Review: This spanking new grindcore band is not only tight and groovy... It's also played by bad-ass japanese girls! Great heavy guitar riffs with a slight death metal touch to 'em, a warm and full bass sound, some pretty hard-striking drums, quite grabbing rythms, furious vocals between shrill hysterical screams and excellent savage, animalistic low growlings (some of which definitely sound pitch-shifted though I'm not one hundred percent positive)... Songs are very well composed with thrashing parts, blasting parts and heavier parts, all of which quite expertly mingled together. It all flows amazingly well, it's aggressive as hell, there's some definite chemistry going on there and songs have real momentum... plus did I mention hot japanese chicks? Ok, anyway... Sound-wise things are totally loud and clear, I think it reminds me of SxOxB on "What's the Truth?" & "Gate of Doom" and more recent bands like 324, all of this tinted with a delightful touch of gore in early Carcass & General Surgery tradition and obviously an inimitable woman's touch on top on everything... The screaming parts sound a little too 'one-note' sometimes but whatever I totally love them anyway, they sound insane... The first demo sounds slightly muddier than the very neat second one but it's all more than listenable. Overall if you ask me, Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation is one of the most exciting bands I've heard in a while... I'd say musically they're just as talented as a band like Gruesome Stuff Relish for example... So just check them out, you know you want to, I mean... finally an all-female grind band! Methinks they're bound to get signed on a label sooner or later... Check out their website for an impressive live video clip too...

Review: This is awesome thrash/death metal, a mix of 1980's thrash metal style riffs with a touch of Engorged's fury and the gory vibe of Impetigo, Autopsy & early Carcass (the vocals often sound like a mixture of Stevo, Chris Riefert & Jeff Walker). Sound's raw as hell, this is really harsh, rehearsal type stuff but you really can feel the band's genuine energy and aggression here, song writing is really consistent and musicianship is quite alright too. In the end, this is gripping, morbid, brutal and basic speed thrash metal that really packs a punch. This cdr contains Ep material + 2 demo's... They're now signed on Razorback Records, which comes as no surprise, the band will feel right at home among the likes of Ghoul & Engorged... Funerot also have a refreshing sense of humor, some silly play on words and a knack for cool visuals, things like horror comic book art... Plus Funerot is a sweet band name and their logo... is such a brilliant looking logo! Check out their website too, I think it looks fantastic... Can't wait to hear more with maybe a clearer sound production... It should be really killer!

GARBAGE GUTS Cdr (Promo)

Review: Garbage Guts comes from Australia and plays some damn fine Goregrind. I'm basing this review on unreleased demo recordings deemed too rough for a proper release... This stuff is indeed quite raw but nonetheless, it sounds amazing to me, quite simply some of the best splatter gore grind I've heard in recent years. Incredibly catchy, wild, nasty & uncompromising... The use of vocal effects is systematic here in a manner similar to Last Days of Humanity but in my opinion slightly more dynamic and textured (less blunt). Guitar riffing is thrashing and incisive, with a great, crunchy sound, bass also has one of those cool-as-hell distorted sound, drumming is tight, sharp and often reaching very high speeds... all the right elements are here, though what makes this band ahead of most others in the genre is their composing skills... Songs are all really neatly written and memorable, cutting straight to the essential, with captivating rhythms, dense riffing... The ultrafast blastings and thrashing midtempos remind me of early Brutal Truth ("Extreme Conditions...") but done in a much more basic and expeditive way, closer to mid 90's Regurgitate. Judging from this demo and some additional live material, clearly Garbage Guts has alot of potential... A better demo is in the works and an album is possibly in the plans... Everyone should definitely look out for this band!

GERBOPHILIA "Ouille Ouille " Demo 2004 3" Cdr

Review: Gerbophilia out of Switzerland plays tight and metallic grind, with bad-ass riffing, clear-cut song structures, catchy and pretty often fast drumming, wacky screamy vocals (as well as occasional pitch-shifted growls and shouts too) and a major sense of humor. Musically it reminds me of Agathocles or even Terrorizer at times, but the band doesn't take itself too seriously hence also reminding me of stuff like Gronibard, it's got definite elements of fun to it, going to such lengths as parodying the theme from Rocky or french singer Renaud (!!). The sound production is quite nice and clear, this stuff clicks just about right, although I must say the vocals are pretty out there at times... Anyhow, an interesting band, their stuff is simply enjoyable.

Review: From the ever effervescing pits of japanese grindcore underground comes Gravuruit! The format of the release at hand is a short 4 song demo (kind of like the Flagitious Idiosyncrasy in the Dilapidation demo cdr's I reviewed recently)... Yeah it's quite short but it's just enough to already make me love this band... I put this stuff on repeat at the moment... Gravuruit has one of these totally old school vibes and one awesome, raw and abrasive sound... Straightforward song structures, buzzsaw guitars with a dark edge to em and a sort of really gritty texture, some basic and grinding drumming, a nice amount of groove, catchy tempo changes and grumpy low guttural growls laced with absurdly high-pitched hysterical screaming! Yes their style is comparable to some other japanese bands like Bathtub Shitter (especially them) or I.R.F. but maybe also stuff like Machetazo... One hell of a really cool grind band and that's about it! I really hope to hear more of this band in the future! Special thanks to Billy (Razorback) for hooking me up with this very cool band! Just watch out for em!

Hideous Fecal Splatter Session Review/Gored face: Both are excellent Grindcore/Gore bands from US. Gored Face is very basic, very primal, with excellent grind riffs, grotesque growls and chaotic fast drumming. I found that stuff to be sparking. Gorgeous savage grind in the vein of Rotting Flesh (Brazil) or Hideous Mangleus maybe.
Hideous Fecal Splatter Session is also really basic grind, real dirty and raw, complete with thrashing guitar, pounding drum blasts and guttural growls. All of this comes in not so good demo sound, but the stuff is highly enjoyable, cuz that's grind that comes from the guts and it's great! Keep an eye on these 2 bands.

Review: For such a fresh new band Infanticide sounds pretty terrific... Sound is clear and powerful, songs are tight, relentlessly fast and grinding, riffs are well thought out, execution is pretty much flawless. The style in question here is wildly energic, blistering grindcore in the vein of Nasum and company... songs are mostly speed-oriented but not without really groovy parts as well as some major crust/hardcore influences... Vocal-wise this is something with angry natural-sounding hardcore-type voices like Nasum/Dismember, at times it's pretty guttural-sounding and at other times it's got more aggressive and tortured screamy accents to it. Yeah, anyway, the swedish sound is definitely there but some of this also made me think of early SxOxB a little bit. This seems to be a pretty young band but musicianship is more than a little tight. Catchy, heavy, blasting, ultrafast is all what this band is... Infanticide obviously comes very recommended, as they simply kick some serious ass.

MAGGUT Promo Cd-R

Review: This great Cd-R sent by the band contains their first 13 Tracks Demo, the 6 tracks off the upcoming Split Ep w/ Intumescence, 2 Gut covers to feature on the Gut tribute cd and 3 tracks off the "Grind Osaka comp."...
Maggut is the new japanese sensation in terms of Gore/Grind, their style is of the basic and filthy type. Straightforward, expeditious songs, crushing heavy grind riffs, amazing and distorted bass sound, inhuman gurgling vocal effects, abrupt drumming... This is a really excellent, pure Gore/Grind band that's really worth getting excited about! The whole thing is very downtuned, and the bass sound is especially prominent, the band's got one of these really thick and heavy vibe but still keeps it raw and harsh. The drumming is more effective on the crust-core-type midtempos than on the blast beats, but it always stays very very catchy and driving.
The first demo is cool, it's nice and effective and the sound is clear and heavy. The material for the upcoming Split Ep w/ Intumescence is also very nice. The 2 Gut covers are very faithful versions and even keep the original intros, only one of these songs will be used the actual Gut tribute cd I think. But the best stuff on this Cd-R are the last 3 tracks from the "Grind Osaka comp." Their sound on these 3 tracks is great and the drumming is maybe tighter than on the rest of the stuff. This is mind-blowing Gore/Grind in the vein of old Regurgitate mixed with a slight Gore Beyond Necropsy touch. In fact, Maggut is more faithful to old Regurgitate style than Regurgitate themselves nowadays, so if you're in need of some dirty, downtuned, gore spewing grind, look no further... Maggut kicks major ass!

Psychosadistic Haterapist Review: PSHR is playing savage goregrind completely inspired by Catasexual Urge Motivation, Slough and early Gore Beyond Necropsy... with drum-machine-motored blasting beats (the drum machine sound slightly reminds me of Lymphatic Phlegm), vocal-wise: really effective distorted/pitch-shifted snarling and sickening back-throat gurgling grunts, downtuned as hell guitars with a lot of buzzing riffs often concluding with grinding and thrashing parts... Overall, song stuctures are well-thought out and gripping... Compositions sometimes run between 2 or 3 minutes, and there's a kind of hypnotic atmosphere that emerges from it all after a while... also songs are combined with some pretty eerie intros about blood and murder, all of this contributing one hell of a sickening, brain numbing, twisted grind experience.
Erotonomicon Review: Here's some more of that CUM-style goodness, extremely similar to PSHR in sound. It's got everything from stomach-churning sloshing gurgles, pulsing drum machine hyperspeed beats to repetitive heavy guitar riffs and catchy spiralling song structures... Maybe not as full fledged sounding as PSHR but very close honestly. Just really excellent and obsessive goregrind!
Uterus Review: Hard-striking drum machine blasts, heavy chugging guitars, ultra-guttural growls... Real brutal and messy stuff but not without some fun touches as well. Overall it sounds a bit like a drum machine version of Rotting Flesh. Uterus' side also concludes with a very nice cover of Gut's cover of a Ulcerous Phlegm song ("Consequence"). Not my favorite on this split but still alot of wacky fun...
Septic Scum Review: This is a side project of Dysmenorrheic Hemorrhage's Kyle. No surprise there, the drum machine and guitar parts sound just like DH, although the overall thing feels a lot more chaotic and improvised... Also, the DH trademark absurdly pitch-shifted gurgling vocals are substituted for some truly piercing screeches. Sounds kind of like a really crazed, rawer version of Dropdead. Really assaultive, intense and noisy kind of stuff... It lacks a bit of structure sometimes but it's still extremely enjoyable pissed off grindcore ultraviolence. Ok, and that's it I guess... To sum up: a formidable cdr, the cream of the crop of underground grind and gore drum machine projects and bands... Just go get it!

Psychosadistic Haterapist Review: Really excellent drum machine goregrind... Songs are totally focused on fullspeed rhythms, with mostly tons of bombastic drum blasts (although there's still enough variety to keep things interesting throughout), dark, ominous and sort of grubby-sounding guitar riffs, slushing gurgles and spiteful squeals... The sound is pretty thick, although with a really rough edge to it but it fits the style perfectly in my opinion. Songs are written strictly about sick things like murder and mayhem... There's also a couple of serial killer-type intros put to good use... If you miss Catasexual Urge Motivation, well then Psychosadistic Haterapist is the band that most successfully recreates what CUM used to do... A deranged and putrid atmosphere allied to some truly devastating grind.
Maniac Killer Review: This is the pre-Frightmare solo project of Lord Gore guitarist Neil, it's called Maniac Killer and it's drum machine grind-death... Musically pretty similar to things like Fuck... I'm Dead: blasting, ultrafast with short-as-fuck songs, some really great riffs with a death metal vibe to them... and regarding vocals, just really raunchy guttural growls accompagnied by frantic backing shrieks... Some highly effective song-writing that just keeps it to the essential, just staying quite basic but also with tons of very fast-paced grindcore-type of twist and turns, lots of killer rhythmic changes of pace and stuff... Also some of the greatest, funniest and most dynamic use of horror movie samples I've ever heard! To me, Maniac Killer remains quite simply one of the very best one-man grind-death projects ever...

Review: Spunky Swedish death metal... This band contains members of Desperator & Scurvy so expect something in the line of these 2 bands. Solid song-writing, old school feeling, infectious rhythms, catchy and ripping guitar riffs, energetic roaring vocals... Sound production is pretty fine too. There's quite a bit of melody infused in the riffing, but mostly it's sharp and crushing. Songs are all more or less 2 minutes long and I felt maybe there was also some sort of grindy edge not unlike Birdflesh through this stuff too. And I might be totally out of line here but I was also reminded of Nembrionic, something about the vocals in particular... This is nice work, well-crafted and refreshing death metal with a welcome, twisted sense of humor!

Review: So... Yeah! Top notch, groovy computerized Grind/Noise, not unlike Libido Airbag. That stuff's catchy, dirty and raw. Vocals are totally hysterical, screamy, saturated, gurgly gory at times too... Guitars sound extreme, thrashy and distorted and there's a cool bass sound on top of that too. The programmed drums sometimes are all over the place but overall they're very effective, especially effective on the groovy midtempo parts (the most Libido Airbag-incluenced parts). They make a great use of repetive samples (mostly porn) and they also throw in a few unconventional and bizarre total harsh noisecore parts. Smothered Brothers is like a more intense and raw version of Libido Airbag, they have their own chaotic sound. Downright sleazy and raw, the tracks are all fast-paced and catchy, really intense too... That stuff's just killer to me!

Review: This is a brand new band/project coming from Oregon (land of Engorged, Lord Gore...) The stuff here is quite effective splatter death metal with a pinch of grind and gore in the vein of Impaled/Exhumed/Ghoul. You've got thrashing and slightly melodic riffs reminiscent of early swedish death metal like Dismember & co... You've also got a touch of Carcass, goes without saying... And there's also the additional icky splatter feel of Sanity's Dawn "Mangled in the Meatgrinder" era, with manic mid-high-pitched shrieks and spewy growls. Songs are very straightforward and catchy, always sticking to the essential stuff. Musicianship is pretty damn perfect and all the songs are tightly composed. This demo also ends on a great note, which is a terrific Haemorrhage "Decom-posers" cover song. They're already signed on Razorback so just look out for them there, this should be very interesting!

SUPER FUN HAPPY SLIDE "Super Fun Happy Demo " Demo Cdr

Review: Listening to this demo convinced me further than australian people are unable to play bad grind... This is super-energetic, incisive grindcore with sharp and extremely catchy riffs, awesome fast and gripping drumming, the first tracks have predominantly screaming vocals, although raw grunt roars and sick pitch-shited gurgling start to progressively invade the later tracks... Apart from the Simpsons intros and the hysterical rip on Blood Duster on Track 5, musically this is actually a pretty serious grind effort, just well-structured songs, fast, driving riffs and a great sense of speed and groove! The name Super Fun Happy Slide still fits the band perfectly, this stuff sounds overwhelmingly aggressive and crushing but this is the kind of grind that puts me in a really good mood. Sound-wise, this comes with a nice raw edge, a slight rehearsal vibe, but this is really clear sounding stuff, each instrument is perfectly audible and ripping at you. Overall, this made me think me of a mixture of The Kill & Birdflesh with a gorier spin on the vocals for some of the tracks... I'm telling you new bands like this, Garbage Guts & Roskopp on top of Fuck... I'm Dead, TDEBN, etc... really makes me think australian grind scene is one of the strongest right now! Well done!

Review: These 4 Viscera tracks are all about raw, dirty, bizarre grind, with a rampant Autopsy-like feel to it and also sort of a wild punk energy... The bass is prominent with an almost jazzy vibe, kinda like Cause and Effect, but much more basic and repetitive, perhaps close to some stuff by Man is the Bastard as well, but I'll just stop with the references already... The most recognizable Viscera characteristics are the vocals which are just hysterical screams... That and their bloody and raw grind style. So here's a very original and weird band, not to mention sleazy... Just check em out!

Review: This band is going for a Dismembered Fetus/Anal Cunt raw, mean-spirited hategrind approach and the execution is convincing... Straightforward, basic songs, prominent bass sound, vicious guitars, shitload of distortion, extremely aggressive screaming vocals, chaotic drumming... And the addition of backing piggy growling also gives it a slight Gut/Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition touch at times... Well-rounded compositions with a right dosage of thrashing mid-tempos and raging blasts... Clear, concise and to the point... Sound is nasty and raw which is perfect for this style, still there's a certain downtuned heaviness to it too... Overall, just very nice sounding stuff, I just wish I could hear the drums a little more at times... Anyhow, there's a lot of cool-as-hell grindy chemistry at work here, Whoretorn surely is one of the most interesting bands from France playing this type of grind right now...
