KONTORTION S/T full length 7"ep
(Deadalive Records)
Release date: 1999
Review: This is a very professional release with nice layout and good sound production. This band from United States of America is playing a really heavy kind of grind, with some hardcore touches. Kontortion's compositions are rich, and each song bring something different. Guitar riffs are heavy and catchy, but not limited to grindy schemes... There are doom-death-thrash-metal influenced parts, but always played with a down tuned grindy tone. The skeleton of songs is based on energic, pounding grind parts, with tight, catchy drums reinforced by a strong bass. Rythms range from phrenitic grind blasts, to midtempos or slow doomy stuffs; you easily feel they worked alot on more diversity possible. The two main types of vocals are low grunts and high pitched screams, often answering to each other, or even synchronized and damn powerful. There are also a few crusty hardcore backing vox here and there... huh! Sorry for this long description! Finally, I would say they are between bands like Rot(Brazil), Nasum(Sweden) & Benumb(USA). But their style is more staid and heavy... Their lyrics are very personal too, and mainly about existential topics... If you look for a quality vinyl piece, tight dark grind/hardcore, try to get ahold of this! From DEAD ALIVE RECORDS...

KRYPTOSEXUAL CANCROID/DEVIANT VIRAL SOURCE
(Mutationed Records)
Release date: 1999
Kryptosexual Cancroid "Policia Cavron" Review: Good to hear a grind band from Italy! This isn't a very common thing. I think ultraviolence and harshness are the best words to describe Kryptosexual Cancroid... Their side of the EP only contains energic and fast compositions; with insane, hateful, screamy vocals, thrashy fast guitars, and, a computerized, cybernetic sound assured by original drum programming. A honestly good release, with 6 frenzied tracks, and a quite good sound. Amateurs of truly extreme sensations & noisy cyber grind should dig it!
Tracks: 1)Shitty bigot 2)Horrible 3)Zen and the art of rolling a joint up (Jesus Christ Super Skunk) 4)The abolition of work 5)Policia cavron (gora ETA) 6)Cock! Shit! Methane!

Deviant Viral Source Review: Some intense sounds from Slovakia now! I saw it described as gore-grind, but well it's half true, song titles and artwork are not about gore at all (you can judge by yourself.). But musically, all the songs are short, supported by fast blast beating & various energic rythms (probably a drum machine but I'm not 100 % sure...), some light thrashy guitars and best of all, really adequat splattery, gurgling vocals, more squeaky than growling though... a little reminiscent of Catasexual Urge Motivation... All the way, Deviant Viral Source is a really pleasant, enjoyable band; Sickly intense and grindy. Small but honest, raw and intense. Not a revolution, but still a recommended grindgrindgrind split! (It's only 3USD ppd worldwide! & trade is possible too! check contact below!)
Tracks: 1)Hate breeds violence 2)Face it 3)Ketchup or blood 4)Idiots buy me 5)Third world revenge 6)As conformity dies
