ANTAGONY "See Through These Eyes" Cd

(Sporadicore Records)
Release date: 2001
Running time: 32:09

Review:
This is the latest Antagony release. They're playing some neat death-grind that works as much on moderate rythms as on speedy effusions. The whole point seems to be diversity. Slight complexity together with alot of aggressive thrashing. In the vocal department we get very high screamings intermixed with pretty deep guttural roars. I usually prefer grind that's simple and direct, but this album is really well-done and composed, and I thoroughly appreciate it. Made me think of the late Brutal Truth grind thingie with Incantation's metal intricate song structures; a couple of grind acts like Circle of Dead Children sound a bit like that too. Anyway, I totally admire the work behind this offering, the songs are all nicely put together, quite complicated but still catchy with a pretty sharp sound. The comicbook-like artwork is great stuff! I like it alot. Ok, I'm not super-excited, mostly because I'm always scared of complex music, but aggression is the real, main recurring theme in this record. It's a good album, a recommended one even.

ANTAGONY "Expect the worst" Mcd

  (Sporadicore)
Release date: 2000

Review:
This mini-album by promising american powerviolence-grind band Antagony is kinda very very good. Those 6 songs really convinced me. They dig through this old style their own way, with conviction and hit where it hurts. From the usual tortured screamy vocals, aggressive guitar riffs and pounding drums, I feel a unique band that doesn't seem to copy any other band. Their songs can be fast or slower, they just do it the way they feel it and it works quite well. I've just totally been into it from the first time. Their style is kinda simple and limpid, just catchy so you don't have to adjust. All it takes is to have to 2 ears to listen, and if that's your case, I'd advise you to listen to Antagony. Check their site for Mp3s. www.antagony.com

ANTAGONY demo cd

  Release date: 1999

Review:
This demo cd contains 4 tracks in about 15 minutes; and some very good thrashy grind powerviolence. Songs always have a cool running time (between 3 and 4 minutes), a worked structure, and quite long movie samples as introductions. The sound is pretty powerful and clean, compositions are catchy, rythms range from moderate/slow midtempos to fast blasting, guitars are thrashy, bass have cool distortion, vocals are high pitched, screamy and raw, very hateful and effective; there are also a few backup grunts. Lyrics are original and interesting. Good stuff! This is a demo but keep an eye open on Antagony. They will release a full length CD in summer '99.
Tracks: 1)Mindwar 2)Slob 3)Drugs 4)Requiem
