General Surgery Review:
General Surgery finally returns, for good this time... and they haven't lost it. "Necrology" is one of my all-time faves and it feels really amazing finally being able to hear brand new material... What I can say about these 7 new tracks is that their music have become slightly more complex and not as clear-cut as their classics, but essentially they sound very much the same they did about 10 years ago. Vocals didn't budge an ounce, they still have the same ravaging impact, with a mix of throat-ripping shrieks and thick guttural roars and with on occasion a pinch of abrasive vocal effects (I think they're effects, I can't tell for sure...), often forming some kind of harsh and loud chorus. The overall aggressivity of it all is also intact, with way heavy riffs, all thrashing and destructive, tight nervous drumming, pounding and smashing all the way... Like I said, they're basicly the same as ever, borrowing heavily from Carcass and injecting a lot of late1980's/early 1990's swedish death metal (early Entombed) into it... Although I'd say maybe they got even closer to Carcass now with slightly more intricate and chaotic song structures... As could be expected, the lyrics are still full-on pathological, with a gleeful emphasis on gore and carnage, and a pronounced sense of humor as well. I really got a kick out of this, the band is always so refreshing, effective, quite funny and clever as well... This release reinstates them as one of the best bands around today, let's hope they stay together a bit longer than last time!
The County Medical Examiners Review: The County Medical Examiners are the perfect match to General Surgery on this split release. The band is certainly the most faithful "impersonation" of Carcass, era "Symphonies of Sickness" that I know of ; When you come down to it, The County Medical Examiners works alot like an extension to pre-1990 Carcass. The obsession for detail is most impressive, with many parts derived or almost replicated from the Carcass oeuvre; these are veritable variations on Carcass songs, sometimes expanding on a riff or playing it in a different tonality. A good example is the main riff from "Cooperative cadaveric custody" which owes alot to "Exhume to Consume", and on a different level, "Prospector's bane: creutzfeldt-jacob disease" which reminds me a little of "Hepatic Tissue Fermentation" (my all-time favorite Carcass song by the way). The County Medical Examiners songs are not as distinctive as Carcass' songs were, but this band definitely pin-pointed the right amount of grinding ferocity and morbid melody to create the illusion, the result is slightly formal and cold but all the elements are here, down to the complex and intricate song structures, the guitar riffs played with surgical precision, the swift, skilful and often very fast drumming, the repugnant vocals composed of slightly gurgled, splattery squeaks and deep guttural roars. The atmosphere is decidely macabre and chilling to the bone, fitting seemlessly the gloomy lyrical contents, all written in proper clinical terms but never sparing gruesome details. Overall, I'd say the band just refined their art since "Forensic Fugues and Medicolegal Medleys", these new songs have a more natural flow and tighter feel to them. The band apparently welcomed a new bassist, musically that's pretty unnoticeable but this new bassist a lot less cute than the last one... Oh well... I'll just thank both bands for joining forces to create this brilliant split release, one of this year highlight for sure.

General Surgery Tracks: 1)Pre-bisectal corrosive immersion 2)Mortuary wars 3)Cauterization frenzy 4)Reception of cadavers 6)Decomposer 7)Convivial corpse disposal methology/Severe catatonic intersection of pathological activities

GENERAL SURGERY "Necrology" Mcd

  (Relapse Records)
Release date: 1993

General SurgeryReview:
That's probably the best Carcass clone ever. This short album is historical. Of course, it has members from Dismember & Afflicted, so General Surgery is more like an hybrid between Carcass and big swedish death metal. But this combination is a winner. It's heavy, thrashy and powerful, and also fast, chaotic and grindcory when it has to be. Lyrics are really exciting, as humourous as medically acurate and pathologically deliquescent.
The introductive instrumental song is clearly General Surgery's translation of Carcass "Genital Grinder". For the rest, alot of guitar riffs have the same Carcass thrilling feel of morbidity, but overall, songs are much more basic and brutal than any of Carcass'. Manic mid-high screams, grotesque trollish vocal effects, outrageously down-tuned guitars, big-ass drum arsenal. In that, they're somewhat more catchy than Carcass, because less complicated. It's just so much fun!
I don't know why some people have a problem with Carcass clones, they're so rare, and always so brilliant. Brutal Death Metal bands all sound the same and no one seems to care. It's just... Carcass early works are explemplary, I totally understand the will to recreate such magic, and the magic works perfectly with General Surgery. "Necrology" is one of my all-time favorites.

Tracks: 1)Ominous lamentation(intro) 2)Slithering maceration of ulcerous facial tissue 3)Grotesque laceration of mortified flesh 4)Severe catatonia in pathology 5)Crimson concerto 6)The succulent aftermath of a subdural hemorrhage 7)An orgy of flying limbs and gore
Sounds: "Severe Catatonia in Pathology" Mp3

GORE "Consumed by slow decay" Cd

  Release date: 1996

Review:
Gore is a typical sick goregrind band in Exulceration, Dead infection or Regurgitate vein. The band had some demos out before the release of this debut album, probably in a gory way too, but I didn't have the chance to listen to them... Here is a truly 'professional' result, with effective and clear compositions, good sound production; catchy, grinding and raw: with a thrashing guitar work, varied enough ryhtms (ultra-fast, midtempo or slow), grotesquely pitch-pitched vocals(marvelous gut-wrenching vocal effects)... A few beautiful morbid melodic guitar solos even pop up between brutal primitive parts from time to time! Again, the sound isreal good, the intros aren't too annoying, and quite well-picked up (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), a sick artwork and  blood-soaked lyrics... This cd is quite hard to find, but it's a masterpiece in the Goregrind genre, if you find one copy left anywhere... don't hesitate!!!

Tracks: 1)Fetus jejunii 2)Incomplete evacuation 3)Hysterical extraction of facial tissue 4)Intestinal pestilence 5)Dissimulated incabation and maximium infection 6)Phlatulent manifestation of alcaligenes feacalis 7)Exposed guts 8)Syndrome of intensive regurgitation 9)Attenuated mutant worms 10)Inquisitive corporal recremation 11)Unfinished radiation 12)Frenetic fetichism for human pieces in decomposition 13)Human limbs mutilated 14)Cicle of suffocation 15)Cannibal zoophilism with extreme sexual aberration 16)Consummated cancer

GOREROTTED "Mutilated in Minutes" Cd

(Dead Again Records/Relapse Records)
Release date:
2002

Review:
I hadn't heard this in its original release... Now it has just been re-released by Dead Again & Relapse Records and given a brand new cover art and packaging by the great Tales from Uranus comic book artist... So, Gorerotted is from UK and they've been compared to Carcass alot, especially for that reason I think; Though personally, I found them to be closer musically to Cannibal Corpse, albeit from their finest period ("Tomb of the Mutilated")... It's fast-paced, gory and brutal death metal. The guitar work is solid and technical, the drumming is tight and catchy, there's a great sense of speed and intensity and their sound is sharp as well as heavy... Vocals are dual growls and manic mid-high screams (maybe the other thing that makes people compare them to Carcass). Lyrics are pretty gruesome and gory, again kinda like Cannibal Corpse. It's fine and exciting brutal death metal in my opinion... This release is just neat and enjoyable gory fun! Best death metal stuff in a long time too.

Tracks: 1)Hacksore 2)Bed 'em, Behead 'em 3)Stab me till I cum 4)Cut, gut, beaten, eaten 4)Corpse fucking art 6)Put your bits in a concrete mix 7)Mutilated in minutes, severed in seconds 8)Gagged, shagged, bodubagged 9)Severed, sawn and sold as porn

GORELAND Cd

(Black Hole Productions - BHP 006)
Release date:
2002

Review:
This, is a compilation about gore-grind. First thing, amazing artwork! The whole cd cover is very neatly designed and filled with graphics by Jake (Tales from Uranus), it just looks killer. There's also a little text, kind of a explanatory bit about gore-grind! Pretty fun. This compilation showcases some of the most apalling bands in history but it's nonetheless tastefully layed out and presented! So, well there's a ton of bands here, all grinding in various ways, all pretty insane and stuff... you can't go wrong with this cd, I'm sure you'll discover a few things you didn't know and have fun with the whole thing. My own personal favorite has to be Noisecore Freak, it's the less gore-oriented thing on this cd but by far the most original one, in a extremely effective industrial noise-core vein - a cool discovery for me. Other favorites of mine are Lymphatic Phlegm, Microphallus, Butcher ABC, Luteous, Pigsty, Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage... But yeah, there's more! The whole thing is a great listen from start to finish. You've also got big guns like The County Medical Examiners, Last Days of Humanity, Regurgitate, Rompeprop, Gruesome Stuff Relish Haemorrhage, Ghoul but they need no introduction I guess, they're always fun and clearly the ones with the better sound production. I'm not certain how much is unheard material, but I know for sure that at least my Blue Holocaust track is exclusive to this comp. So, here you go! One great compilation to boost, very representative of the actual gore scene, genius artwork, tons of bands & a great running time. What more can you ask for?

Tracks: 1)Lymphatic Phlegm "Chronic Necphrolithiasis Followed by Perinephritic Suppuration" 2)Decomposing Serenity "Bubbles of Blood" 3)Microphallus "Evelyn Corbin (Victim # 10) 4)The County Medical Examiners "Vitreous Humor" 5)Feculent Goretomb "Chronic Evacuation of Semi-Disgested Aliments" 6)Oxidised Razor "Anal Carnage" 7)Last Days of Humanity "Suppurated Sublimisation" 8)Autophagia "Syringa Necrose Your Cerebral with Psychopharmaka" 9)Blue Holocaust "The Fifth Cord" 10)Cativeiro "The Great Hidden Power of a Decaying Torso" 11)Regurgitate "Goregeous Epithelioma" 12)Disgorge (Mex) "Excremential Lust" 13)Rompeprop "Dislocated Purple Stoma" 14)Pigsty "Deviant in your Bath" 15)Gruesome Stuff Relish "El Duce Inn Massacre" 16)Reek of Shits "The Oversalted Menses" 17)Haemorrhage " Obnoxious (Surgeon of the Dead)" 18)Mincing Fury and Guttural Clamour of the Queer Decay "Confinement" 19)Butcher ABC "Dozen of Dismembered Torsos" 20)Ghoul "Ghoulhunter" 21)Grossmember "Mind Collapse System" 22)Luteous "Grinding Flesh" 23)Noisecore Freak "Harsh Bedwire" 24)Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage "Delicate Punctured Organ" 25)Amoebic Dysentery "Masturbatory Mastication" 26)Gross "Bred by the Dead" 27)Spineless "Ode to Gore (Part 4)" 28)Meatknife "Fingered and Fistfucked" 29)Fuck the Facts "The Burning Side"

GRINDWORK - NASUM/RETALIATION/VIVISECTION/CLOTTED SYMMETRIC SEXUAL ORGAN 4-Way Split Cd

(Grindwork Productions)
Release date: 1994

Review:
This is 4-way split mcd featuring 4 major Grind bands. First is Nasum (Sweden), into social grindcore we all know quite well, early Napalm Death way... 8 of their finest and most brutal songs ever, violent grindcore with neat and powerful metal sound production... Retaliation, from Sweden too, comes next, they play really great and sick gore/grind - Regurgitate way, this is my favorite band on the cd; the vocal effects are real splattery and gurgly, songs are short and always fats and brutal... One of the Finest Gore/Grind I've heard! Third band, japanese Vivisection is also enjoyable, more in a classic grindcore(a tiny bit hc) style, with extreme screamy/roaring Grind vocals, fast songs in SxOxB vein, but, kinda funnier... C.S.S.O.(Jap). then assures the big finish... I think you know how they sound... psychotic Goregrind, great vocal effects, but not as many funny & pop parts as on other C.S.S.O. releases... They were also really great this way! Long Sold out. Released by Mieszko(Nasum)'s Grindwork Productions, now defunct I think. Look for it, buy it, dub it, trade it, do what you want but get this one by any way!

Nasum Tracks: My Fear, Fur, A Game Played By Society, It's All About The Information, Smile When You're Dead, Blindfolded (By The Media), Erased, Warfuck.
