INHUME INTERVIEW
(march 26 1998)
Goregrind and Grindcore interview #1with Ben Jannsen from Inhume(Holland)
Questions were asked by myself(Pierre) through email
Can you present the actual INHUME line up?
Sure, as of now Inhume is:
Johan - Vocals
Joost - Vocals
Loek - Bass
Harold- Guitar
Michiel - Drums
Ben - Guitar
What is your past discography?
1995/1996 Inhume demo 1
1996 Inhume/Suppository split tape
1997 (April) Inhume/ Mundo de Mierda (Eq.) split tape.
1997 (May/June) Inhume demo 2 which is actually out now!
1998 (April/May) Blood/Inhume split single!
What releases are coming up soon?
The BLOOD/INHUME split single!!!, and we will try to do some more split singles and maybe a CD at the end of this year or next year or so.
Is there any proposal by labels for INHUME to get a record deal?
Yes, we have had more then one offer but I'm not sure what we will do, since these offers were made before our former drummer and guitar player left the band and we have not done much for over 5/6 months now with Inhume (not our other bands!).We are just getting back at rehearsing in a week or two and then maybe do some gigs, or whatever. We're really glad we found a new drummer, it seems that almost no one wants to do GRIND!
What style do you think INHUME is playing? I think it's more very fast brutal death metal than pure grindcore!
That's true , this is because of the many different influences when you play with 6 guys in one band (Influences from Grind, Death, Black, Thrash, Disco?), but with the new line up things will definitely get more GRIND !!! Some of us are into Splatter Grind/Noisy stu ff and some are not so we make some kind of mixed Grind/Death, well as long as it's fast and brutal it's alright with me. Inhume is a live band so come see and then decide what you think of us.
There's a very good sound on the 97 demo! compared to usual Grind/Death bands demos! Where, when and how did you recorded your tracks?
Thanks a lot, We recorded this demo at our own Rehearsal room (The GrindCave Rehearsal Room) with Erwin from Mangled/Disgorge in May 1997. (Erwin rules!) Erwin also did the remi x (much better guitar sound etc.) on the BLOOD/INHUME Split single. We did not have a drummer at that time so that's why we have had to do a few remixed demo tracks on this single. We will record some new stuff for our next single, which I hope will be wi th Dead Infection or Haemorrhage.

There's no lyric sheet with the demo, but judging by the titles, it seems to be very gory and perverse! "blood, sperm, shit"/"Gargling guts"/"Cadaverous abortion"... who writes them? Are you always gonna use gory/disgusting lyrics?
I hope so. We all write lyrics, (at least we are supposed to!) but mainly the lyrics come from both singers and our bassplayer. We do not print these lyrics because then everybody would start singing along and before you know it someone doe s a cover version of one of our songs at the Eurovision songfestival! Or somewhere else, and then a Karaoke CD and so on.

I know INHUME was due to do this gig in France with LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY, MANGLED & co. but MUCUPURULENT finally played instead of you!(?I think) what happened?
I'm surprised you know of this; we were going to do a 10 day tour with Deranged/Vomitory thanks to Wilko from Fadeless Records (Hol.) around ^*#$@!mas/December 1997 but two weeks before this tour our drummer and the other guitar player left the band (??? - !#%&@$^*) This is why we did not play in France as well. I hope we will get another opportunity because "live" is what Inhume is. (You did see Harold/Guitar and Loek/Bass since they are both in Mangled as well, so is Erwin).

Do you know guys from LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY (from the Netherlands too)? I don't know very much grindcore bands from your area, can you advise me some??? (Even not grindcore bands)
Yes we know L.D.O.H. very well. I just have not seen them in the new line up, we did do some gigs together last year, but they make completely different Grind then us. I guess the biggest difference is the vocal style since our vocalist\rquote s just Grunt/Scream etc. \par \par Bands from our area! Nee, Mangled, Drowning in Tears, Disrupt, Disgorge !!!

Are every members only involved in INHUME? or is there some parallel bands?
Well, almost all of us do something else besides Inhume, or has plans to do so. (SplatterGrind?)
Joost - Inhume, Drowning in Tears.
Johan - Inhume.
Loek - Inhume, Drowning in Tears, Disrupt, Mangled.
Harold - Inhume, Mangled, Disgorge, ?.
Michiel - Inhume, Nee.
Ben - Inhume, Drowning in Tears.
What are your fave bands for now?
Dead Infection, Blood, Haemorrhage, Regurgitate, (Old) Carcass. Disgorge.
Do you like horror/gore/trash movies? is there any faves?
Yes, the sick ones!
What do you hate the most in general?
The few months we had no drummer and we had no gigs etc. The fact that we did not go on tour with Deranged and Vomitory.
Finally, is there any gigs or tours planned sooner or later?
Not yet, we will have to work on our come back it seems. But we will be back, you can count on that, we just have to play!!! Grind rules.
Well, I think that's all! any last words...
