lyrics are important to us...

And that's all I got! Thanks for doing this! Any last comment?

Cheers to Pierre for this cool interview!!!!!Thanx again for the artwork!!!Killer artwork!!!!
