HEMDALE/EXHUMED "In the name of gore" Cd

  (Visceral Productions)
Release date: 1996

Hemdale Review: This split cd is a milestone in GoreCore genre. Two now legendary american bands, both definitely gory, crushing and grinding, both in a different personal original way. Served with a beautiful visual and unforgettable cover, close-up to a plateful of bloodied guts. The cd starts off with Hemdale from Ohio... their killer grind hit "Delicious gory fun" sets the mood. Perfect instrumental handling serving musical butchery. A sound production clear and powerful, but not too much. Quality fast and blast parts, frenzy growls answering to weirdo screams. Also using a whole bunch of slow agonizing parts to calm the grind fury, but in a totally dirty gore way too. Hemdale had a trademark treatment of good old grind-death style. One of the most talented and exciting grind-death-gore band around for years, too bad they broke up. I loved their truly personal way to play, together with their delightful dark sense of humour. Their side of this split is their most accomplished work ever. A must-hear for all of you suckers.
Tracks: 1)Delicious Gory Fun 2)Pus Filled Carcass 3)Overflow 4)Bathing In Mucus and Bile 5)Tasty Hemorrhoidal Tissue 6)Brutally Maulled Human Remains 7)Succulent Torso Crescendo 8)It Burns... and It Just Plain Smells Bad 9)Are You Pornophoric 10)Demented Surgical Incest 11)Artificial Masturbation 12)Licking Mental Patients' Cum Off the Sheets 13)Curse the Gods (Destruction cover)

Exhumed Review: Exhumed is excellent too. Faster and more obscure than Hemdale. Everything I expect from a good gore band... Fastness, gory vocals (really refined growls and manic screams), tortured song structures and total grindcore spirit (alot of humour). They inherited alot from early Carcass. They have the same sound and intensity. And the witty fun-filled pathological lyrics as well (with more necrophilia and depravity through it though). This split cd is something you have to hear.

HIDEOUS MANGLEUS "All your friends are dead" Cd

  (Ecocentric Records)
Release date: 1998

Review: The band claims to be playing some kind of "American Horror-Core"... But obviously, Hideous Mangleus is just into plain and simple grind-death. This album happens to comprise 60 minutes of downright beatblastings, relentless guitar riffs, roaring growls, everything with a cool rock n' roll touch... The heaviness of this record can be a very hard strike to cranial contents; literally pounding down cerebral matter, turning it to sticky, gooey soup. This isn't really ultrafast in early Napalm Death way, but they manage to keep beating the crap out of their drum kit throughout the whole record... in a truly percussive and heavy way. The band has been playing this kind of extreme metal in the late 80's/early 90's, they released a few demo(s) and eps... They have now given it up, but I guess they were some kind of pioneers at that time huh? This album is some kind of testament, it contains all the band's material with a new powerful studio treatment. Lyrics are about sick topics, but with a big dose of humour, and an interesting witty writing style, not the habitual boring gore stuff. Plus they made a great effort for cover ideas, design and all... I know this album have been delayed for about one year... It's been really well-worked on all points. It has 30 songs, about 60 minutes running time (with only studio material!): it's really dense and heavy. I truly think this band is very unique and talented. This cd is filled to the brim of excellent death-grind goodness. Hope you all wanna discover them. Get this album ASAP.

Tracks: 1)Play dumb 2)Gnawing at your guts 3)Experiments(in the morgue) 4)Self devourment 5)Body bag 6)Degeneration 7)Mutated 8)Deadtime 9)Burning children 10)Malignant ignorance 11)Allergic 12)Cranial disrupture 13)Nutra-death 14)Technological abortion 15)Mutiny 16)Sickening 17)Support the core 18)Reforming(cold limbs) 19)Child funeral 20)Eldraphobic 21)Retarded 22)Teenage leper 23)Infravision 24)Naive world 25)Question your motives 26)Divine intervention 27)Skullfuck 28)Too fast for love 29)Season of the dead

HOGCALLER/HEADCRASH SPlit Cd

(Last House on the Right - HAUS 022)
Release date: 2005
Running time: 18:42

Hogcaller Review:
Hogcaller's got some ex-Exit 13 personel in it, and you'll definitely hear a few similar characterics here although this is much rougher, basic and lof-fi material... I'd describe this as manic and eccentric grindcore, with pounding drum-machine rhythms, rapid, squeaking vocals, discordant alien shrieks, scorching distorted, fuzzed out catchy guitar riffs... Plain weird, raw, noisy and aggressive kind of stuff... but with a unique, unsettling and sort of surrealistic (probably drug-induced) aura about it... If I had to, I'd compare this to a really bizarre version of Total Fucking Destruction... Of and here's a release I would loved to have a lyrics sheet for once!!!
Headcrash Review: Headcrash plays much more obvious sounding drum-machine grind. Very straightforward grind riffs, drums blasts and then spewing, retching type of vocals with tons of effects... This is decent stuff, at least much better than an old demo I remember hearing from them... Not the most groundbreaking thing ever but a couple of neat little raging grind songs! Not a bad split cd at all then!

Tracks: Hogcaller: 1)Proper Parasite Mannerisms 2)Hanging The Entrails (Blood Sausages) 3)The Black Oracle Of Poseidon's Daughter 4)Fall From Bridge High Up 5)Touched By Tentacles 6)Don't Talk Just Listen To Me 7)The Cause
Headcrash: 8)When Paranoia STeps In/Mental Error/Senseless Terror/Read to Kill 9)Brainshift 10)Spirituosal Healing 11)Locked & Mindfucked

HOLOCAUSTO CANIBAL "Gonorreia Visceral" Cd

  (So Die Music)
Release date: 2000
Total running time: 18:29

Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this record. It has grind & death elements mixed with the use of a fat, growling type of vocals, and occasionally twisted backing screamy goodness. Guitar parts are quite well-performed, but would maybe recquire a more powerful/thrashy treatment. Same for the drums, which are although quite sharp and swift... The whole thing has a clear sound, but finally, it's not so powerful... Maybe more rawness would make it better! Well, some songs have great grindcore structures, but some others also remind me more of Cannibal Corpse or Morbid Angel works... (unfortunately). It's not perfect, but I'm far from disappointed. It's not bad at all. These sick guys shamelessly use sickening gory intros, or even a "girl during orgasm" interlude. Too many intros for such a short running time in my mind, but in the other hand, the very long sampe from Braindead (fucking lawnmower massacre!!!) really overjoyed me! The cd cover is kinda pro-printed in full colours (blood-red for the major part), with gross collages of snuff corpses, bloodsoaked naked girls and horror movie pix (mostly picked on sites like goregallery.com, I knew 80% of the shit). The problem is that their selection and collage of images is definitely artless, not original... I think it's something gore bands should definitely work out! If not, who the fuck is gonna take it seriously? And the same real corpse pix material used so many times by many bands definitely start to get on my nerves. Anyway, that's it for this review, I guess most of the blind GoreCore worshippers among you should dig it. Note that the name of this portugese band is a reference to Ruggero Deodato's masterpiece. (See band contact below)

HUTT "Sessão Descarrego" Cd

(2+2=5 - 2+2=16)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 30:51

Review:
Hutt comes from Brazil and plays nifty grind with a violent and modern edge to it, it pretty much reminds me of Abstain or Nasum, totally fast-paced and blasting but not without its fair share of groove... Compositions are mostly based around blazing speed, with lots of breakdowns and a kind of restless, unrelenting, nervous vibe... Vocals really take the foremost place here with tons and tons of roaring dual raspy grunting/high shrieking assaults... Just angry shouting matches all over the place... Surging, grinding guitar riffs, furious drumming... This is very intense stuff for sure, it really kills... Sound production is quite nice and clear, but with a slightly abrasive penchant, in a treble-heavy way... Lyrics are in portugese so I can't really comment on those... But the cd booklet is filled with cool horror comic style graphics and the front cover is also quite lovely (featuring the unmistakable machete zombie from Dawn of the Dead!) Overall, I'd say this is a very well-crated cd and some mighty fine, highly energetic grindcore, definitely worthy of attention!
