Review:
It's safe to say Autopsy always feels good... the songs here are all familiar territory... Killer live versions of mostly early material... Flowing, morbidly melodic, doom-death metal and a heavy, muffled, rotten sound, guaranteed to give you all kinds of warm and fuzzy feelings... Ok, anyway, this cd is quite well put together, it contains live material originally released on vinyl, there's the "Tortured Moans of Agony" double 7" Ep (recordings from 1993), I think tracks are in a different order here though... and there's also the "Live from the Grave" Lp (1991 live recordings)... The recordings have been remastered and it all sounds real nice, Autopsy is always fascinating to listen to and these live takes also give the songs a fresh feel to them. The artwork by Dennis Dread is superb, mixing elements from most Autopsy album covers, there's also a cool booklet, the whole layout is well designed too... Plus I know you're probably asking yourself how can Chris Riefert bark his vocals and pound on his drums at the same time, well just get this and find out...

Tracks: 1)Dead 2)Fiend for blood 3)Twisted mass of burnt decay 4) Death twitch 5)Slaughterday 6)Fleshcrawl - Torn from the womb 7)Charred remains 8)Shit eater 9)Pus rot 10)Gasping for air 11)Severed survival 12)Hole in the head 13)Torn from the womb 14)Fiend for blood 15)Service for a vacant coffin 16)Embalmed 17)Destined to fester 18)Robbing the grave 19)Charred remains

AUTOPSY "Ridden with Disease" Cd

(Necroharmonic Productions - Sleazy 001)
Release date: 2000
Running time: 30:07

Review:
Terrific re-issue cd, including the 2 first Autopsy (Demo '87, and "Critical Madness" Demo '88) and 2 bonus live songs. Only material from the band's golden age, just before their first and best album, "Severed surival". In fact, all the tracks are demo versions of songs from this album, except 2 of them, "Human genocide" & "Mauled to death", never ever released on album i think. It's straightforward, raw and sick death metal in the vein of Death "Scream bloody gore". The sound is a little raw, but it adds even more feeling to the songs. And the band is just so powerful. The keys to their successful style are basicly memorable thrashy guitar riffs, catchy drums, mostly midtempo but real tight, and rather high-pitched twisted vocals (higher than on all the studio album). It's must-have material. The packaging is light, but really cool, with lyrics, a funny silly cover art, and a few band pictures. The bonus live tracks are icing on the cake, just really great early live stuff. I'm sorry, I don't remember the exact price right now, so just drop a line to the Necroharmonic email address below.

Tracks: 1)Human genocide 2)Embalmed 3)Stillborn 4)Mauled to death 5)Charred remains 6)Ridden with disease 7)Critical madness 8)Severed survival (live) 9)Service for a vacant coffin (live)

AUTOPSY "Severed Survival" Cd

(Peaceville Records)
Release date: 1989

Review:
Back in 1989, with this infamous Autopsy first album... The band was formed by an ex-Death member, and this album curiously sounds like "Scream bloody gore" and "Leprosy"... with a pretty dirtier sound. Vocals remind Chuck Shuldiner's, most of guitars and drums are also in Death's vein... only some more melodic doomy parts, and a few morbid guitar solos differ as well as a very special, filthy ambience. Anyway, some ultimate metal songs are in this album, like "Charred remains" or "Gasping for air"... This band has been very influencial in the underground, and you should at least listen to this album, which is their best one in my mind; the most aggressive, fast and catchy... The cover art has been banned, so you can find this cd with two different covers, the censored one is gory and very cool!!! (this is the one at the right side of this review). Well if you're into old fashion thrashing death metal like early Death, Immolation or Repulsion... You have to know this one too!

Tracks: 1)Charred remains 2)Service for a vacant coffin 3)Disembowel 4)Gasping for air 5)Ridden with disease 6)Pagan savior 7)Impending dread 8)Severed survival 9)Critical madness 10)Emabalmed 11)Stillborn

AUTOPSY"Mental Funeral/Retribution for the Dead" Cd

(Peaceville Records)
Release date: 1991

Review:
"Mental funeral" is the second Autopsy album; I quite like it, but the brutality and violence are reduced to a few songs and parts of songs, like on the first track, "Twisted mass of burnt decay", which is although not so fast! Well, in the other hand, this album is very very dark, gloomy, slow, sick; and hellish doom parts are numbrous... so, lots of low-tuned melodic guitars and Chris Reifert's so special, stenchy, raw and crazy vocals, reciting bloody and deranged lyrics about some of the most murderous kind of madness... Sound is in the vein of previous album, "Severed survival", a good death/doom album, but a true lack of rythmic energy! note: My "Mental funeral" cd also contains songs from "Retribution for the dead"...

Tracks: 1)Twisted mass of burnt decay 2)In the grip of winter 3)Fleshcrawl 4)Torn from the womb 5)Slaughter day 6)Dead 7)Robbing the grave 8)Hole in the head 9)Destined to fester 10)Bonesaw 11)Dark crusade 12)Mental funeral 13)Retribution for the dead

AUTOPSY "Acts of the Unspeakable" Cd

(Peaceville Records)
Release date: 1992

Review:
This is maybe the sickest Autopsy album... the inside artwork is ultimately gory and demented, and as I heard, Autopsy have been in trouble with censorship for it... Lyrics are also the sickest Chris Reifert ever wrote... about cannibalism, ugly perversions, festering gore and necrophilia... Suffocation bassist is part of the line-up this time... Songs are shorter, doom parts are still there, but most of the time, rythms are sufficiently energic! and vocals are really unbearable! No, the result is rather good, pretty more artistic than on the others albums... but still, the catchy thing is not always present.

Tracks: 1)Meat 2)Necrocannibalistic vomitorium 3)Your rotting face 4)Blackness within 5)An act of the unspeakable 6)Forzen with fear 7)Spinal extractions 8)Death twitch 9)Skullpture 10)Pus/Rot 11)Battery acid enema 12)Lobotmized 13)Funereality 14)Tortured moans of agony 15)Ugliness and secetions 16)Orgy in excrements 17)Voices 18)Walls of the coffin
