CREATED TO KILL: DROWNING/BRODEQUIN/ABORTED/MISERY INDEX Split Cd

(Bones Brigade)
Release date:
2002

Review: Great Split, 4 really brilliant brutal death metal bands, great sound production in every case, very cool looking cover and everything...
Drowning: 2 songs, really well-crafted brutal death metal goodness, tight and sharp, brutal and quite powerful. Everything from the solid guitar work to the tight drumming is perfect. Well-conceived, catchy death metal.
Brodequin: 3 songs including 2 covers of Dead Infection, Last Days of Humanity, interesting choice! Brodequin isn't goregrind though, they're more of a creepy, very brutal death metal band, in Cannibal Corpse "Tomb of the Mutilated" vein, like I said on my "Festival of Death" review. Deep, guttural growls, obscure, totally heavy riffs and blazing drums. If you're a fan of Cannibal Corpse 91/92 era you'll love this. The covers are real good and I'll give "Festival of Death" another spin just because of em.
Aborted: Extremely powerful brutal death metal from Belgium. Their stuff keeps getting tighter, and neat. If you're a fan of that band, you need these 2 songs. There is one original song with something of a Dying Fetus influence, intricate song structure and technical but still definitely brutal guitar work. Growls and backing higher pitched screams. Overall, your run-of-the-hill high quality brutal death metal, with sharp and crushing sound and perfect musicianship. Their Napalm Death "Suffer the Children" is really flawless and kick-ass.
Misery Index: The last 2 tracks are by Misery Index. That's a band formed by ex-Dying Fetus members and surprise! It sounds like... Dying Fetus! Perhaps with a tiny bit of late Napalm Death as well. It's flawless grinding brutal death metal, with perfect technicality and musicianship, well-rounded intense song structures, no time whatsoever to catch your breath. It's blazing fast, catchy and mighty powerful... And well, I guess you must know if you're a sucker for that kind of things... The cream of brutal death on a 4 way split cd, released on Bones Brigade...

ABORTED/CHRIST DENIED Split Cd

(Soul Reaper Records)
Release date: 2000

Aborted Review: Now this is good stuff. Typical but mind-blowing offensive death-grind. Resuming just where "Purity of perversion" left off. Well-performed vocals, coming into the form of plaguing lead thick growls à la Deranged; and less traditional backing piercing screams. For the rest, you get some really powerful and heavy guitar pounding textures entwined inside complex, twisted song structures dragged by a tight drumming, combining fast blasts and slightly more groovy parts. huh?! And a bunch of bumping rythmic changes. They also use some spoken bits of a Joseph Kellinger (serial killer) interview (the same segments used for Impetigo "Faceless" first intro) mixed inside "Sea of cartilage" song structure itself, and it works pretty well. Everything is made in total respect of brutal death metal standards. Suffocation era "Effigy of the forgotten" influence is especially coming to my mind. 3 really wonderful songs, well-performed and well-recorded. I prophecy that the upcoming long length album is gonna be a huge hit... Official Website: www.goremageddon.com/

Christ Denied Review: Spanish project band with Dave Rotten (Avulsed). Really sharp, tight and clean. With stirring blasting parts, fleshripping and clear guitar riffs... Plus sickeningly low-pitched deep vocals in the usual Avulsed way. I don't know if it's me, but it also reminds me Suffocation big time. Anyway this split cd is awesome, it's a DEFINITE MUST-HAVE for all brutal death metal guys. Those two bands are 2 big quality bands with super powerful sound production. The cover art by Bruno Kan is excellent, but the rest is a less interesting messy patchwork with an autopsy picture, photographs of those guys believing making so called art butchering bovine carcasses (the same guys as on Utopie "Instinct for existence" cover picture I think), and a drawing of the Box from Hellraiser coming across it all... the booklet is although quality printed full-colours.

Aborted Tracks:
1)Better impaled than crucified 2)Castration in the name of god 6)The uncreation (Pyrexia cover version)
Christ Denied Tracks:
1)Eructations of carnal artistry 2)Sea of cartilage 3)Symposium of semiology

ABORTED "Purity of perversion" Cd

(Uxicon Records, UX 010 CD)
Release date: 1999
Total running time: 31:39

Review: Just the time of a short autopsy procedure introduction, for Aborted to start manifesting first signs of strenuous, intense visceral violence. Sort of aggressive, brutal grind attack in the shape of new generation death metal music style; with 2 different types of vocals, both really extreme: one deep, growling and throaty and another one more screamy, twisted and mid-high pitched (In Jeff Walker's spirit). All the songs are composed with cleverness and splattery inspiration, helped by a great, heavy sound production, still keeping a catchy, thrashy raw vibe... All the ways, giving a great impression of fullness and strength. Guitars are skilfully performed, fast, never idle, and riching in noteworthy (melodic) catchy riffs. Drums are really tight and well-played too, diversified, worked, with stirring blasts and great rolling breaks... Aborted compositions are not continual, and the plentiful rythmic changes truly value the exalting structures of the songs together with the exceptional, tremendous guitar travail. "The purity of perversion" is incredibly prodigious and authentic in matter of churning virulence... blazing with a great natural feeling, so you can forget that the musicians play their instruments and really enjoy the art! The short interludes between songs may have set a horrific mood, but even if they are not bothering, they sometimes sound a little useless or unfitting... Anyway these are good choices!!! From horror/gore masterpieces like "Bad Taste", "Day of the dead", "Evil Dead 3" and a wonderful, long final outro with the ultimate zombie mangling, blood splashing lawnmower massacre scene from "Braindead(aka Dead Alive)": Party's over... The cover is gory, but pretty unartistic I think. Anyway this isn't the most important! Here we have a good death-grind album, so you should check it out! Aborted is from Belgium, and this album is released by a belgium label too, Uxicon Records(Burt AxG label!)...
