SPLATTERED SPLITTER "Demo 1988" 7" Ep

(No Fucking Labels - NFL#38)
Release date: 2011

Review: This raw and delirious noisecore screeching thrash attack feels pretty refreshing if you've been inflicting yourself with too much slick overproduced "grindcore". Dirty filthy sound is the rule here, with a guitar tone so harshly overdriven it feels like it's piercing through your eardrums like a power drill. You should be able to discern some semblance of old school grind song contructs in there though, and even a few somewhat recognizable riffs... Sides are explicitly dubbed "Death" & "Punk", so you should have fun trying to decide which side is which (since this record has no fucking labels!). Anyhow the whole thing gives me a definite Fear of God vibe. I reckon the name Splattered Splitter is on account of the band hating the polished sound of bands such as Splitter, Nasum and all... And the only way to explain the "Demo 1988" title is that the Splattered Splitter guys travelled back in time in order to assassinate the Splitter band members as infants but forgot their mission objective after smoking too much weed and then recorded this Demo 1988 instead (they clearly botched their mission since Splitter still exists!)! Amidst the extreme noise a few quick dialogue-free horror movie samples also add a touch of weirdness, I picked up on Michele Soavi's The Church soundtrack in there. I'm digging the artwork too and there's a nice A3 poster of it included in there! This material was previously released on a limited 10" with Sloth which I'm not cool enough to own but I'm glad to have this Ep! Recommended to freaks into total grind/noisecore extremity like A.S.H.I.A.I.P. if this crazy 7" EP.
Tracks: Side Death: 1)Satanic Slaughter 2)Hell Hunts for Muslims 3)Zombie Swamp Massacre
Side Punk: 4)The Nuclear Bombing of Israel 5)Destruction of the Metal Punx Keep on Bombing

AxSxH/CROWD SURFERS MUST DIE Split 7" Ep

(No Fucking Labels - NFL#31)
Release date: 2009

AxSxH Review: Been listening to alot of these dutch fastcore bands to fill up this stupid review section and among of all of them I'm pretty sure AxSxH is my favorite of the bunch... Rough punkish hardcore with some effortlessly fast blistering grind outbursts and a really loose, free-wheeling vibe that I absolutely love. Biggest asset is a bouncy bass sound put forward, and awesomely biting and energetic guitar riffing, drummer knows what he's doing too and delivers a real ass-whooping performance. The really spunky barking and screaming vocals are a real strength too, nothing annoyingly forced sounding, just a nice and natural raging shouting match! Songs are filled with quite alot of rhythmic changes with actual progression to them and not just breakdown after breakdown every few seconds or something. This band also feels really good-humored which makes their music that much more smashing to me, I was in sucky mood before I put this on and this band's raw energy definitely cheered me up! The band also uses a bunch of movie samples, all nice picks and effectively humorous, there's a Frankenhooker sample in there I think!

CSMD Review: The warm and fuzzy fun fest continues with Crowd Surfers Must Die! Opening in a pure rock n' roll riffing style then devolving into blistering noisecore chaos from outerspace, with oversaturated guitar sound, spooky feedback, apoplectic drum blasts, eerie sci-fi spacecraft sounds and monstrous growls & shrieks echoing with severe intergalactic reverb! This stuff challenges Side A "Disgrace to the Corpse of Sid" Sore Throat! Noisecore doesn't get any better than that, or more absurd at least,.. Ep is capped with an awesome cover from Batman Tv Show theme! (I also really liked their James Bond theme cover from the downloable Sore Throat, Nausea and Headache Compilation #1) Of course the whole imagery and bizarre sci fi movie influences are all pretty awesome... By the way everyone should check out Noiseape's Forgotten NOISE & MOVIE treasures, these are some of the coolest reviews on the world wide web! This Split Ep is like a 3rd repress but it comes on red vinyl (my favorite shade of vinyl!)

CROWD SURFERS MUST DIE/SPOELSTRA Split 7" Ep

(No Fucking Labels - NFL#27)
Release date: 2010

CSMD Review:
Holland's weirdest band takes a stab at a Corrupted style sludge song on this one! Things crawl at a deadly slow pace, at least for a start, with an agonizing doom riff crushing along with Spacecommander tinkering with his theremin thing in the background. After droning on for a little while the music actually ends up shifting gears and taking off in mid-play at a more rocking pace then savagely finishes with an sudden outburst of apocalyptic noisecore climax! Speaking of climax these records come with very large spindle holes I had a hard time recovering my insert to put it in (for smoother play!) In terms of noisecore I wouldn't say CSMD has a complete disregard for sound as the band seems to strain to achieve this dark and dank, eerie vibe completely unique to them! This one is a nice diversion from their usual style.
CSMD Tracks: 1)The Invasion 2)They Will Come to Beat the Shit Out of Monkind 3)Noize Punx Exploit

Spoelstra Review: I take back CSMD being Holland's weirdest band. This side is even more out there and hard to describe musically... It starts as some kind of trippy old school 80's video game style electronic music that grows progressively more fucked up as it goes on with layers upon layers of hallucinogenic melodies finally collapsing into pure distorted noise... At that point pops in a Tinkle Tonk music box style sound! Then more Korg-type distorted music takes it away in a nice fade-out... This one is guaranteed to mess with your brain! It also took me a while to figure out how to read the liner notes and realize it was all a joke... Props to No Fucking Labels for putting out records that truly seems to come from another planet!

BLOOD I BLEED "Gods Out of Monsters" Cd

(Self-Made God Records-SMG051)
Release date: 2009
Running time: 16:49

Review: This band born on the ashes of My Mind's Mine plays effective, brutal uncompromising grind/fastcore... At times DropDead's intensity comes to mind, and other times there's signs of Anal Cunt nihilistic virulent sloppiness (musically I mean)... I guess Blood I Bleed somewhere in the middle. Blistering, grinding whirlwind and vocal-chord destroying shrieking insanity is delivered in spades. Guitar riffing is fast, thrashing, cutting and raw, drumming is pretty chaotic and almost constantly blasting. The album is over in a brisk 16 minutes with mostly 40 seconds or less tracks. It has a tendency towards the repetitious and monochord at times, especially in vocal department, slight variation could have made this more digestible. But the radical, stubborn relentlessness is what makes this band so admirable! Just listening to this record feels positively exhausting so I imagine the band members must sweat alot blood over performing this music. There's a couple of Repulsion-style bullshit crazy guitar solos thrown in here and there providing flashes of light entertainment though. I haven't read lyrics so serious-minded and political in a while so it almost feels like a novel thing! Blood I Bleed is definitely with the true essence of grindcore here!

DEVOURED FLESH REGURGITATION "Bones, Flesh N' Party Snacks" Cd

Release date: 2007
Running time: 29:11

Review:
I thought I should round up this Netherlands special with at least some goregrind. This one was a relatively short-lived band that's pretty underrated it seems. Devoured Flesh Regurgitation definitely played goregrind the way it's supposed to be, with a Regurgitate sickening grind style as the most obvious influence and also mixed with some old Malignant Tumour riffing magic & Dead Infection groove. Sound production is unfortunately a bit thin but still quite clear and better than average for the genre, it reminds me of some of early Agathocles 90's recordings, guitars are perhaps a bit too fuzzed out but blasting drums come across fine... While D.F.R. isn't the most amazing sounding or tightest band ever, a lot of effort was clearly put into the song-writing, with some intricate thrashing riffs and actually decent song structures, dynamic rhythmic changes, catchy hooks and a killer focus on blasting parts. Vocals are pretty killer too with tons of LDoH style pitch-shifted gurgling gore but also mincecore-style shouting/growling which are perhaps the best & most distinctive part of this band! Geert who did the vocals on there also used to have a solo project called Faeces Eruption and went on to form another more pc grindcore band Shapes of Misery. It's weird to realize that I interviewed Geert in 2006 (http://www.grindgore.net/interview-faeceseruption.htm) but I had completely forgot about Devoured Flesh Regurgitation even though I clearly asked questions about it back then, haha! Anyway I only came around to check this album out long after this band split up so it's always annoying to discover cool bands long after the fact. It seems like Regurgitate clones are a rare breed and usually short-lived compared to all the Gut/CBT clones out there... If you dig underrated goregrind bands like Embryonic Cryptopathia or The Decapitated Midgets this one might appeal to you too.

Tracks: 1)Tussen Kunst En Kits (0:25) 2)Chili Cunt Carnival 1:01) 3)Rancid Aftertaste (1:55) 4)Gurgling Vomit Splatter (1:08) 5)Splattered Sludge (1:03) 6)Let's Eat Vomit (1:26) 7)Do The Goregrind (0:58) 8)Gory Raptured Remains (0:55) 9)Toilet Flush (1:20) 10)Bizarre Slayings (1:14) 11)Soaked In Vomit (1:13) 12)Gruesome Ulceration (1:02) 13)Feasting On Bodybits (0:35) 14)Baked Bowel Buffet (0:44) 15)XXL (1:43) 16)Disgorgement Of Putrid Bile (0:54) 17)Splitter (1:03) 18)Total Dismemberment (RGTE) (1:02) 19)Bones,Flesh 'N Partysnacks (1:31) 20)Ghoul Squad (0:37) 21)Zombie Attack (1:02) 22)Beware (0:49) 23)Rat Damen (1:19) 24)Death Breath (1:06) 25)We Are Devoured Flesh Regurgitation (1:30) 26)Obscene Rancid And Gore (1:36)

DEAD NEANDERTHALS "The Saw" Ep & self titled Full Length (www.grindcorekaraoke.com)

Release date: 2010

Review: Dead Neanderthals is playing a kind of whacked out free-jazz gone grind, it's a two-piece drum & sax formation with no vocals or other artifices... Coincidentally I was just watching Lost Highway again before sitting down to write this review, which put me in the right state of mind... Schizo saxophone-playing Bill Pullman could easily be a member of this band!
As a John Zorn fan I'm really appreciating this. Most grindcore bands have tried to emulate Napalm Death for years and years but to me Naked City's Torture Garden has always been up there with "From Enslavement to Obliteration" among grind milestones an example very few bands has seemed to follow, only Le Scrawl comes to mind as another avant garde kind of grind band. Dead Neanderthals is maybe sounding closer to Painkiller (another one of Zorn's project with Mick Harris on the drums) though on account of the lack of vocal and guitar anchors. Personally I wouldn't even describe Dead Neanderthals (or Painkiller) as grindcore, perhaps noisecore would be more fitting. But I guess the drumming in Dead Neanderthals has real focus and rhythm to it and song structures actually stay pretty streamlined overall. All the songs are short and sweet too.
I wouldn't say blastbeats are the primary focus on there either but they are a definitey a part of the proceedings. Anyway this stuff definitely comes across as bluntly percussive and the saxophone section is sounding extremely abrasive and explosive. Pretty insane sounding overall, I still feel like it has the potential to get even more intense. The simple sax/drum mix can seem a little bare at times, personally I would be tempted to add vocals, guitars or a bass but I guess it would take away from Dead Neanderthals unique sound.
There seems to be two layers of saxophone tracks in there though, with one serving as a bass line and the other bursting into wild leads... Actually I'm not sure how that all works out in live situation?!
Anyway, the initial release "The Saw" only contains 3 tracks... Then the first "full length" lasts only 11 minutes. I think there is another full length release available and the band is working on a third one.
www.grindcorekaraoke.com has so much stuff currently available for download, it's difficult to just pick one among the bulk, so hopefully this review can be uselful for some to get an idea of the band... I'm definitely looking forward to what will be coming next. My favorite track on there is probably Cannibal Ambush solely for the use of the opening scream from City of the Living Dead (being a Fulciphile is an affliction impossible to cure) and a sax riff that would seem the perfect soundtrack to an early John Waters movie starring Divine! I also really dig the "Metal Totem" remix song which adds some catchy repetitiveness to the band's crazy music.

JESUS CRÖST "010" Cd

(Bones Brigade - BB048)
Release date: 2010
Running time: 14:56

Review: Extreme fastcore riddled with a myriad of disruptive breaks, frenzied guitar riffs and insanely fast machinegun blasts... This dynamic duo is without question one of Holland's tightest and fastest bands... I'm feeling an early Napalm Death grindcore vibe at the core which is what keeps me hooked despite not being the biggest fan of their immoderate use of stop-and-go techniques (which seems all the rage these days)... The band is going pretty insane with the contant changes in rhythmic direction, they borrow from a bunch of different music styles, some punk stuff and even some more death metal sounding riffs, all expertly executed but structurally scrambled in a disjointed manner. Vocals are primarly gnarly natural shrieks with a switching of register on a couple of songs with some pitch-shifted gurglers and some pig-squealing growls. I'm more into the pitch-shifted ones personally which almost makes the band sound like an early Retaliation style goregrind re-incarnation! Production is sounding pretty fucking huge. Since I'm reviewing them back to back, I can say this release has a slightly more tangible guitar tone than the previous one "tOt", it's slightly less heavy but crunchier-sounding and more decipherable on the whole. Overall a winner for freaks of fastcore with a fat sound like Lycanthrophy...
Tracks: 1)Taurin 400 (0:35) 2)Zeitgeist (0:35) 3)Verbanned (0:09) 4)Milevskyi (1:05) 5)Krank (1:11) 6)Vierakette (0:34) 7)Titanic (0:14) 8)Sein (0:38) 9)Crust Ist Tot (0:37) 10)Ekelhaft (0:18) 11)Bombenalarm (1:13) 12)All/Ein (0:45) 13)Demonkrankheit (1:47) 14)Geheimfavorit (0:32) 15)Kein Schlaf (0:30) 16)Der Schnock (1:21) 17)Glanzparade (0:37) 18)Cum S.U.R. JESUS CRÖST "tOt" Cd

(Bones Brigade - BB043)
Release date: 2009
Running time: 28:30

Review: I must admit alot of these fastcore bands kind of sound alike to me, but this is undeniably extremely effective shit. Purely ultra short tracks, direct and to the point. Essentially this is stuff designed blow you away with as many breakdowns as possible and a hugely heavy and crushing sound. Sound production is totally Nasum-ified in this aspect. This is another bands abusing breaks, this stuff is driving me slightly mental. This album is actually 15 minutes worth of studio material with a 13 minutes live set recording. I'm normally not into live recordings in terms of grind, but this one (captured during Obscene Extreme 2008) is pretty interesting despite the heavily distorted sound, especially because of the sick use of pitch-shifted vocals! This band sounds like a really killer goregrind band on that recording!
Tracks: 1)verblutung (0:31) 2)familienopfer (0:44) 3)rapsol (0:39) 4)ungeheuer (0:53) 5)giftmord (0:10) 6)forltertod (0:47) 7)torentfernung (0:33) 8)fickpisse (0:46) 9)kackstift (1:05) 10)glanzklit (0:44) 11)cocoloco (0:33) 12)wurfloch (0:22) 13)trauerbinde (0:33) 14)parasit (1:34) 15)gonorrhoea (0:23) 16)tsarbomba (0:24) 17)frostkeller (0:31) 18)laufpensum (0:48) 19)steinigungssyndrom (0:23) 20)battiston (0:27) 21)solve the conflict (0:10) 22)abtreibung (1:26) 23)eiterwunde (0:30)

F.U.B.A.R./SYLVESTER STALINE Split Cd

(Bones Brigade - BB044)
Release date: 2010
Running time: :

F.U.B.A.R. Review: This one is a staple of dutch grindcore, I guess they're actually sounding a lot like fastcore/thrashcore kind of junk, tons of blasting speed and some brutal d-beats. The punkish guitar riffing is reminding of early S.O.B. alot, just high intensity, no empty room with even transitions between songs filled with feedback noise. Sound production is fitting, perfect raw guitar tone and really killer basslines as well, the tense atmosphere almost reminds me of Napalm Death's Peel Session recordings. Vocals are some of these really shrill throat-splitting shrieking, really whacked out and aggressive shit. A pleasant earache.
Tracks: F.U.B.A.R.: 1)Cold Moment Of Terror (0:52) 2)Assimilated (0:27) 3)Crawling (0:35) 4)Prejudice Bastards (0:50) 5)Infected (1:43) 6)Not Even You (1:19) 7)Sanity Is A Ghost (0:31) 8)No Direction (0:42) 9)We Are Running Out Of Ignorance (1:16) 10)Complete Silence (0:46) 11)Start Digging Graves For The Masses (0:44) 12)Gonna Give Sylvester Stalin Drinking Lessons With The Royalties Generated By This Song (0:53)

SYLVESTER STALINE Review: I almost didn't notice the cd switched to this french band, these two bands guitar tone and riffing style being so highly similar. Shit's also super fucking fast and blasting, maybe S.S. mixes things up with more slower, moderate swinging breaks from time to time and jaunty bass lines... And vocals are also feeling slightly more varied on this one, alot of double or triple vocal attacks, high shrieks, hardcore-type shouting and lower gruff growling. Lyrics on there revolve around smoking weed and feels like a cynical running joke. Worthy split release overall.
Tracks: Sylvester Staline: 13)Smoke Weed (1:07) 14)Reggae Music (0:45) 15)I Don't Pay To Fuck (0:43) 16)Global Warming (0:20) 17)La Bagarre (0:48) 18)Through The Eyes Of Weed (1:37) 19)Smoking Kills (0:56) 20)I Don't Want (1:58) 21)Problems In Life (0:45) 22)Punk Bitch (0:58) 23)Fuck You (1:21) 24)Legalize It (1:23) 25)Life (2:01) 26)Get Revolutionnnary (0:54) 27)Pissed Off (2:19) 28)Stoner Punk Grind (1:50) 29)F.U.B.A.R (1:26)
