BRUTALITY REIGNS SUPREME/GRUESOME STUFF RELISH "Brothers in Gore" Split Cd

(BIZARRE LEPROUS PRODUCTIONS)
Release date: 2001

BRS Review: Terrific Split Cd opening with Brutality Reigns Supreme - one of Netherland's coolest band. If you know their previous stuffs, they haven't changed a bit. Which is a good thing in their case; coz they kick serious ass. It's very basic but brutal grind-death, really heavy and kinda raw too. Crushing guitar riffs à la Blood, programmed drums and song structure in perfect Mortician way, totally gore vocals a little like Last Days of Humanity, and a general sound that reminds me early Agathocles. References are to give the idea, but BRS have their own recognizable sound, kinda funny and simple, with very special vocal effects and a brutish heavy rawness of their very own. It's the kind of stuff I love, with horror intros and scary grind music.

Gruesome Stuff Relish Review: Things get even better with this awesome spanish grind-gore band (with a guy from Repugnance, other excellent band). One of the closest thing to Carcass first album "Reek of Putrefaction" I've heard. Especially those crazy high guitar notes, kinda manic (non-technical) solis. The vocals are also very 88' Carcass, high maligna voice with a lot of gurgling backing gore effects. Great, heavy grind guitar riffs and kinda brutish chaotic drums. Like Carcass, it's not all-out fastness, there are more moderate parts and it's all tight and heavy stuff. Really neat. It's the first time I hear them and I'm a Gruesome Stuff Relish fanatic. That's a band that shows serious gore talent. The cover is very slick, but full of totally great comic-book type horror artwork, it looks awesome. This Split is a grind event I wouldn't miss if I were you, so now you know.

BRUTALITY REIGNS SUPREME "Back from the Dead"

(Bloodbath Records)
Release date: 2000
Running time: 25:50

Review:
The big feast begins with an introducing sound sample from Evil Dead 2 (I'm not sure, but maybe Evil Dead 1 or 3 then, from the sequence when Bruce Campbell straps a corpse with chains to a table and start up his chainsaw, they do it on all 3 movies). It's a great intro, followed by some of the biggest grind-death-gore slaughter ever. This dutch band (featuring some ex-Sexorcist members) plays their grind-death in a tight and constructed way, with drum blasts (programmed drums) and fastness in the front row; in the vein of Mortician. The guitar riffs are very basic and grindy, and then very catchy. The vocals come with effects during the whole album (the vocal effects are a bit like Cock and Ball Torture, and Last Days of Humanity-a bit less noisy and gurgly though), adding a pretty cool gore-grind vibe. The sound is very good and heavy. They include very short and exciting intros from movies like Evil Dead, Hellraiser, Night of the Living Dead... for the horror feel. You'll also find cover versions of songs by grindcore pioneers like Fear of God & Agathocles (great references!). BRS never slows down, it's always faster and more brutal. Tight unrelenting blasts, gory vocals, grindy riffs, catchy song-writing, it's simple, but still rare enough these days to drive me nuts. Surely one of This Year's Finest Grind Albums...
