CEPHALIC CARNAGE "Lucid Interval" tracks

(Relapse Records)
Release date:
2002

Review:
Basicly, Cephalic Carnage is progressive brutal death metal band that's often pretty messy but very well-produced. They indeed have a big sound, heavy, technical riffs, tight, fast drumming and furious growling and shrieking vocals. Song structures are all particularly original, going in every unpredictable direction possible. In the end, their stuff is very tough to swallow and the general lack focus prevents it to be a truly effective experience. i find this to be delirious, innovative brutal death metal, but I won't play this very often to be honest. The band's really unique though, this album is the exact same as their previous albums.

Tracks: 1. Scolopendra Cingulata 2. Fortuitous Oddity 3. Anthro Emesis 4. The Isle Of California 5. Pseudo 6. Friend Of Mine 7. Rebellion 8. Zuno Gyakusatsu 9. Black Metal Sabbath 10. Cannabism 11. Lucid Interval 12. Misguided 13. Redundant 14. Arsonist Savior

CEPHALIC CARNAGE "Exploiting Dysfunction"

(Relapse Records)
Release date: 2000

Review: Cephalic Carnage is about badly stretching basic brutal death metal song structures in as many various and twisted ways as possible. Their style is amorphous and you can never anticipate what you're about to hear. That's pretty regular, thick, perfectly handled heavy blasting death metal, with alternated deep growls/manic screams, heavy guitars and sharp drums, until they decide to bend the concept, abruptly injecting weird sound effects or some soft guitar parts... only to start off again with a barbaric ultraviolent brutal death blast; and maybe end more calmly with either some mutant riffs or a magnified guitar solo. It's some kind of schizophrenic metal, very complicated, technical and also wild and frenzied on the other hand. You never know what to expect, and so you'll find a 6 seconds track followed by a 5 minutes song. Every track on this album transfigure the genre, and trangress the genre's norms in a different way. Really fascinating, unique and performed by talented musicians. To refer to other bands, they have the Exit 13 musical extravagances mixed with Dying Fetus tight brutal death power. And then, the sound treatment is just flawless, you just have to press play and enjoy the crazy ride. I really had a blast reading the lyrics and the absurd artwork is also really neat, completely insane. Get it if you wanna have a taste of weird on top brutal death, you won't be disappointed.

Tracks: 1)Hybrid 2)Driven to insanity 3)Rehab 4)Observer to the obliteration of planet earth 5)On six 7)Cryptosporidium 8)The ballad of moon 9)Of smoke 10)Warm hand on a cold night (A tale of onesomes) 11)Inverted indica (The marijuana convictions) 12)Molestandos plantas muertos! 13)Eradicate authority 14)Paralyzed by fear 15)Exploiting dysfunction

CEPHALIC CARNAGE "Conforming to Abnormality"

(Headfucker Records)
Release date: 1998

Review: Cephalic Carnage plays a digest, naturally ultrabrutal death metal. Very easy to listen because of the big, tight, powerful, clear sound production and the fluid composition work balancing from very fast grinding blastbeating to rolling, slow and heavy, pounding parts. The clutching, low, deep growling vocals recite the lyrics, written under the influence of marijuana... And some shrieking, hateful screams are also used as backing vocals... Sound is so good; you can hear all the guitar riffs harshly ripping inside your brain, and the tight drums dissolving your eardrums like sulphuric acid... Cephalic Carnage most of the time sound like something close to Deeds of flesh/early Cannibal Corpse but is also able to surpass average death metal style reaching the insanity of brutal grindcore bands like Dismembered Fetus or even the jazzy/groovy originality of bands like Exit 13, everything depends of their state of mind... About the very few introductions; I found them very useless, badly serving the whole album... Anyway, if you look for a very good, original grinding brutal death metal mini-album, with more than decent technical musicianship, visceral brutality and great heavy sound production, check this insane "Conforming to abnormality" release... The total running time is less than 30 minutes but every second is a delight...

Tracks: 1)Anechoic chamber 2)Jihad 3)Analytical 4)Wither 5)Regalos de motta 6)Extreme of paranoia 7)A Z T 8)Waiting for the millenium
