IMPETIGO "Giallo/Antefatto" Cd

Release date: 2001
Running time: 32:13

Review:
Now this cd gives me tingly feelings, and a nearly physical sensation of pleasure. I think this should conclude my tour on the series of Impetigo re-release that were all so damn good, I think I have the complete set by now. "Giallo" is material from the 89 demo and it's something to be treasured, it's one of the rougher sounding Impetigo material ever but it's in my mind material that's equally important as english grindcore of that period and Impetigo's future classics "Horror of the Zombies" & "Ultimo Mondo Cannibale". "Giallo" was re-released on picture disc by Morbid Records some times ago, but I guess not everybody has that disc so it's really awesome to have it on cd as well. And more than just that, this cd contains the post-Ultimo Mondo cannibale, pre-Horror of the Zombies "Antefatto" ep (Split ep with Blood actually) that almost no one ever heard before, it has a different version of "Boneyard", so damn exciting with this rawer sound and it also has a pretty damn great song never appeared anywhere else before called "Cannibal Apocalypse". And an instrumental version of "i Work for the Streetcleaner" stopped right in the middle when dan broke a drum head!
The icing on the cake is really the most illuminating Stevo's liner notes going into details of the recording process and each song's story. It also has the complete lyrics, and cover art and packaging that looks bloody great, the lay out is really gorgeous. Great cd that will make every fan's heart ache and shout, just reform Impetigo already!

If you haven't noticed, I had to relocate Impetigo's website to a new address: www.impetigo.ht.st and I should update it soon.

"WIZARDS OF GORE" A TRIBUTE TO IMPETIGO Cd

(Razorback Records)
Release date: 2000
Total running time: 69:37

Review:
First, I'm sorry for being so late at reviewing this. Now, Kudos to Razorback, this tribute album is one of the major album of the year. Incredible work here. A gathering of the best gore, death & grind bands around... playing versions of the best gore band ever. The amazing artwork is bonus. The front is by Haemorrhage crazy frontman Luisma, it represents sicko flesh-eating zombies, I love his simple style of artwork, very much in the spirit of Stevo's art. There's also a "Wizards of Gore" logo done Impetigo-logo-style with letters made of blue guts, severed limbs and heads etc... It looks fantastic. The drawing in the back is excellent too... It represents Impetigo band members half-naked around a pot, holding parts of dismembered corpses, in their own remake of Cannibal Ferox... So much fun, and full-colour. The inside is great also, highly interesting stuff to read, like Stevo's letter about Impetigo's split, testimonies from their friends and fans, like Kam Lee from MASSACRE, or the guy who runs NETHERWORLD fanzine etc... on a background of Fulci and Argento movie posters... And about the real stuff now. Musical hostilities start up with a kick-ass MURDER CORPORATION version of "Boneyard" (probably Impetigo's most famous song). Of all the good stuff on this cd, my favorite cover has to be IMPALED version of "I Work for the Street Cleaner", just because IMPALED kicks ass and also coz they did again the "Deadbeat at Dawn" intro (by themselves I think) and it's so much fun ("I hate people... and I don't care!"). I also loved BLOOD DUSTER Dis-organ-ized", MORTICIAN "Cannibal Lust" (thanks for keeping the lovely "Cannibal Holocaust" intro! It was the only film sample I recognized when I first listened to "Horror of Zombies"!) HAEMORRHAGE "Staph Terrorist", DEEPRED "Trap them and kill them", EXHUMED "Cannibal apocalypse", ENGORGED 'Dear uncle creepy", VAMPIRIC MOTIVES "Sinister Urge" and GORE BEYOND NECROPSY's variation on "Jane Fonda Sucks". The weirdest cover version award goes to the CLOTTED SYMETRIC SEXUAL ORGAN version of "Cannibal Ballet" (but well, the original song was weird in the first place...). I also loved details like the car crash sound before the VASTION cover version of "Harbinger of death" (whose lyrics is about a prankster guy who threw rocks on passing cars...) and MACHETAZO keeping it up with the spanish intros. But now, what's with german SANITYS DAWN covering "Heart of Illinois"? They're german, they never lived there, how can they sing a song about Illinois being boring. Maybe they should have re-named their cover version "Heart of Germany" I'm sure it's boring where they live too, or maybe they could have switched cover versions with LIVIDITY who actually is an Illinois-based band (if I'm not wrong)... Anyway; just kidding... but don't worry I'll stop now, coz I'm not even funny. OK. Everything logically ends up with "Breakfast at the Manchester Morgue" (my personal Impetigo fave song -with "Mortado", even if it's not their fastest or most brutal material, it's their tightest song, musically and lyrically.. in my humble opinion) wonderfully played here by LORD GORE (This band's real great too!) and... That's it. Exceptional compilation, essential for Impetigo freaks and anybody else too by the way. Great occasion to hear all those fantastic bands covering Impetigo, and maybe discover some you didn't know. Essential must-have record, to listen, to feast your eyes on and to shed a tear thinking about this long-gone band, yet not ready to be forgotten. "Wizard of Gore" honestly deserves the title of "Mandatory getting or killing yourself".

Tracks: 1)MURDER CORPORATION "Boneyard" 2)BLOOD DUSTER "Dis-organ-ized" 3)MORTICIAN "Cannibal lust" 4)Machetazo "Mortado" 5)IMPALED "I work for the streetcleaner" 6)SANITYS DAWN "Heart of Illinois" 7)HAEMORRHAGE "Staph terrorist" 8)DEEPRED "Trap them and kill them" 9)VAMPIRIC MOTIVES "Sinister urge" 10)EXHUMED "Cannibal apocalypse" 11)VASTION "Harbinger of death" 12)REPUGNANCE "Zombie" 13)C.B.T. "Red wigglers" 14)LYMPHATIC PHLEGM "My Lai" 15)BLOOD "Wizard of gore" 16)ENGORGED "Dear uncle creepy" 17)INTENSE HAMMER RAGE "Defiling the grave" 18)WADGE "Venereal warts/The Belch" 19)LAST DAYS OF HUMANITY "Revenge of the scabby man" 20)MORGUE "My Lai" 21)INGROWING "Bitch death teenage mucous monster from hell" 22)DECEASED "Dis-organ-ized" 23)GORE BEYOND NECROPSY "Jan Fonda sucks" 24)MORBID SAVOURING "Intense mortification" 25)LIVIDITY "Bloody pit of horror" 26)C.S.S.O. IMPETIGO "Buio Omega" Cd/Cd-rom

(Obscene productions)
Release date: 2000
Total running time: 16:30
Review: This cd is a definite must-have for every self-respecting Impetigo freak. First it contains rare material, from their cult "Buio Omega" ep (named after Joe d'Amato's sleazy necrophilic masterpiece) recorded in 89. Even if you haven't heard this ep before, you probably know all those classical songs (See tracks list). Their terrific death-grind on this ep is totally creepy, with a raw grindy vibe from hell. You also have 3 extra early live tracks taken from the rather recent split ep with Transgressor ("Primitives"). It's excellent. But the best is the bonus stuff included if you read it as a cd-rom: you have 3 mpeg live video from Impetigo's gigs ("My Lay"-mistitled "This is my life", "Dis-organized" & "Jane Fonda sucks"), an extensive photo gallery, discography info, biography and more... The booklet of the cd is also really great, packaged with band pics, some words from Stevo about "Buio Omega" ep, and lyrics. Man it's like a great horror DVD with tons of extra bonus. A perfect release, everyone should get it. One last word about the artwork: this cd have a new cover artwork different from the Ep. Unfortunately the Ep cover is not included. (It would have been great!)

Tracks: 1)Harbinger of death 2)Revenge of the scabby man 3)Dear uncle Creepy 4)Bitch death teenage mucous monster from hell 5)HBO Theme/Who's fucking who? (live) 6)My Lai 7)Jane Fonda sucks + Cd-rom bonuses

IMPETIGO "Faceless" Mcd

(Morbid records)
Release date: 2000
Total running time: 13:55

Review: Here's latest Morbid Records release in the ongoing series of Impetigo re-issues. The first good point of this re-issue is the brand new cover artwork by Chas Balun, which is amazing. Slighty inspired by Jess Franco's "Faceless" (sick cheesy horror movie); like the title song of the EP. This was originally out in 1992 before "Horror of the zombies" and after "Ultimo mondo cannibale", it was mainly consisting in a two parts song unavailable on other recordings: "Sinister urge" (fast and short in first LP vein) and "Faceless" (long and moderate tempo stylish song in second album vein) plus 3 re-recorded new powerful versions of "Ultimo mondo cannibale" songs (the best ones from the first LP in my mind) with a new shivering intro for "Bloody pit of horror". Everything was recorded in the same studio as the then upcoming "Horror of the zombies"... the bone-chilling dark sludgy Autopsy-like sound is preserved. I don't think this EP has ever been available in cd before. Morbid Records really did a good job there. Plus, everything by Impetigo is collectable, so, just go get it. There's gonna be a "Faceless" picture vinyl EP version out soon too. Might be nice!

Tracks: 1)Sinister urge/Faceless 2)Dis-organ-ized 3)Bloody pit of horror 4)Mortado

IMPETIGO/INGROWING Split Cd

(Bizarre Leprous Records)
Release date: 1999
Total running time: 31:25

Impetigo
"Late night necrophiliac fun" Review: Well Mark told me the sound wasn't gonna be great on this live material but it's not that bad. Sound on guitars and drums are rather powerful, the vocals are just a little not well-balanced in the mix. But that doesn't matter for me, because listening to that live version of "I work for the street cleaner" is so heart-breaking. It's just a classic song, I know the lyrics by heart. It's a great song, anyway... well right all the songs featuring on "Horror of the zomies" are awesome. It has the Impetigo dirty sludgy sound trademark. It's Impetigo and it's awesome. The front cover is so great, full colour necrophiliac stuff, even the inside thanks list sheet is great, with blood-dripping calligraphy and all.... It's a must-have for all true Impetigo freak, because the Ingrowing side is also Impetigo-esque.
Tracks: 1)I work for the street cleaner

Ingrowing "Peristaltica IX" Review: Yep! Well this is great... Even more powerful than their "Cyberspace" album. Great metal death-grind with clear sound, tight drums, powerful heavy guitar riffs, vulgar growling vocals.... Just 2 songs; the second one is one great Impetigo cover version... excellent.
Tracks: 2)Peristaltica IX 3)Bitch death teenage mucous monster from hell

IMPETIGO "All we need is cheez" Official live demo '87 - Re-issue Cd

(Bizarre Leprous Records)
Release date: 1999
Total running time: 31:25

Review:
Oh. Tis is first Impetigo demo re-issued on cd; live material from 1987! And man, this makes me feel nostalgic even though I actually didn't know the band at all at that time (was very young then, to say the truth huh...). Anyway, Stevo was the man, you feel he knew how to warm up an audience! You don't hear the audience so well on this recording, but anyway Stevo can't stop talking between the songs, and you instantly get into the funny show mood, it's really really funny. If you know 1990 Impetigo LP "Ultimo Mondo Cannibale", be sure they were already as good in 1987. Pioneers of all death metal, grind, gore and even noisecore... Vocals were clearer than in their late records but it was already damn twisted and insane! They certainly had 8Os dirty metal & hardcore-punk influences. But they were really intense and unique then, and had a great goofy and cheesy tone. You're forced to erige them on to the pantheon of late 80s most interesting bands (with Repulsion, Napalm Death, Carcass & co...), the bands who really count! You'll find a bunch of classics like "My lai", "Revenge of the scabby man" & "Harbinger of death"... plus some goodies you can't find of other releases, like this "I hate you" cover version of some skinhead Verbal Abuse song, but to turn it into an anti-nazi message: "I hate you too". Must-have re-issue cd to really understand the humour of the band.

Tracks: 1)Who's Fucking Who 2)Mr. Ed 3)My Lai 4)Morticia's Frump - Bad Dreams 5)All Night Dragnet 6)Hey Jeff, What's Up? 7)Creditors' Retribution 8)The Belch 9)Revenge of the Scabby Man 10)I Hate You 11)Harbinger of Death 12)Disgracing the Family Name

IMPETIGO "Horror of the zombies" Cd

(Wild Rags Records)
Release date: 1992

Review:
This second Impetigo full length is an authentic cult album... Beyond music, "Horror of the zombies" emanates a frightening atmosphere, similar to low bugdets horror/gore flicks of H.G. Lewis, Ruggero Deodato, Lucio Fulci etc... which are sometimes used as interludes; But music itself also provides a terrible horrific mood, and the whole fits perfectly together with the wonderful horror inspired lyrics and typically underground, but killer cover art (fleshcraving zombies in the fog)... they were pure geniuses! In fact, Impetigo sounds like Autopsy and early Carcass in the same time... This is not as brutal as on the first album, they tried to make their music the sicker they could... Rythms are fast, slow or midtempo. Guitar sound isn't very loud but rather thrashy... And then, Stevo's vocals are not as extreme and varied as on "Ultimo Mondo Cannibale" but still pretty sick and effective. Note an exception to the other tracks with "Cannibale ballet", which is a weird song where you can only hear tribal percussions and low pitched harmonized vocals narrating a nasty cannibal tale. Anyway, this is a wonderful cult album... "Boneyard", "I work for the streetcleaner", "Defiling the grave" and "Breakfast at Manchester morgue" are indispensable songs in gore/death/grind underground history. This is an unquestionable classic and I'm never getting bored of it!

Tracks: 1)Boneyard 2)I work for the street cleaner 3)Wizard of gore 4)Mortuaria 5)Cannibale ballet 6)Trap them and kill them 7)Cannibal lust 8)Defiling the grave 9)Staph terrorist 10)Breakfast at Manchester morgue
