Review: Turkish brutal death metal, a solid offering from Cenotaph... Musically this seems even more influenced by early Suffocation than in the past, a cross between "Effigy of the Forgotten" & "Breeding the Spawns"... Some pretty technical, thrashing and chunky guitar work, pounding and blasting drums with tons of breaks and tempo changes, vocals between Suffocation-type guttural growls and more roaring growls like Benediction and stuff... Intricate compositions and structuring work all around... Some pretty gripping rhythms and overall a very energic driving force, some deadening heaviness and brutality. Still, this honestly remains quite unoriginal and without many surprises, but with some great musicianship and songs that stay tight throughout, this album is an enjoyable listen... The sound production has a slightly dark edge but is all nice and clear enough to me anyway... They also definitely tightened their act regarding the artwork which is much more typical death metal fare but still much better than "Puked Genital Purulency" (which looked like just a bunch of internet gore pictures thrown together really quickly), song titles and lyrics are also slightly less ludicrous/meaningless... They given up intros too... and since they didn't use them especially well, it's all good news... I think their music style works better without intros anyway... To sum up, this is some pretty good work, perhaps more strictly destined to fans of Suffocation-type death metal... Certainly the best brutal death metal band out of Turkey, although I don't know that many more...

Review: Review: At last! Finest Turkish band, Cenotaph unleashed their second outrageous, gore-encrusted opus upon mankind! If you know their first cd, "Voluptuously minced", you'll be impressed by their evolution towards a grind-death of the most extreme kind! Leaded by relentless, fast and pounding blastbeat drums (which have a wonderful, earsplitting metallic sound by the way!), banking up sharp-edged guitar riffs and unreal twisted bass lines... It reminds me early Suffocation works alot, together with this new wave of death-grind (I think about bands like Vomit Remnants, Deeds of Flesh...). But Cenotaph has something more grindy in their compositions, and a vocalist with exceptional capacities uttering strong, profound, fucking brutal guttural growls! Some of the most brutal I ever heard (without effects) Right between Deranged and Mortician vocals. There are also some insane screamy backing vox intervening at judicious moments... Everything's played with scrupulous, skillful technical aptitudes... As well, the sound production and the mix are really great! Valorizing the heaviness, through the thrashy fast guitars; faultlessly suiting to the speed-crazed cadence of the drums. Cenotaph guys describe themselves as a gore-grind band, and this is some of the most brutal form of music ever, but there's still a big death metal sound! Gore aficionados will anyway be satisfied, without doubt! Their imagery is gorier than ever, and their lyrics are extremely violent, and pathological! They used many real dead bodies pictures (know www.goregallery.com?) and the 12 page booklet is full-couloured (mostly reddish in fact)... This is really sick, but I think they could try to work more the design, which is a little poor...This is a little bad point in my mind! Like the intros between EVERY songs; they are a little atmospheric and scary, but honestly useless most of time (as well, some parts of them reminded me some of the same intros used on Purulent Spermcanal "Puaka Balava" cd! strange co-incidence!). Anyway the music only is a perfection in gory grind-death to me! Ranking on the best death-grind records for 1999!

Review: Review: This album is the first professional death/grind album from Turkey. We can define this album as "the  faster version of  Suffocation-Breeding the spawn". This is 22 minutes in lenght and consists in 7 tracks and a  bizarre part. 5 tracks are from their "promo-cd" and the others are bonus. The sound quality of  the album is very good. The lyrics are gory but not pathological and you can never understand the lyrics from vocals. The cd cover is taken from an old horror film's poster. You also can find their lyrics in the cd. They send their thanks to many grind groups. (haemorhage, dead infection, c.s.s.o., etc). CENOTAPH and other grind listeners in Turkey (like me) has many problems with black-gothic listeners. So that Cenotaph sends their fucks to black-gothic listeners in the cd. Finally accourding to CENOTAPH, the other cenotaphs are no matter. (This is the best cenotaph.)
