Review:
This new album is all about raw, heavy, abrasive and aggressive hardcore, not unexpected from Benümb... Stuff here is same as always... Pretty damn fast, with a grinding guitar sound and some effective scary thrashing riffs, speed-crazed/pounding drumming, and some kind of very angry yelling-type vocals, clear but pissed off and intense. They're like a mix of of Righteous Pigs & Dropdead. Sometimes the drums do not sound that powerful, you can't hear the bass drum too well, but overall the stuff here is really tight and dense with top notch heavy sound production. It can be chaotic, turbulent at times or more focused/tight/metal-sounding at other moments. If you liked their other albums, you won't be disappointed. Lyrics are included for just a couple of tracks, the art is a really lush Relapse-style apocalyptic collage. Cool stuff really.

Review:
Well well. Nothing's better than a good powerviolence record right in your face. Here we have extremely pissed off grinding hardcore by a renowned band in the genre. It's fast... and frantic. And well, sometimes I must admit I find the vocals bit loosy and the drums kinda sloppy, I prefer straight grind in old Napalm Death's style. But that's cool. This band's really awesome, they have great riffs and some really violently catchy parts. Plus, the sound production is flawless (maybe not raw enough for that kind of stuff though); Well, I feel sometimes songs end too fast, or that they go in too many different ways too quickly for me to concentrate on the good stuff. But anyway, Benümb is a very big band, very talented and unique. I like the nihilistic themes of the songs, and the cover. It's honestly really great stuff.

BENÜMB "Soul of the Martyr"

(Relapse Records)
Release date: 1998

Review:
Yeah! I never had the chance to hear this band before but this is Grind to the fucking CORE! This debut cd from Relapse contains their previous releases (3 Ep + bonus live tracks) and 21 new tracks...so about 46 minutes of pure HC/GRIND rage! Vocals are in the hardcore/crust violent style (close to some vocals in the lasts Brutal Truth). Most of the tracks are pure fast grind, one is a sludge doom song in the vein of the mighty EYEHATEGOD! So expect an album filled with intense Hatred against society stupidity! As usual the packaging & production are fucking great with Relapse. So Grind freaks buy or die!
