CAPTAIN CLEANOFF Cd

(No Escape Records)
Release date:
2002

Review:
Super sharp and effective grindcore/metal. Musically it's very much in the vein of say, Terrorizer, with something of a slightly melodic metal influence. Tight & precise drumming, lots of smashing blasts and catchy crusty midtempos... The major part of the vocals are extremely high-pitched shrieks and they kinda hurt my ears a little, but still vicious and effective. The backing vocals are lower throaty grunt-roars and those are just great. Sound is pretty impressive, very clear, heavy and powerful. Not much more to say about this, overall, this is one great release, excitingly grindy, fast-paced and well-balanced. Really satisfying.

Tracks: 1)Chemical imbalance 2)Scatfest 3)Adidas 4)Highschool-slaughter-epidemic 5)Uni wanker 6)Cracked skull 7)Air 8)Excess baggage 9)Rotting 10)Girth crisis 11)a.o.d.

CAUSE FOR EFFECT "PQ-2" Cd

(Ubble-Gubble Records)
Release date: 2001
Running time: 14:18

Review:
That we have here is twisted, jazzy grind or fusion grindcore, whatever... Songs are all inventive and intricate. Also real quick, versatile and short, which keeps it from going stale and boring. The drumming is really sharp and the bass playing is definitely skilful. Although it maybe suffers a bit from only being a two-piece band. And since I thought Cause for Effect stuff was highly reminiscent of fantastic bands like Scrawl, Naked City & Man is the Bastard, I often expected a guitar or a crazy sax would break in. But the band seems to be happy with what they can do as a twosome, and it works pretty well since they're great musicians. And their minimalistic approach makes them really original and unique. The stuff is extremely enjoyable, it's intense, it's catchy, the sound is excellent, the growly vocals are a very nice touch and it's all very direct and fun. The lyrics are simple, short messages à la Agathocles, Discharge or Lärm... the band's minimalism always stretch to the very simple cover design. As a final note, I'll just say I like this stuff alot, anyone interested in non-conventional grind like Scrawl can go for this one.
Tracks: 1)Loyal to the new order 2)Far beyond harsh language 3)Robotic brute 4)Genetic beast 5)Fuse 6)Occult and extreme 7)People of north america have decided to destroy the earth 8)Patient and potent 9)Remember, focus 10)Political feeling 11)Scrag 12)Full potential 13)Stern ballista 14)Saboteur 15)-50 modification 16)Core fusion 17)Harsh written rule 18)Usability 19)Sto/Po 20)Jean Jaurès

CHORDS OF CHAOS 4 way split- with EXHUMED, EAR BLEEDING DISORDER, EXCRETED ALIVE and NECROSE

  (Lofty Storm Records)
Release date: 1998

Review:
This is a four way split cd with four bands on it (he...). First there are 7 tracks from Exhumed(usa), in the same vein as their past releases, with a very good sound for a great death/gore/grind! Nothing more to say, this is raw and really catchy Exhumed material. Personally I love Exhumed, their musical qualities are between bands like early Carcass, Impetigo & Suffocation, so you get the picture, they're awesome! Gore fucking metal!
Then, 17 grinding tracks are following, this is Ear Bleeding Disorder(usa), a project with some Dismembered Fetus(RIP) members. Musically, it's a bit like Dismembered Fetus yeah; but with less noise parts, a good sound and less extreme vocals; Titles are not shocking gory titles like were D.M. song titles. There are many intros, mainly funny. The band now seems already having disbanded!
The following band, Excreted Alive(Spain) plays very good simple and catchy grind/noise; with noisy guitars/bass, growls and screams as vocals; and blasting, rolling drums; sound is not excellent but still good. Raw and intense. Many punk influences. Good but not the best sensation of the split cd.
To finish, Necrose(brasil) throws up about 20 severe grindnoise songs in your face; Vocal types are varied, but those with distorting effects are great!!! Guitars and bass plays good noise and drums grind hard! Necrose use a drum machine, but it doesn't sounding synthetic at all. There are also some original songs, like with keyboards etc... Quite diversified and violent material, but not always coherent enough in my mind. This band is also R.I.P. now!
The cd comes with a large cover sheet with color pictures, bands info and lyrics. Exhumed have classic perverse gore lyrics, Excreted Alive and Necrose have classic socially aware lyrics (or so). Ear bleeding disorder has no lyrix at all. Finally... a honest and good split cd. 48 songs in 56 minutes. Another killer release by already cult brasilian label, Lofty Storm.

EXHUMED: 1)Excreting innards 2)Vagitarian 3)Grotesque putrefied brains 4)The exqusite flavour of gastro-anal tripe (Cadaveric splatter platter part II) 5)Sex, drinks & metal

COMMIT SUICIDE "Human Larvae (Earthly Cleansing)" Cd

(Willowtip)
Release date: 2001
Running time: 28:36

Review:
Stylish brutal death metal, the kind that sounds very clear and almost flawless, with a bit of grind ferocity thrown in for good measure. Alot of the complex, brutal and melodic guitar riffing reminds me of Incantation or Immolation; hopefully it doesn't get too doomy and preserves a fast, energic pace all the way, keeping songs real tight and most importantly, me interested. Drumming is especially brilliant, almost always fast but still, varied. The rest is truly well-rounded songs with alot of smooth changes of pace as well as abrupt thrashings, and cyclic violent grindy sleeper shockers if melodic guitars (plenty of those there) make you drowsy. Vocals are mostly roars that sound quite right but that can get a little dull, I liked the vocal effects touches though, and the higher pitched shouts that added a rougher edge, but I would really have liked to hear more of em. Overall, you get it, here we have pretty death metal that's really skilful... could be a masterpiece in its own right; but I still have the feeling that they just try too hard to sound like this. They are real talented musicians and all, but complex metal tend to get tedious for someone like me, who enjoy simpler, more straightforward grinding pleasures. Amateurs of tasteful music and fine grinding death metal, will obviously love Commit Suicide... I won't play this disc on repeat, but certainly every now and then. The cover art's gorgeous, a collage of human body parts and worms, and a "how to make Gore Gallery type pictures look artistic" thing... And well, it actually looks really great... And the band name's just the right message to all the kiddies out there! Go do just that!
Tracks: 1)Ablation 2)Silence beyond the delicate 3)Cyclic vomiting 4)Black falls 5)Through the light 6)Automated Sheep Crutch 7)When nothing exists 8)Your mind dies 9)Hollow 10)American werewolf 11)Epiphany 12)I just wanted to look... 13)Human larvae

CORPORAL RAID "Regressive Development " Cd

(Obliteration Records - ORCD 057)
Release date: 2005
Running time:
30:43

Review:
This album opens with a short crepitating, noisy intro and then bursts into full-on blasting and growling brutal death metal! I was expecting more of a goregrind sound from this italian band... And while Corporal Raid presents several characteristics of the genre such as relatively short songs and gurgling pitch shifted backing vocals, the largest bulk of the album has a definite brutal death metal vibe, of the Suffocation kind, complete with deep, guttural vocals, fast, thumping guitar riffs, even occasional pinched harmonics and stuff... Still, this band has a rawer, harsher and generally more grinding approach to the genre, a slightly schizophrenic mix of rigorous brutal death metal and more bestial goregrind which I think makes for a very interesting listen. The album degenerates into more straightforward grind at several points (like in the very last track) the band kind of manages to keep things fresh that way. Sound production is adequate, quite clear, sufficiently heavy and with enough distortion to give the whole album a nice crunch. Negligent Collateral Collapse or Dead Infection sometimes come to mind too. Distorted basslines, intense blastbeats and roaring vocal effects abound here and all in all this cd offers some pretty terrific, deranged, chaotic and aggressive moments with an actually pretty unique sound... The cd also ends one the the same note it starts: absolutely apocalyptic noise. Italy doesn't have that many bands to offer in the genre, but Corporal Raid is definitely one of the major one from there and are worth checking out.

CORPSE CARVING/MINCER Split Cd

(Coagulated Records)
Release date:
2005

Running time: 50:53

Corpse Carving Review:
Really typical drum-machine brutal death metal here... Blasting drumbeats, heavy & incisive, chugging guitar riffs (very Mortician-like) and low guttural gurgling growls (think Devourment)... This stuff's tightly done, the sound's pretty clean but yeah, I can't get much excitement from this type of stuff; I never can quite get into it... Songs are meandering with variations of the same riff over and over without much diversity... It's not so bad, just strictly for fans of the genre I guess.
Mincer: This italian band is much thrashier and chaotic than the previous one on this split... This is also brutal death metal, sound production is a bit on the muddy side with guitar and bass very loud in the mix while programmed drums are barely audible in the background... The deep growling vocals aren't so prominent either, but still louder than the drums... Not the best band ever, but enjoyable enough, the botched sound production gives it a kind of weird atmosphere which reminds me of Incantation on "Mortal Throne of Nazarene" (I mean that as a good thing)... The bonus tracks on this split cd makes it so you'll listen to Corpse Carving, Mincer then Corpse Carving & Mincer again, a bit messy but I like Corpse Carving sound better on the rawer bonus tracks... Overall, nice enough stuff, if you can stomach drum machine brutal death metal, that is!

Track list: Corpse Carving: 1)Disgorging a Mess of Human Flesh 2)Served with Maggots 3)Umbilical Strangulated Remnants 4)Gristle Masturbation 5)Severed Head Facial 6)Fisting Her Wounds 7)Piercing Penetration 8)Sawmill Corpse Carving 9)Yearning the Amputated Cadaver 10)Dismembering the Sagging Sacks of Shit 11)Fingering Fleshless Stumps 12)Meatcleaver Disembowelment

CORPSEFUCKING ART/GORETRADE"Zombiecronomicon" Cd

(Coagulated)
Release date: 2001
Running time: 31:17

Corpsefucking Art Review:
A simple glance at the track list and the band can't escape the comparison with Mortician, they have a song entitled "Four on a Meathook" and recorded a cover version of Mortician's "Bloodcraving"... Then when you pop the disc in the cd player, it's even more obvious. Each track starts with a Bloodsucking Freaks (Incredible Torture Show) intro and then the whole thing sounds alot like Mortician, except they have a real drummer and they're italian. But it's one of the finest Mortician-sounding bands I've heard. Songs are pretty tight, a mix of slow parts, blasting parts, and more thrashy parts, very Mortician-esque, vocals are incredibly guttural, guitar riffs are just basic and really catchy, also really low-tuned and heavy, the real drums recreate Mortician spirit of the "Mortal Massacre" era, and it's all really great and exciting. The sound is very clear and it's simply extremely enjoyable intense brutal death.
Tracks: 1)Corpsex 2)Four on a Meathook 3)Homicidal chainsaw butchery 4)Addicted to murder 5)Bloodcraving (Mortician Cover)

Goretrade Review: Goretrade is some more intense brutal death metal, but in a more Deeds of Flesh-way. Fat growls, alot of double-bass drum and fast drumming (where the snare drum sounds alot like if they were hitting hard on a pan). Heavy guitar riffing... I think you get the picture, just something a bit like Fermento, Soils of Fate, old Suffocation... brutal death metal like that! Goretrade is quite tight and intense and sound is pretty clear. Usual gory imagery... It's nothing new but it should be enjoyable for fans of that genre of brutal death.
Tracks: 1)Postmortem incision 2)Serial killer 3)The horror of gore 4)Carnal access 5)Killing virgin women

CORRUPTED "Llenandose de Gusanos" Double Cd

Release date: 2000

Review: This is sludge, deep and depressive, just one drawn out song that takes a 2 cd space. Pretty insane and extreme that way... I find this hard to bear personally but those who are really patient, and into slow-burning, snail-paced, experimental, raw noise/sludge will probably dig Corrupted.

CRYPTICUS "Dedicated to the Impure " Cd

(Razorback Records - RR34)
Release date: 2005
Running time:
28:44

Review:
Crypticus is a very apt name for a band with such a cryptic, obscure sound, really capturing a sort of gloomy sound that would come from beyond the grave... This is one of the strongest death metal albums I've heard in a long while: truly gripping songs that strain your brain with heavy and thick sound textures, deep, guttural and slightly liquid vocals (remiscent of Demilich), inspired guitar riffing worthy of Massacre or early Death... Song-writing is solid and often pretty mesmerizing, with beautiful and memorable guitar work that just flows perfectly wether it's dark and melodic or thrashing and destructive... This is at the same time fast, blasting, catchy but also with an awesome atmospheric horror vibe sometimes even enhanced by well-placed keyboard parts (really gives this an old school horror feel in the vein of Mario Bava's "Black Sunday" and stuff...) Unless I'm mistaken, I suspect the drumming to be programmed, but you probably won't notice it as it's all really seemless work, quite varied, dynamic and natural-sounding. On top of that, the cd layout is adorned with absolutely great lovecraftian tentacle artwork! An all around fantastic offering!

Tracks: 1)Death Toll (2:36) 2)Bonescraper (1:30) 3)Mortificus (2:18) 4)The Crypticult (1:21) 5)Cyclops Throne (2:16) 6)Splatterstorm (2:24) 7)Tales Of The Necrosopher (2:11) 8)Cadaverous Invaders (2:28) 9)Haunted Vomitorium (1:40) 10)Necroborg (2:01) 11)Cryptrap (3:44) 12)Echoes Of The Macabre (4:15)

C.V.I. (CONVULSIVE VULVOLATRIC INTRUDERS) "Forensic Necrovulvectomy" Cd

(Grind Your Soul)
Release date: 2001
Running time: 42:50

Review:
A self-proclaimed sexist band can obviously not be of the feel-good kind! C.V.I. is indeed a nasty, distasteful, careless, pernicious one-man gore/grind/death act from Brasil. It's all really raw and noisy, intense and splattery. Pretty chaotic, saturating, bordering on grind-noise, but also entangled in some more death metally patterns... Alot of frantic screaming and alot of pitch-shifted vocal effects also thrown in for good measure, as well as alot of improper, rancid intro samples, from porn flicks mostly. Each song has an intro and they're quite long, but the songs are all quite long themselves, so there's some kind of balance in all that. If you already picture yourself enjoying this sonorous garbage can of the darkest, most vile human inclinations, while leering in delight at the absurd gory song titles and disgraceful, morbid cover patchwork. Then you are truly sick and this album will probably make you hit rock bottom. Hope you enjoy your burning in hell! Except that, it's a really neat production by french label Grind Your Soul (aka Inhumate self-production label) limited to 500 copies, nice color cover, cool running time and extreme sickness...
Tracks: 1)Pussy slammers 2)Nunnery Brothel (Pt 2) 3)Psychopathic chainsaw fuck (Pt 2) 4)Forensic vulvectomy 6)My slave nurse 6)Genital organ mutilatiob inc (Pt 2) 7)No hemorrhoids 8)Gore eaters 9)Feminist cunt (Pt 2) 10)Biopsy 11)Facial scum shot 12)Oral scum shot 13)Fashioned ebola 14)The Living dead vcmit 15)Psychopathic chainsaw fuck (Pt 1) 16)Cadaverous axe terror 17)Forcible cunilingus 18)Nuclear fuckn'slut 19)Submissive bitch 20)Necrogynaecological penetration 21)Feminist cunt (Pt 1) 22)Pay obedience to me 23)Slaughter in discoclub 24)Biopsy (Pt 1) 25)Food from graveyard
