INHUMATE "Life" Cd

(Grind Your Soul-GYS004)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 41:34

Review:
French band Inhumate continues its quest in sheer brutality... Simply picking up where their last cd left off. This new material is as strong and intense as ever... These fine people are still playing their own brand of basic, brutal and grinding death metal still with their own distinctive mark which is delivering things with much more positive energy than most other bands. Songs are totally aggressive, blasting and fast but all played in a sort of uplifting manner, which is quite refreshing. Guitar riffs are pretty chunky, heavy of course and thrashing, drumming is very assured and blasting all the way, vocals are still this effective blend of growling and higher pitched vociferations. The plus of this album seems to be a few more deeply guttural (is it pitch-shifting? not really sure...) vocal high-lighting which gives a slightly gorier vibe at times. There are also some other vocal variations like a couple of hardcore-type shouts at one point... The overall result is pretty upbeat but extremely angry at the same time; and well simply a joy to listen to in my opinion... Sound production is all very solid and clear. Bands like Nembrionic or Blood often come to mind, with the grind edge of something like Squash Bowels perhaps... Lyrically, this is all rather light-hearted stuff, just interesting things to read about, often open-minded views and topics pretty rarely dealt with in the genre... The cd ends on cool note which is some very cool live material through which you can further feel the band's true energy. This is yet another excellent release for this one of a kind band...

INHUMATE "Growth"

(Grind Your Soul)
Release date: 2000
Total running time: 32:01

Review: Here's the third installment in the ambitious Inhumate's planned heptalogy of conceptual albums. Inhumate is about grinding death metal, performed in the proper way. The one and only way to perform it well; fastly, savagely and brutally. They found their own sound and place in the genre since the beginning, they didn't change their music or slowed it down. It's always so intense, furious, only the sound production is better. Many great new ideas and just more growls, screams, heavy guitar riffs, crushing bass and grinding drums maelströms to feast on!
The good thing about their concept is that they're not bounded to anything. Their lyrics are some of the most varied and unconstrained out of the whole underground metal scene. You can find true personal reflections, as well as alot of humourous crazy fun, but most important: NO fucking tired grind lyrical cliches. This band is original and unique; sure it has some imperfections, like everything, but I just totally love this record and the powerful energy emanating from it! Ok, let's stop with bullshit, it's just freaking good grind-death stuff, and that's all that counts.
Some additonal details: there's a 12 paged booklet with lyrics, cool cover packaging...
Sounds like: Blood, Cerebral Turbulency, (and maybe early Brutal Truth or Napalm Death)

Tracks: 1)I want to kill some...(part 3) 2)Underground 3)Copyright 4)The fright 5)Clock 6)Grind god 7)Time 8)The golden cage 9)Vanité? 10)N.S.C. 11)Urges! 12)Karamazov 13)Grind to the core 14)Satyriasis 15)Bread and games 16)Müensterturm 17)D.I.Y.F.

INHUMATE "Ex-pulsion"

(Grind Your Soul)
Release date: 1997
Total running time: 28:03

Review: On this second opus, Inhumate really went 10 times more extreme than on "Internal life".. They were already utterly violent in the past, but here they got completely speed crazed, ryhtmed by tight, blasting fast drums, skilful, sharp heavy guitars, a good dosage between necessary technicity and catchy simplicity, always preserving entire rawness and sheer brutality in the compositions. Leaded by intense vocals, reaching high degrees in anger, deep growls, supported by screamy backvox. You feel they really play with their guts! Everything is going very fast, flirting with extreme brutal death metal like early Suffocation and heavy grindcore in early Napalm Death vein. Even including a few very very short songs. Once again, it reminded me latest Blood(germany) works; maybe a little faster and grindy... really catchy! The only thing I disliked is the bonus track, kind of worthless remix, which brings nothing to Inhumate music nor to techno style... The lyrics are not common, just about their feelings and thoughts... It is interesting most of the time, about various subjects matter from sodomy to suicide... As well, the concept of "Ex-pulsion" is birth. A follow-up to "Internal life" about life in utero. The front cover picture is blurred, but inside pictures are not, and these are gruesome birth pictures. If you didn't know yet, birth is a really gory thing! (gore is life... or life is gore as you prefer) Click here to view a small birth picture from the inside cover. Anyway, the total running time is 28 minutes and all in all, this is really intense and extreme, brutal death or grind freaks should not be disappointed!

Tracks: 1)The key 2)Therapy for dogs 3)Sodomy 4)The chosen one 5)Perfection 6)In quest 7)Blind 8)Effluves 9)Grind inc. 10)Desperate 11)Trance 12)History 13)Mother fuck her 14)Grindub (bonus track)

INHUMATE "Internal Life"

(Grind Your Soul)
Release date: 1996
Total running time: 49:39

Review: Inhumate is from France, and into grinding death metal. Their music is basic, energic, very brutal and catchy. And I like it very much. They often remind me Blood on their last albums. With blasting drums, thrashy guitars, growling lead vox and backing screams. But their lyrics are kinda weird: they are sometimes serious, distressing, or then totally different; funny/original... Anyway never really my cup of tea, far too dissimilar for this kind of hermetic music... It wastes the intensity of their music a bit. Anyway here we have 18 good death-grind tracks (+ 2 hidden live tracks)... Underground brutal death metal maniacs should check this out!

Tracks: 1)Alone 2)My sweet love 3)Putrefaction 4)Blood 5)Welcome 6)D.P.B. 7)Piece of meat 8)Screams 9)I want to kill someone... 10)Torture 11)Tatanka 12)The dream 13)Why? 14)Trying to conceive 15)Obsession!!! 16)Earth fucking earth 17)The bullet 18)Incest (just a kiss)
