HAEMORRHAGE
INTERVIEW (July
1998)
Taken from the Goregrind and Grindcore Webzine (http://come.to/grindcore)
Interview with Luisma - by Pierre - through mail.
- So
a third cd is coming soon? Did you write many songs since
Grume? How is your musical evolution? faster? more slowy?
or more groovy?
- Yes, a third cd is coming
soon. We'd like to finish the recording in september but
we could delay everything a bit, because our drummer
Rojas broke his finger and he will be out for a month.
Then we've to wait to see how does it heal, and practice
again. Yes, we've written many songs since "Grume".
Some other songs will be placed on split eps and other
will be forgotten and they will exist only on some
rehearsal tapes.
- There isn't a big
difference between our new stuff and our old stuff. It's
still fast, intense and there's groove of corpse. Anyway,
we won't wimp out... we'll be the sick Haemorrhage you
already know.
- What
other releases are coming up? I heard about a split 7"
with Groinchurn...
- Yes, we'll release three
split eps soon: Haemo./Groinchurn (Morbid Records), Haemo./Denak
(Upground rec.), Haemo./Anal Getaway (on a czech label).
Every one of these split eps will have covers or
unreleased tracks so I think they're quite interesting.
- Sound
on "Grume" is very good, better than on "Emetic
cult". New recordings will get an even better sound?
Do you always go to the same studios?
- Yes, we have to get a good
sound for our new album so we will go to "Gore actor"
studios again. We recorded all the stuff for the split
eps plus 14 old songs in that studio some months ago. We
took 2 days to record, mix and master it all and it
sounds incredible! We'll go there for the next one. The
problem in Spain is finding a studio that understand the
music we play, and getting a filthy + brutal sound. That
was the mistake on "Emetic cult" I think.
- Do
you know how your two cds have been selling?
- We don't know. But we sell
like shit compared to Cradle of Filth or any big or
trendy band, but our sells are ok for a non-trendy style
as grind gore is. It's difficult to say because there's
some licensed editions in countries like Poland; etc...
If after all we sell 5000 copies we will be happy. I
think we could be near (including cds, tapes and pic. LP)
50 it's ok. Anyway, ask to Morbid recs. ha,ha,ha.
- Can
you say a short word about band's history? From which
other bands Haem. members come from, and is there some
paralel bands to Haem.?
- Well we started in 1990. We
played noisy grind in our begining under the nicker of
"Intestinal Convulsion" (We changed because it
sounded like Afflicted Convulsion from Sweden-then called
Afflicted) then "Devourment" and then "Haemorrhage"
(there was a band in Poland with the same name). We were
16 or 15 when we started. The formers were Jose (drums in
"Emetic..") and me. Then, in 1993 Lugubrious
joined the band after the disolution of his band
Lugubrious. Short after Ramon and Ana joined us. Ramon
played in a grind band called Greenfly with our new
drummer Rojas in those days. Then this band split up and
Ramon played in a hardcore/punk-rock band "20 years
old". I played with "Avulsed" from 1992 to
1994, and Ana played in a thrash band called "Mortal
Housen" (She was the singer)
- You
released one demo before "Emetic cult"... and
maybe others(?). Do you think rerelease this material one
day on cd (or whatever)? like Dead Infection did with
their demos...
- Yes, we have ademo "Grotesque
embryopathology" recorded in 1992. It has a horrible
sound and the songs which are contained in it appears on
"Emetic cult" but with a better sound, so it's
impossible we release that demo on cd. Although we had an
offer to do it sometime ago.
- Which
song do you think being the best Haemorrhage song???
- I don't know. I like all of
them, although people seems to have predilection for
"Decomposers", "Excavating the iliac fossa",
"Dissect, Exhume, Devour..." or "Rectovaginal
fistula". The most covered song is "Uncontrollable
proliferation of neoplasm" which has been covered
for four or five bands.
- Do
you play gigs very often? Some Haemorrhage shows coming
up?
- No we don't like to play
gigs very often. We just play for fun and when we have
the need to do it. Now we had 3 shows planned in Spain
and I've been asked for more, but we can't play because
of our drummer's finger.
- I just want to concentrate
in the new album and then go on the Grind over Europe 3
tour with Brutal Truth, Agathocles and Groinchurn, but we
want our new album finished at first.
- How
your shows look like? Do Lugubrious always paint his body
with blood?
- Maybe have you seen some
live phtos from live show or photos from the booklet of
"Grume" So Lugubrious paints his body with
blood... it's called "Bloodbath" by me, ha,ha...
and we play with surgeon clothes and make up but
Lugubrious always use it... He's a sick guy. If
there is no blood there is no show!
- Your
top 5 best albums of all times:
- CARCASS "Reek of
putrefaction" + REPULSION "Horrified" +
GENERAL SURGERY "Necrology" + TERRORIZER "World
downfall" + CARNAGE "Dark recollactions"...
This could be the first five on mylist, but there will be
other as good as these like the first Impetigo album,
Autopsy, Napalm Death, etc...
- You
(Luisma) drawn some bloody artwork for Grume booklet...
will some new drawings come with next releases?
- Yes, I've drawn some
artwork for Haemorrhage in the past, an I would like to
do it for the next one. Because people likes these
drawings. By now, I've drawn the cover for Haemo./Groinchurn
split ep
- From
where come the "Emetic cult" intro "Nekromantik"?
from a movie, or was it composed specially for
Haemorrhage?
- We took that intro from the
movie "Nekromantik". We are totally into that
movie when we did our first album. It could be great to
get more music from this movie cause it has a very
emotional music...
- What
do you do outside the band?
- We all work to get our life.
haemorrhage gives us no money to live, so we must earn
our money working like the rest of the world try to do.
- Your
lyrics are pathological and gore... but there's a note on
Grume like fuck nazis, fascists, sexists... and animal
tortures... but I'd like to know if some of you were
vegetarian or vegan?
- No we are not vegetarian.
Only Ana was some time eating just vegetals. It's quite
difficult in Spain to be vegetarian, because there's no
tradition in veganism, etc... But I try to eat the less
meat I can. We are against the animal torture like
bullfights. This is really stupid-kill animals just for
fun.
- Most
of vocals in Haemorrhage are very screamy (the gruntroars
and effects can be considered as backing vocals...) and
sounds a bit like black metal vocals... Is it to attract
black metal listeners? Do you know if some black metal
listeners like your music? And do you like black metal?
- Our invention wasn't to
attract black metal listeners. That's the way our singer
do his vocal parts, we can't mix black metal with
grindcore. We sing this way from the beginning... It's
our style. Yes, I know some black metal people likes
Haemorrhage and I don't care. I think everybody could
listen to whatever they want... I obviously think our
music is better than all that ambient stuff like Mortiis,
last Burzum album, etc... ha,ha...
- Yes I like some black metal
albums like the first Immortal album, Dark throne, etc...
But we don't want to be involved with black metal we came
from another scene.
- Have
you got something to say about Spain? underground spanish
scene or whatever?
- Nothing really important.
There are lots of bands with a great level like Denak,
Unnatural, Machetazo, the Art of butchery, Difenacum,
Ironia, Jigsore, etc... A very small promotion so the
most of them are only known in Spain. We were lucky
releasing stuff on foreign labels our band has been
promoted very well in Europe and we receive letters from
fans of far countries like Japan, Brasil, Australia, U.S.,
Columbia, etc...
- Some
words to finish the interview...
- Thanks to you Pierre...
Thanks for the interview and the space in the net... you
fuckin' rule!! Stay sick! Long live to Goregrind and
Grindcore!!! See you...
