AGATHOCLES "Mincer" Cd

(Displeased Records)
Release date: 2006
Running time: 36:27

Review: So, Agathocles shifts to a new label for their new studio full length album... The band's line-up has been fluctuant along the years, but of course bassist/vocalist Jan is still the driving energy of the band as always and obviously Agathocles' very specific style and sound remains completely unchanged... I wouldn't say this cd reaches the heights of what is in my opinion their best release "Razor Sharp Daggers", I'd place it more along the lines of "Thanks for your Hostility" or "Humarrogance"... A kind of dark feel, with some prominent crispy, sizzling bass lines, tenacious roaring and gurgling shrieks, in-your-face drumming and quite basic and incredibly catchy song writing... The album never goes into too much of a punk/hardcore oriented vein but you can't ignore that alot of this stuff is actually pretty midtempo and that the band have gained some additional groovy angles and more metallic arrangements here and there... Sound-wise this stuff abounds in rawness, dissonance and distortion, the buzzing bass sound takes a front position and vocals are pretty often kinda drowned in the background, so I wouldn't say the mixing is totally perfect but overall alot of clarity is retained and the whole album is of course extremely listenable! I feel this cd might suffer from too much of a routine feel and not enough genuinely raging moments but hell, this is Agathocles so you can expect their usual standards of quality, that means well above most grind bands around these days... It also looks like the band gave some extra care to the laying out of their booklet this time with a pretty nice and slick design... Of course you'll find a complete lyric sheet with strong political content as always or it wouldn't be Agathocles! I love how the band has "No fuck off list... It's a waste of valuable paper for which too many trees already been down for." after so many releases and some of the thickest booklets ever, could Agathocles actually be evil destroyers of forests, haha!!! Anyway, a ton of fresh, grinding new Agathocles songs is always totally welcome, so it goes without saying, this new album comes highly recommended!

Tracks: 1)Dethrone The Tyrant (1:07) 2)Matadores Del Libertad (0:57) 3)Maze Of Papers (2:31) 4)Empty Frame (2:59) 5)War Fetisjists Kill (2:52) 6)Carved Face Fashion (0:11) 7)Forced To Masturbate (2:25) 8)Ergos - Thanatos (1:01) 9)Archives And Files (2:17) 10)Yuppie Career Freak (2:16) 11)Diary Of White Trash (1:56) 12)Bass The Gabbers (0:43) 13)Kurose (1:51) 14)Expendable Goods (2:02) 15)Class War Necessity (1:17) 16)Logical Exodus (2:02) 17)Misery = Destiny (1:54) 18)Pricks At Gigs (1:29) 19)Goredom - Boredom (2:26) 20)Where It Belongs (1:07) 21)Mincer (1:04)

AGATHOCLES/STOMACHAL CORROSION Split Cd

(Grindmind Records - GRM002)
Release date:
2004
Running time: 75:40

Agathocles "Live in Stavenhagen 1998" Review: This Agathocles release is all live material from 1998 show, this set mostly contains fast grinding songs from the "Razor Sharp Daggers"/"Humarrogance" era, the sound is ok, pretty clear overall, but this is Agathocles recorded live after all so obviously there's a lot of rawness at work here... not the most essential Agathocles release of course, just one more addition to their never-ending discography but Agathocles completists might want this... And sound quality isn't too bad... A major flaw though is the whole live set is contained on only two different tracks, without separation between the songs... Most unpractical!
Stomachal Corrosion "Kaosa Turnigo" Review: Here's something pretty similar to Agathocles, with more of a hardcore edge perhaps, grumpy growling vocals, a prominent groovy slapping bass sound, thrashing riffs, mid-paced tempos and a few grind parts but nothing major... Listenable stuff, clear sound but quite unmemorable/bland song-writing... Not a spectacular split release, more of a Agathocles collectors item...

Tracks: Agathocles: 1)Live in Stavenhagen 1998 Part I: Intro - A Start at Least - Humarrogance - Razor Sharp Daggers - Media Creations - The Ancient - Thy Kingdom Won't Come - Insufferable Being - Reduced to an object - A for Arrogance - Ain't? - No Use (Hatred) - Trust? Not me!
2)Live in Stavenhagen 1998 Part II: Consuming Endoderme Pus - Thanks for the Hostility - Criminalisation of Strange Behaviour - Ice Brick - Labelisation - Mince Core - Theatric Symbolisation of Life - Is it Really Mine? - Birds (Poem) / Agarchy

AGATHOCLES "To Serve... to Protect/Leads to..." Cd

(No Fashion Records)
Release date:
2003

Review:
This Agathocles release is a concentrate of their more hardcore side and it is pretty much grind-free. Midtempos, thrashing guitar riffs, shouted vocals is what you'll get here. The lyrics are always a very important part in the band, so expect 19 very opiniated songs. Personally I'm a bigger fan of their wild grindcore side but this is still kick-ass and angry music, well-worth a listen.

Tracks: 1)Bomb the Bastard 2)Judged Too Soon 3)Wage-war 4)To Serve... To Protect 5)Hand in Hand 6)Scared 7)Homes not domes 8)Full of hatred 9)Who cares 10)Euro-nomous 11)One-sided views 12)Wrong ways 13)I thought 14)Living hell 15)Cool fools 16)Tele-conning 17)Fed up with your make-up 18)Animal boy 19)Leads to...

AGATHOCLES "Live in Gierle, Belgium, 1989" Cd

Release date: 2003
Running time: 26:10

Review:
This is the cd release of a 1989 Agathocles live show. The old line-up playing all the classic Agathocles songs from "Forced Pollutions" to "The Accident" & "Well of Happiness"... The sound is quite clear, sure this is all extremely blistering, raw and crude but in a very listenable way, I'm a sucker for this kind of old Agathocles material. Great distortion, scourging bass, mincing riffs, monstrous growls and piercing shrieks, you know the deal... some of the most basic and effective grindcore ever, the execution is stormy and wild, bordering on noisecore at times like good old Fear of God... Some cool black & white art & some interesting notes from the band about his recording inside... Cool to see the chainsaw through the head logo on the back sleeve cover too... I used to have this on a t-shirt!

Tracks: 1)Fake friend 2)Forced pollutions 3)Majesty of fools 4)Splattered brains 5)Lay off me 6)Fog 7)The accident 8)Consuming endoderme pus 9)Playing with lifes 10)Mutilated regurgitator 11)Trust? Not me! 12)Teachers 13)Purified by death 14)Deceased 15)Introyl 16)Christianity means tyranny 17)Squeeze anton 18)Gorgonized dorks 19)Solitary minded 20)The well of happiness

AGATHOCLES"Keep Mincing" Cd

Release date: 2003
Running time: 26:50

Review:
Another cd for Agathocles archivists here... This is classic old lo-fi Agathocles material, everyone is probably familiar with all these songs, but these tracks are actually unreleased versions... The first 14 tracks are studio material from 1988, recorded for a Split Lp that never happened. The sound is raw and harsh, songs are ripping and devastating, primitive grindcore, as you probably know... distortion, crude bass sound, raging riffs, screams, absurd shrieks, grinding drumming... The last 11 songs are live recordings from 1988, same old Agathocles with a raw and harsh (but very decent to me) sound... Cd comes with lyrics and some cool enlighting notes from the band regarding these recordings. Nice stuff for extreme Agathocles collectors here!

AGATHOCLES "Mince Core History 1989-1993" Cd

(Selfmadegod Records - SMG 001)
Release date:
2003
Runng time: 50:40

Review:
This is a very nice collection of Agathocles Ep's, some stuff you may have already heard, some not... I think some of this material was also used as bonus tracks on "Razor Sharp Daggers" or "Black Clouds Determinate", still it's cool to have it all in a great big collection (there is another collection cd covering the 1985-1990 years available too). So, these are obviously different recordings made along the years, the sound production varies but is mostly clear with a raw vibe. The music style varies alot too, from pure grindcore to hardcore/crust and even some more death metal-oriented stuff... Ok, you probably know Agathocles already, this cd contains some of their best material like the "Distrust and Abuse" Ep... Inside the booklet you'll find insightful notes and the artwork on each release, plus all the lyrics as well. Very well conceived cd, great for Agathocles completists...

Tracks: 1)The Truth Begins Where Man Stops To Think 2)Sentimental Hypocrisy 3)Kill Your Fucking Idols 4)Birds (poem) / Agarchy 5)Go Fucking Nihilist 6)Hatred Is The Cure 7)No Use ... (Hatred) 8)An Abstract 9)Black Ones (poem) / Systemphobic 10)Anthropodislogical 11)Intro "Sheep" / Non-Conformity 12)Miks Haluat Tapella 13)Cynical Weirdos 14)Hippie Cult 15)Provoked Behaviour 16)Anti-Death part 1 17)Anti-Death part 2 18)Anti-Death part 3 19)Sieg Shit 20)Hatronomous 21)Hideous Headchopping 22)Bigheaded Bastards 23)Get Off Your Ass 24)Distrust And Abuse 25)Throwing Away Crap 26)Floeren Aap 27)Bier 28)Fashion Scene 29)Intro "Hail To Japan" 30)Labelisation 31)Fake Friend 32)Splattered Brains 33)Catch The Fishhook 34)Faded Novelty 35)Senseless Trip 36)Here And Now 37)Is It Really Mine? 38)Insane 39)Television 40)Bigheaded Bastards 41)Sieg Shit

AGATHOCLES "Humarrogance" Cd

(Morbid records)
Release date: 1998

Review: 20 staggering songs, of pure crushing, suffocative, bulldozing mince-core. 100 percent aggression and sheer brutality!!! A 1000 times heavier sound than before! This is of course really far better than "Thanks for your hostility", where I was a quite disappointed. Not any hardcore track; well maybe a few funny jazzy/rock arrangements but no soup, it works very well in a similar spirit as Clotted Symmetric Sexual Organs or Exit 13... This one has 38 intense minutes running time... Although the heaviness point reached here might really take some people out of breath, I think it's the most finished Agathocles work, and they finally find a really personal and full sound of their own! There's also a really optimistic mincecore tone in the compositions! Lyrics are even more sarcastic than whenever in the past! And they at last find a nice artwork for their cover! This is changing from the ugly things they used in the past! Well in a few simple words: GET IT OR DIE! A version is released in Japan only, with a bonus track... Try to get a hold of it! and Mince till death!!!

Tracks: 1)Humarrogance 2)Because 3)Model citizen 4)Let's feel alright 5)As years pass by 6)It bothers me 7)One-day-fly 8)White horse 9)Ain"t I ? 10)Beam me up, Scotty 11)Ice brick 12)Culture of degradation 13)Closed down 14)Allright, let's feel 15)Kneel and pay 16)Failure ? 17)I can't stand 18)Smelling the odour of death 19)The bastards have landed 20)Mince-cor

AGATHOCLES "Razor sharp dagger" Cd

Re-issue release date: 1999 (Bones Brigade)
Release date: 1995 (Cyber Music)

Bones Brigade re-Issue Cd Review: Here we have a new re-issue version of this 1995 Agathocles album, by the french label, Bones Brigade. It's a little surprising, but quite nice, because this album is my favourite Agathocles album. No changes on musical content of the cd, (so just check the review of the original Cd below to have an idea). The only changes are on the cover & booklet... Things like front logo colour-change and new band pix... nothing really better than the original cover design (damn ugly!). The lyrics disappeared but the statements paragraphs are always there. If you missed the original copies, it's great to get this re-press, because it's just a grindcore/mince masterpiece. For the lyrics, check the link below.

Original Review: The 25 first songs are studio recordings, ok, this is not 100 % grind, the plan is: "1 hardcore song for 2 grindcore songs". But the hardcore songs are not nice punk rock shit, this is really kicking butts! And grindcore songs like "A start at least", "Clean the scene", "Thy knigdom won't come", "Razor sharp daggers", "Age of the mutants" & "Gear-wheels": are some of all time best (yes, best!) grindcore tracks I have ever heard! (fuck you if you don't agree!). There are also just several very very slow (a bit depressive) songs like "Lunatic" or "Fear not", and I also enjoy these. The sound is very cool too! Nothing to say about the great socially aware lyrics: just read them if you care! For the rest, there are bonus live(a bit boring but listenable!) and studio tracks from some old eps and split(including the great "Distrust and abuse" ep)..... total running time is more than 70 minutes, and as their musick is varied, you won't be bored! The 25 first are a mandatory listening for any grind freak!

Tracks: 1)A start at least 2)Clean the scene 3)A for arrogance 4)Thy king dome won't come 5)Media creation 6)All gone 7)Swallow or choke 8)Razor sharp daggers 9)Enough 10)Throwing away crap 11)Cracking up solidarity 12)Lunatic 13)Didn't ask 4)Twisting history 15)Deserves to die 16)Age of the mutants 17)Zero-ego 18)Gear-wheels 19)Dear-friends 20)Hormon mob 21)Hash-head , farmer's death 22)Dare to be aware 23)Kiss an ass 24)All love dead 25)Fear not 26)Sieg shit 27)Hatronomous 28)Hideous headchopping 29)Bigheaded bastards 30)Get off your ass 31)Distrust and abuse 32)Hippie cult 33)Provoked behaviour 34)Black ones(poem)/Systemphobic 35)Anthropodislogical 36)Labelisation 37)What mankind creates 38)No! 39)Rejected adaption 40)An abstract 41)Faded novelty 42)Senseless trip 43)Here and now 44)Is it really mine??

AGATHOCLES/AVERNO Split Cd

(Warmaster Records)
Release date: 1994

Agathocles Review: This is some Agathocles live recording... I'm a little bored with AxGx Live recordings... but here are some good grinding songs, like "Hideous headchopping", "Introtyl" or "Reprezione" in very interesting raw and raging straightforward versions... There are also a few more crusty tracks, classics like "Get off your ass", "Senseless trip" or "An abstract"... This is not a major AxGx release, but it still worths the listening... Inside the cover you will have the surprise of finding a porn' picture, but it should be a mistake from the label, even Agathocles wasn't aware about that!!!

Averno Review: It begins with a very strange introduction! and then, it continues with weird music too... basicly you can call it death/grind, but guitars sound very bizarre, lots of rock parts... some grinding parts too... but the result is not really my cup of pus! Well, the vocals are OK, some nice grolws... as well, lyrics are written in colombian language(spanish?) probably; coz they come from Colombia... It's cool to hear out a colombian band, but this one is not very surprising!

Agathocles Tracks: 1)What a nerve 2)Hideous headchopping 3)Kill your idols 4)Labelization 5)Reprezione 6)Get off your ass 7)Squeeze Anton 8)Senseless trip 9)Introtyl 10)An abstract
Averno Tracks:
 11)Signos del tiempo 12)Sexo-sexo 13)Equilibrio del terror 14)Segregacion 15)El amazonas muere 16)Nuestra identided 17)Tu mente 18)Naturaleza 19)Impunidad 20)Su mission 21)Futuro incierto 22)Corrupcion 23)Asco 24)Opus 23

AGATHOCLES/DEPRESSION Split Cd

Release date: 1997

Agathocles Review: 5 unreleased studio tracks + 4 live tracks; a very good and original stuff, with a good sound, good lyrics... it's Agathocles!!! Live tracks include a antinazi cover from dutch band Pandemonium... nothing more to say! good release! Note the beautiful cover art... I like it!

Depression Review: 8 tracks in a very listenable grinding death style; tight, fast and heavy... good sound... not bad at all! Best song is "Vomit Bowel": 40 seconds of brutal grind!!! as well, note "Thy Beauty" which is a Fear Of God cover (good choice, F.O.G. are godfathers of grindnoise; from Switzerland!) Finally, Depression is great band! (They are from Germany)

Agathocles Tracks:1)Intro/ Drug-induced fantasies 2)Kids for cash 3)Get a life 4)No remorse 5)Robotized 6)Thanks for your hostility 7)Criminalisation of strange 8)Is it really mine? 9)Wir fahren geges nazis

AGATHOCLES "Theatric symbolisation of life" Cd

(Cyber Music)
Release date: 1991

Review:
This CD is a kind of compilation of alot of Agathocles releases (mostly EPs) from 88 to 91. The 9 first songs are not the best Agathocles material, too slow and boring at times, in a quite uninteresting death metal style; But after listening several times, I think, as well, that these 9 are quite good sounding stuff! "Lack of personality", "Kill your idols" would be killer tracks, if Agathocles had played them in their noisy grind old way! ...and about old noisy grind, the 7 following songs on the cd come from the split ep with Riek Boois, and you can hear grindcore classics such "Mutilated regurgitator", "The accident", "Forced pollution"... in their best version(in my mind). The sound is noisy & creepy: this home made style is what I really crave for! then, there are other recordings, a mess of studio and live, coming from diverse split eps... cool material. Not my favorite Agathocles cd for sure! but some grindcore classics here! To remember when Agathocles was playing with great distorted noise sound! good old times!

Tracks:
1)Burning water(intro)/Lack of personnality 2)Four walls 3)Theatric symbolisation of life 4)Like an ivy(poem)/Suffocation 5)Kill your idols 6)The truth begins when man stops to think 7)Train(poem)/The tree 8)What a nerve 9)Alternative-another trend 10)Mutilated regurgitator 11)The accident 12)Threshold to senility 13)Forced pollution 14)Consuming endoderme pus 15)Playing with lifes 16)Splattered brains 17)Well of hapiness 18)Judged by appearence 19)Solitary minded 20)Trust?Not me 21)Lay off me 22)Threshold to senility 23)Mutilated regurgitator 24)Gorgonized dorks 25)Lay off me 26)Consuming endoderme pus 27)Let it be for what it is 28)Theatric symbolisaion of life 29)The tree

AGATHOCLES "Black clouds determinate" Cd

(Cyber Music)
Release date: 1993

Review:
69 minutes of grind/mince core right in your face!!!!! with 16 studio tracks and 14 tracks as bonus from live gigs and some of their eps. Well, the 16 first are real cult stuff in grindcore genre! Just listen to "Sentimental hypocrisy" and you'll maybe understand what grind really is!(sounds familiar?!). Great socially aware lyrics against meat eaters, fascism, capitalist music(hardcore)... But even if you don't like their preaching, their grind is severely kicking ass! Grunt-roars + hysteric screams with a nice touch of gurgling vocal effects. A fistful of steel! Your brain is smashed in in a few seconds! Drums are crushing eardrums, thrashy guitars are seriously attacking cerebellum and bass is making alot of distorted noise, fucking up your stereo without much troubles by the same way! They also added some hardcore type of vocals, in songs like "Black clouds determinate" & "Europe's fairy tale"(where a reggae guitar is included!!!). But these are still small parts compared to what they"ll do in the future, and everything stays totally killer! No comments on the live tracks; typical Agathocles live recordings: good sound, but a bit boring. Anyway It's a classic of grindcore!!! so, you must get it now!

Tracks: 1)Bastard breed(intro)/Scorn of humanity 2)Sentimental hypocrisy 3)Megalomanic stupidity 4)Hangman's dance 5)Black clouds determinate 6)Ubermensch hilarity 7)Triple murder flesh 8)Europe's fairytale 9)Musicianship-musicianshit 10)Confront your image 11)Mister hardcore syndrome 12)For white lies 13)Technological boom-technological doom 14)Destroy to create 15)Bigheaded bastards 16)Hatebirth 17)Siegshit 18)Well of hapiness 19)Birds(poem)/Agarchy 20)Theatric symbolisation of life 21)Bigheaded bastards 22)Lack of personality 23)Squeeze Anton 24)What man creates 25)Distrust and abuse 26)Teachers 27)Hideous headchopping 28)Mutilated regurgitator 29)Get off your ass 30)Hatebirth

AGATHOCLES "LPs: 1989-1991" Cd

(Morbid records)
Release date: 1995

Review:
Re-release on cd of their 2 first LPs, the split with Lunatic Invasion and "Suppose it was you"... Essential pieces of grind noise!!! I can confess that the early Agathocles recordings are my favorites. This cd contains all their early hits(their early hits are all-time hits!) with this special "rehearsal" sounding really not "clean" at all and great! The good old times of real grindcore! The second part has alot of live tracks, and contrary to "Razor sharp dagger" & "Black clouds determinate" live bonus tracks, this live material is not boring, without a big cheezy sound, just what grind needz: detuned guitars, blasting drums and simply grunt-roared or screamed vocals: what do you want more? Judge by the track listing, there are only great tracks! "Fog", "The accident" or "Big one": cult! cult! cult! Just one bad thing: no fucking lyrics sheet!!! This sucks! Well note too that it's released by Morbid Records, as a low price cd... so there's no cd box but a cool cheap price to pay.

Tracks: 1)Big one 2)Teachers 3)Christianity means tyranny 4)Squeeze Anton 5)Introtyl 6)Fog 7)Majesty of fools 8)Lay off me 9)Purified by death 10)Deceased 11)Use the mincer 12)Fake friend 13)Gordinized dorks 14)Four walls 15)Christianity means tyranny 16)Like an ivy(poem)/Agarchy 17)Sentimental hypocrisy 18)Majesty of fools 19)Fog 20)Teachers 21)The accident 22)Deceaced 23)Forced pollution 24)Use the mincer

AGATHOCLES "Thanks for your hostility" Cd

(Morbid records)
Release date: 1997

The title leapt at me when I first heard about it! I think that "Thanks for your hostility" is the best Agathocles record title ever. But then, I've been a little disappointed when I listened to the musical content itself; probably by the inadequat sound production. It's very clear and actually powerful, but guitars sound a little weak and find a way a little bit more technical than before, drums also have a slightly snare, feeble sound... vocals are great though, well, at least on the grindcore songs, because there's a very high percentage of crusty/hardcore influences on songs like "Until it bleeds", "Hatred is the cure", "Cheers humanity cheers", "No use... hatred" & many more! But all in all I truly enjoy their crust side there! Then, maybe the sound is too clear to play crust here too... But anyway, some riffs reminded me good old crust bands like Mob 47 and alikes... So, it's nice! And yes! Agathocles is always Agathocles and their mincing feeling is always alive and well; There are many grindcore tracks, with fast drumming, growls, tortured screams and an abundant use of splattery vocal effects! The great songs are "Criminalisation of strange behaviour", "Strangulation", "Life control", "Be your own god", "He cared" & more.... The lyrics are always socially aware and always more sarcastic... The cover artwork is not a masterpiece. Well, this is although a 26 tracks LP of really intense musical aggression! It will probably please to those more into hardcore & crust, but it has a big portion of great grind! So recquires the listening of grind freaks too. Obviously a must-have for Agathocles completists.

Tracks:
1)Criminalisation of strange behaviour 2)Life control 3)Until it bleeds 4)End of the line 5)Doctor wished me 6)Knock back 7)Thanks for your hostility 8)Hatred is the cure 9)Be your own god 10)Distraction 11)Remember 12)Cheers mankind cheers 13)Strangulation 14)Foul 15)No use ... hatred 16)My reason 17)No one's right 18)Sheer neglect 19)Is there a place? 20)Go fucking nihilist 21)Progress or stupidity? 22)Try! 23)He cared 24)Mankind's not kind 25)Reduced to an object 26)Ego-generosity 27........................
